Case cracked: Bush slammed NYT bank expose because he hates Jews

posted at 6:48 pm on June 30, 2006 by Allahpundit

Or because his base hates Jews. And who could disagree, given their strident anti-Israel policy?

Seriously, wouldn’t this make him a self-loathing neoconservative?

Apparently President Bush, as titular leader of the Republican Party, has started campaigning in earnest now. His coattails are just a wee bit short this year, so he’s had to pick his opponent carefully. He has chosen to campaign against the New York Times…

[T]he name of the New York Times contains the word “New York.” Many members of the president’s base consider “New York” to be a nifty code word for “Jewish.” It is very nice for the president to be able to campaign against the Jews without (a) actually saying the word “Jew” and (b) without irritating the Israelis. A number of prominent Zionist groups think the New York Times is insufficiently anti-Palestinian, so they think the New York Times isn’t Jewish enough.

Thanks to Jim Treacher, who wonders how this squares with Bush telling Jews not to come to work at the Trade Center on 9/11. Or was that Cheney?

Update: FYI, Bill Keller is Catholic. (Or was.)

Of course the government can look at your bank account, at any bank account. What’s the point of being the government if you can’t pry?

I have been searching for a column by Ole Jon where he gets all rightously indignant about the IRS prying into peoples financial records trying to catch Rich Tax Cheaters(TM) and I just can’t seem to find one. Can that be possible? Could he really be advocating stricter rules in going after terrorists that Rich Americans(TM)?

B Moe on June 30, 2006 at 7:28 PM

*than* Rich Americans

B Moe on June 30, 2006 at 7:29 PM

Can you imagine someone pays this turd to write this crap?

Wade on June 30, 2006 at 7:31 PM

Well, if he said “Himey-Town,” then we’d have to read a column about how the President was a plagiarist. There’s just no pleasing these people….

rw on June 30, 2006 at 7:39 PM

A reading of the Chronical of Saint Francis by Jon Carroll.

No bias here of course.

Himey-Town is reserved for Jessie Jackson. It’s his word just like the… n-word… can’t say that… and get away…

Sheesh, I’m still gonna eat pork over the weekend anyway!
Luckly we live here in the greatest country in the world and can say anything we want, till I get kicked off this post. ;-) And I live in the the greatest state. No bias here, yeah right…

Classic left. It’s standard to hear that immigration is about hating Latinos, terrorism about anti-Arab paranoia, etc, but occasionally you get a beauty like this, where you blink upon reading it because you hadn’t even thought of an ethnic angle to it. Or at least, I blinked when I first heard this kind of thing, I’m used to it now.

Matthew Yglesias put it pretty clearly a while back:

“One notes that… the specific brands of success here [in a list of occupations where Jews are highly represented] correlate extremely closely to American conservatism’s most-loathed occupational categories. Lawyers, professors, intellectuals, civil servants, and the dastardly cultural elite.”

And sure, conservatives have their official reasons for opposing these groups, but the high representation of Jews among them is much more telling evidence of what’s really going on.

Yglesis was more judicious on the Chronicle’s town however:

“San Francisco is good for the Jews, and the Republican Party is bad for San Francisco. The fact that anti-SF sentiment is more likely motivated by hatred of gays and lesbians than of Jews is of little comfort, since we seem likely to get caught in the crossfire.”

Ah, much more fair.

Alex K on June 30, 2006 at 8:02 PM

Anyway, if hating newspapers means hating the newspaper’s city because Jews are highly represented there, than it’s safe to say that newspapers hate blacks and Latinos if blacks and Latinos are underrepresented on the staff… The Chronicle needs to step up its quota program if they’re going to be accusing people of racism.

However, when San Francisco officially called that Christian rally in March “fascist”, that wasn’t because liberals hate Christians, it’s simply because they oppose fascists.

Alex K on June 30, 2006 at 8:08 PM

OK, so… Bush is “targeting” the NYT because its against the “end of the world” that Christians and Jews are looking forward to… yeah, right.

Is this Jon Carroll wacko an escapee from a psych ward?

It’s the joooooooooooooooooooooooos that conservatives hate! Bah. This guy is an idiot. Only conservatives are calling for what must be done to resolve this chrap in palestine. It’s ugly as hell, but let’s get it over with. Peace can’t reign supreme with all of this palestinian hatred floating around. It would be wrong to call for genocide, but not so much to call for a standard ‘deadly smackdown’. I’m calling for that. Now.

Scr*w the Times. Let’s just throw up interference until Israel solves one part of the problem. Then it will be significantly easier to solve our half.

