[...] If this is the logic, that Bush can’t be trusted now even with unambiguously legal surveillance, then the media has carte blanche to expose counterterrorism operations. Simple as that. It’s a self-awarded license to leak. Never mind the fact that some members of Congress were aware of the program (as Bush himself emphasized the other day), or that Lee Hamilton, Kean’s co-chair on the 9/11 commission, was briefed about it. Their lie is in service to a greater “truth” — that Bush himself, and not the terrorists he’s trying to track, is the primary threat to American national security. Better that ten guilty jihadis go free than one Republican president be able to police them in secret. [...]

Ooo he seems serious. Now if we can only get him that mad at illegals.

Hey new angle on that. Won't the new ID requirements recommended by DHS out every illegal in the country? No wonder Bush wants to get amnesty through Congress before Dec 31 2006. I'm guessing California will not comply. Forcing all legal citizens to get passports. And forcing the hand of ICE, and the IRS to clean up all the W-2 fraud.

[...] From HotAir.Com. - The LA Times printed a story leaking classified information in a recent story. They claim they were trying to be preemptive and show the administration for what they are. They even go on to defend themselves by saying that the only reason this has gotten a lot of publicity is because of right-wing bloggers and radio talk show hosts. [...]

Just maybe he's pissed enough to take some real action against these traitors. Let's hope.

Who was the idiot reporter who claimed that Congress wasn't informed, and what news organization does she work for? It would be interesting to follow-up to see how they reported the outcome of this press conference. (ie: did they mention in their coverage that Congress was indeed informed?)

[...] Sister Toldjah has the president’s angry remarks on this. On the video you can see just how angry the president is, but I think it’s time for Bush to be more than angry. I think he needs to put on his cowboy boots and stomp on some Hamptons-tanned toes. Or maybe he should let Lt. Cotton do it. He writes to Keller: And, by the way, having graduated from Harvard Law and practiced with a federal appellate judge and two Washington law firms before becoming an infantry officer, I am well-versed in the espionage laws relevant to this story and others — laws you have plainly violated. I hope that my colleagues at the Department of Justice match the courage of my soldiers here and prosecute you and your newspaper to the fullest extent of the law. By the time we return home, maybe you will be in your rightful place: not at the Pulitzer announcements, but behind bars. [...]

At Hot Air today, we resurrect the Private Snafu cartoons from WWII to try and help the Fish Wrappers understand that blabbing carries consequences. Watch the whole thing. Especially what's in the mirror at the end of the cartoon.......

[...] Bush also commented on the anti-terrorism finance program revealed by the NY Times (video here): “Congress was briefed. And what we did was fully authorized under the law. And the disclosure of this program is disgraceful. We’re at war with a bunch of people who want to hurt the United States of America, and for people to leak that program, and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America. What we were doing was the right thing. Congress was aware of it, and we were within the law to do so. [...]

Does the New York Times check its delivery vans and its contents to ensure the security of its employees in their building? Would they consider a background check on those delivery drivers an invasion of privacy? Would the publication of the New York Times Offices building blueprints and ventilation units be considered something that is in the public's interest? How about the schedule of their security staff's breaks and whether or not one of them has a bad gambling problem? What if a list of the working and non working security cameras is published? Would that be in the public interest? The home addresses of its reporting staff? I think the public would like to know.

Of course, the Times protects that information as part of its operational security and would diligently fight to prevent the disclosure of it for the safety of its employees. If anyone would disclose that information, the Times would consider it an attack on their own security and safety. But the Times endangers the rest of us by publishing our methods that we use to track terrorists.

What exactly is this line between public knowledge and the endangerment of society?

I think individuals should also revoke the NY Slimes press credentials. Don't let them in as accredited press, don't interview with them, don't buy advertisibng there etc.

As I wrote at my blog I don't see any other way to make them realize that there is a downside to spilling national secrets

[...] The NYT is at it again, blabbing our nations secrets. President Bush calls it like it is — disgraceful. Michelle Malkin has a nice collection of Photoshopped art of old which shows the nations take on what the NYT has done. Hugh Hewitt says “The tenured lefties at the two Times’ don’t hate the country, but they do hate George Bush, and that hatred has blinded them to the damage they are doing and have done to the national security. Their bland assurances of “agony” and “difficult decision making” will not sooth the public’s anger.” [...]
