Why goes The NY Times ombudsman Byron Calame think it's ok to reveal the SWIFT program because "hundreds of people knew about this" but it's not ok to reveal Valerie Plume even though hundreds of people knew about her?

Someone up above asked: "My question is wht hasn’t the Bush Administration not pull ed press credentials from every NYT-associated reporter?"

This is an interesting question. If AMerica's security was REALLY hurt by the NYT disclosure would not this be an appropriate response?

How about a government wide edict that no employee of the US Government shall speak with a reporter from the NYT?

I really don't understand. They were asked, told, by the commander in chief of this country and others, not to publish the secrets. They published them.

They should be taken down. NOW. Sort out the legalities later. They are jeopardizing troops, our country, and our lives. In this war, media is just as powerful as bullets and bombs.

Our congress declared war on Terrorism, and it is all comming from radical Islam. As GWB said, "you are either for us or against us". They are clearly against this country, but wolves trying to disguise themselves as constitutional-rights-conscious sheep. If we fail to defend this nation agains the onslaughts from Islam, we won't <em>have</em> a constitution to define the rights, nor the country to defend them.

The democrats are holding the winning of the political war above the good of the country, and now the republicans and all elected officials who don't prosecute these people are doing the same by letting these traitors get away with it.

Now, people!! shut the damage off at its source, then ask questions later. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, but someone has to have the guts to do what is right.

</b>The bottom line is that the <em>Times</em> - both New York and Los Angeles - committed treason. They claim that they have a First Amendment right to publish, and they do, just as I have a First Amendment right to shout <em>"Fire!</em> in a crowded theatre. However, were I to do so, I could - and should - be prosecuted for "incitement to riot," just as the newspapers could - and should - be prosecuted for treason.

But it is not enough to go after just the reporters, editors and leakers. The publication of this story (and others, equally treasonous) could have been stopped by any number of people. The legal department could have pointed out the papers' vulnerability to prosecution. Junior editors could have raised objections. Even a pressman could have refused to start the presses.

The problem is that these papers have an institutional culture of invincibility and infallibility. They honestly believe that they are better than the hoi polloi, smarter and better informed than our elected leaders, and that they are above trifling little things like law, morality, loyalty and patriotism.

There is only one way to correct this. Yes, the leaders, reporters and editors need to be prosecuted, as should the owners/publishers of the two papers. In addition, both papers must be dismantled; the personnel dispersed, the equipment sold off, the buildings converted to other use. This is the only way to eliminate the "we are better than you" culture at these institutions - by a complete weeding out of every last vestige of this corporate arrogance.

It could be argued that such drastic measures would punish the innocent as well as the guilty. I would respond that none of the employees of these to papers are forced to work there. Their association is voluntary, thus they are equally guilty - even if only through inaction - and thus bear an equal share of the guilt in their employers' misdeeds.

In any case, both papers have destroyed any credibility thay they might once have had. Neither can be trusted, and neither should be given any credence in the future.

These people are committing treason, not by a direct desire to aid Bin Laden, but by thier blind hate of GWB and repubs, which takes higher priority than thier desire for the good of the country. This too, no matter what the intent, is treason and we must prosecute it.

As much as I and many other Americans despised Clinton, we still followed the commander in Chief and respected the office. Even though courts and democratic meanss were used to highlight his crimes and unethical behavior, we still repsected the office.

If it were Clinton fighting Iraq, the NYTs people and the leakers who fed them would be 100% behind him.

We respect the right to dissent and disagree, but people, we have to respect the unity and good of the country more.

We would get 100 times more return on investment in the war on terror by shutting down the traitors/terrorists within (in the media, in congress, in the school and university educational system) than by all the money spent on wiretapping ad eavesdropping.

Judge Judy likes to say to divorced couples who appear before her "Love your children more than you hate each other." It's too bad liberals cannot love their country more than they hate the President.

It is true Republicans and Conservatives did not like President Bill Clinton, but it stopped at the border. There was even talk months ago about the idea of Bill Clinton replacing Kofi Annan as Secretary General of the UN. Republicans were not having a conniption fit over it. Some even liked the idea. Heck, Republicans even liked Clinton working with Bush Sr traveling the world for charity.

[...] One thing I note is that with all this "national security" bullshit the right-wing is hyperventilating over with the SWIFT story, where is the condemnation of Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)? While watching a clip Crooks & Liars posted a video of comedian Lewis Black talking about Santorum’s outlandish weapons of mass destruction claims on the Daily Show. One of the clips from Fox’s Hannity & Colmes shows Rick saying "I’ll show you the classified document right here" and holds up the classified document up to the camera. Strange, I do not hear any cries over that one. And because supposedly no sin is greater than another, should not Rick Santorum also be facing the same criticisms and calls for execution as a traitor that the New York Times has faced? Where’s Michelle Malkin to call him a blabbermouth or create a little propaganda piece like yesterday’s "Vent"? Where is the congressional resolution to condemn him? Where is E.D. Hill to suggest he be arrested or kill for treason? Oh wait, I forgot he was a right-winger too and therefore granted immunity. [...]

<strong>The Times is Taking off the Gloves...</strong>

I suppose it’s part of ‘the people’s right to know’. Surely it wouldn’t be a ‘payback’ for the trouble the Times got from the public for publishing classified documents about the war and TROOP MOVEMENTS. [yes I’m being sarcastic]

Protesting the NY Times and the LA Times is a good first step, I agree.

However, I must confess, watching this video just reinforces my desire to get front row seats at the district court's sentencing of Lichtblau, Rissen, Keller, and Sulzberger to hang by their necks until dead, for treason.

These four plus the leakers themselves MUST be prosecuted as an object lesson to the rest of the media and any potential disloyal government employees that deliberately exposing US war-fighting secrets during this time of war WILL have extreme consequences.

Yes, I know that some people think that these 4 individuals must not be charged, but I disagree. The common reasons for not arresting and trying Messers Lichtblau, Rissen, Keller, and Sulzberger (or MS Priest of the WashPost), include...

- the First Amendment protects them from such actions (it does NOT -- all it does is prevent prior censorship of the press). Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose were convicted of treason because of their "speech", i.e., their radio broadcasts;

- that these reportes are "just doing their jobs," and that discovering what the government is up to is inclusive of the role of a free press -- as if TREASON is included in the job description of a journalist;

- that the government runs the risk of other secrets being exposed as part of what would be a legal defense strategy threat during trial to make the government back down (which would be even more proof of disloyalty);

- and the risk that one or more jury members might be inclined to acquit, resulting in a stronger and even more hostile anti-war media out for revenge.

An important principle is at stake here: Will the United States of America be "gelded" by those, who for partisan and/or ideological reasons, object to America fighting this or any future war?

Will America (all 300 million of us) be held hostage by the left against enemies that have already struck us in our capital and largest city?

Will the efforts of America to win wars be sabotaged by those who oppose an elected government -- <strong>BECAUSE</strong> they object to the results of the last election?

Will this originally small but vocal leftwing minority poison future war efforts through the use of slanted and biased reporting, outright falsehoods, and finally rank treason?

I say no.

The leftwing, including partisan democrats longing to reclaim power, does NOT have the right to sentence us <strong>all</strong> to death and destruction just because they hate George W. Bush, and want to overthrow his presidency.

They do not have the right to do so.

Bring them to trial and let the Justice Department do what it must to put them on the gallows trapdoor or in prison. The message must be that America will not tolerate subversion during a time of war.

We certainly have to keep up the heat on the NY & LA slimes. They <em>must not be allowed </em>to function in this country as an arm of the terrorists' & liberal take down America agenda.

Great Work.