I’ve never supported killing people indescriminately. But in the case of terrorists, and the Palestinians who support them, it’s not even remotely indescriminant. Too much damage. Too much death, in your name, palestinian. Too much evil. Time for the palestinian terrorists to meet their maker and ‘splain theirselves to him.

I’m not trying to incite hatred, and I’m not a Jew or even a Christian. But when 40+% of Palestinians vote for a terrorist organization to lead them, isn’t it fair to purge the earth of 40% of the Palestinians? Voting for a terrorist is pretty much the same as being one.

They do nothing, produce nothing… nothing, except try to kill Israelis. They won’t even grow their own food! How long do we have to try to coax them into humanity before we realize they are not part of it? I don’t know any Israelis personally, but I can tell you hoestly that if Canada kidnapped an American, I would be up in arms if we didn’t attack them. (No offense intended Canada. Just making a point.)

I hope I don’t get banned, but I’ve reached the tipping point. Enough is enough. Palestinians, it’s time for you to join humanity or be violently excised from it. Grow the f up quick. Your lives depend on it.

Is this Jon Carroll wacko an escapee from a psych ward?

No. San Francisco is a psych ward. If you doubt me, perhaps you may want to check out this ZombieTime Hall of Shame site which has some pictures of what passes for political debate in San Francisco. An individual who calls himself “Zombie” is responsible for it. His main website is called ZombieTime

EFG on June 30, 2006 at 8:22 PM

Sorry, I should have said that some of the pictures at Zombies websites are NOT CHILD SAFE OR WORK SAFE.

They aren’t hard core pornography, but San Franciscans have an annoying habit of getting naked to make political statements. And since Zombie just shoots the pictures like they are, well, you will get some occasional nudity shots.

Just a little heads up.

EFG on June 30, 2006 at 8:25 PM

Let me see if I get this straight
I was thought to be one of the best writers in my university in both academic papers and newspaper articles, I’ve published a thesis, twenty articles and two papers all held up to be good pieces and I’ve been writing for three sites for two years
And yet somehow I can’t find a job that pays me for my writing and this SOB gets paid to write stuff that would’ve caused me to get an F.
Life Sucks sometimes

btw New York doesn’t equal Jews you stupid anti-semite

Defector01 on June 30, 2006 at 8:27 PM

OH NO! They’ve cracked our secret racist code at last, the one we deny exists and laugh at whenever they bring it up!

see-dubya on June 30, 2006 at 8:31 PM

I just read that article which is written by an idiot, and is targeted at like minded idiots. That is about all I expect from the MSM today.

No wonder that these loons worship Rather. He reported with ‘proof‘.

Extreme pathological liars.

The Machine on June 30, 2006 at 10:03 PM

Please note that the link goes to a San Francisco location. We all know how much San Francisco just loves Bush!

I believe that much of what comes out of San Francisco, the most left wing of the left coast, is propaganda. In this particular case it may be wise to look first at where it comes from and then disregard.

omegaram on July 1, 2006 at 12:33 PM

Now that’s funny – my kinda dry wit!

As for the story – these people are confused. George Bush doesn’t hate Jews … he hates Black people. Aren’t these liberals paying attention when Kanye West is speaking?

Professor Blather on July 2, 2006 at 12:45 AM

Liberals spend all kinds of time imagining/inventing the sins of George Bush. Because if they accepted that he was simply a good man and a fair President, they wouldn’t have a basis for the hate which they are emotionally invested in.
Can anyone remember the last unkind word President Bush had for a Liberal, or anyone else? He’s a good man.

Doug on July 2, 2006 at 2:07 AM

Okay, I just went through the Carroll piece. What a sad man.
He sounds like one of those losers who pledged to move to Canada (even though Canada doesn’t deserve them)if Bush won re-election.

Doug on July 2, 2006 at 2:18 AM

Guess I better let my New York born, Jewish Republican friend know, boy, is he in for a shock!

jcon96 on July 2, 2006 at 10:52 AM

Carroll’s bio is a healthy cross section of way-out liberal rags and porno mags:

Rolling Stone, 1970, assistant editor. Rags, 1971, editor. Oui, 1972, editor. Village Voice, 1974, West Coast Editor.

Figures he’s the “respectable” one at the paper.

CrankyNeocon on July 2, 2006 at 5:41 PM

There really are two americas. But the division is not money. The division is how many (functional) brain cells you have.

RobertHuntingdon on July 3, 2006 at 10:35 AM

I resent President Bush being tarred as an “anti-Semite” and I resent being tarred with the same brush because I’m a Christian. Carroll is wrong on both counts.
