Pages 60 to 77 to be exact. Coincidentially, I just happen to have “Godless” propped up next to my monitor. Ms Coulter on Mr. Horton:

It was Gore who made the furlough program an issue during the primaries, giving rise to the notion that Dukakis was soft on crime (which he was). I’m working from memory on Gore mentioning Horton. Honestly I’m not sure how far I trust the Wikipedia entry on that score. Not sure how far I trust my memory either, of course–it was a long time ago.

I think my main point holds either way, that the origins of the Horton ad fall more fairly on Gore than Steele. Steele wasn’t even in politics in 1988 as far as I know.

And yes, Steve Gilliard’s “Sambo” attack on Steele is very relevant. Leveled against the likes of Cynthia McKinney, the entire left would have been in an uproar. Leveled at a Republican, the left calls it “edgy.”

If a black candidate is not committed to perpetuating the age old democrat vote farming operation, they are labeled an “Uncle Tom”. The success of the democrat vote farming scheme depends on keeping welfare blacks exactly where they are. Look at the operation they had going on in New Orleans. Welfare addiction, welfare dependence, cycle of poverty, the bigotry of low expectation, call it what you like. The bottom line is the welfare blacks there were paid to maintain the status quo in exchange for a rock solid democrat voting block. Once again, the dems don’t care if the scheme serves the best interests of the Country as long as it serves the dems.

Yes, the law originally went into effect under Francis Sargent, a republican, in 1972. However, in 1976 Governor Dukakis vetoed a bill to ban furloughs for first-degree murderers.

“Left unmodified” seems a little misleading. It was only left unmodified due to Dukakis’ veto. If Dukakis had signed the bill, Horton would have remained in jail.

Bryan, could you include a source on this claim? The Wikipedia article seems to suggest that Gore may not have mentioned Horton, but just the furlough program (which was begun by a Republican Governor and left unmodified by Dukakis) during the primary. You should either clear this up or retract it.

I wouldn’t want you to be accused of this same “guilt by association” B.S.

Democrats love democrats, not blacks. Just look how they threw William Jefferson to the curb. Maynard Jackson etc. in favor of lily white McAuliffe. Kwase Mfume got dissed in favor of lily white Ben Cardin. Whenever democrats have a chance to put blacks in powerful leadership roles, they choose white liberal. Rubin,Albright,Christopher, Berger,Stephanopoulis,McCurry, DeeDee Myers, The token he put up was an embarrasment by the name of Joycelyn “Clapner” Elders. Mike Espy was busted for bribes. Kimba Woods had illegal nanny. They are such racists, they actually believe blacks are inferior to whites, and need a racist policy called affirmative action.

It’s pretty simple, really. If you are a democrat, you can say whatever you want about anybody. You get a free pass to do so. This is so because as a democrat, or elitist, you are fighting for those you insult. They are after all, beneath you, but somebody has to fight for their pathetic little lives. Everybody knows that the big bad republicans are the root of their misery. Consequently, democrats are baffled when somebody like Michael Steele (or Condoleeza Rice, Alberto Gonzalez, Colin Powell or even Michelle Malkin) has conservative views, or worse yet, are republican. They feel betrayed. How dare they do that to the only party that has their back. As a conservative who happens to be Hispanic, I hear all the time from liberals that “any minority that votes for a republican ought to be taken out back and shot.”
