Murtha, I served with Marines. I knew Marines. Marines are friends of mine. Murtha , you’re no Marine.

Wade on June 20, 2006 at 9:13 AM

I must say “Another OUTTTTTStanding Vent!” Everyone of you all at hotair are just busting behind to get a good product out there to us. You should be commended.
As soon as Murtha when out with his Okinawa comment, milblogs were already dismanteling it. It is frustrating that the left can’t seewhat a cluster they are. I really think some little birdy needs to perch on Murtha’s shoulder and tell me he needs to go home and sit on the front porch.

br8veheart on June 20, 2006 at 9:19 AM

Wonder what the Hummer Time is for running missions for an F16 from Okinawa? Does Al Gore know about this?

Bases on the Moon, Murtha!!!! That’s the ticket. “Moonbat Hen to Moonbat Chicks, do you copy? Come in Moonbat Chicks, over.”

Hening on June 20, 2006 at 9:27 AM

Murtha has become the military version of Jesse Jackson for the Dems Say anything to get attention, no matter how absurd.

realVerse on June 20, 2006 at 9:29 AM

Murtha will “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe . . .”

at least until Tuesday.

Some people think the purpose of the military is to marck in nifty parades, with a chest full of medals awarded for perfect attendance.

Those people are usualy tin pot dictators.

How about letting the military do what they do, without second guessing them at every step?

Wander on June 20, 2006 at 9:33 AM

Great vent, as usual Michelle. The “grandpa Simpson” description was perfect. Wish I thought of that. Wade is right, unindicted co-conspirtator Murtha is no Marine. I thought I was a mediocre Marine. I’m looking better & better these days.

wcarr on June 20, 2006 at 9:35 AM

Thank you Michelle for keeping Murtha in the lime light where he belongs. The best way to defeat the Democrat Party is to make them accountable for their what they do and say.

Rode Werk on June 20, 2006 at 9:35 AM

Hey! fun new options.
I’m happy to see you are trying to require some accountability by Murtha. Great Vent.
Also–I liked the ad at the end. I hope people took the time to watch it.

Leiren on June 20, 2006 at 9:38 AM

Murtha needs big action to protect his seat. This ranting on IRAQ is part of the plan.

He knows that if he made enough noise and attracted enough attention, then the DNC would suffer terrible consequence if he loses in November. He is pressuring them to put money and resources into his campaign.

This strategy could back fire on him. He could be drawing negative attention that the party does not need at this time. Apparently, that is exactly what he got.

DNC is not a tight ship. In fact it is like a splitting headache. Kerry and Murtha going one direction while Hillary is going the other. The Black Caucas has lost interest and hopes for the DNC to do anything for them in coming election. With DNC coming unhinged, we should be looking forward to more irratic characters like Murtha coming out to draw attention for their campaign by making irrational statement and acting irrationally.

Well, we’ve been saying for a long time now that the dims need to put out some ideas instead of their standard operating procedure – blame Bush. We got what we asked for. Keep it up, Murtha. You will be solely responsible for ensuring that the Republicans keep the house and senate in november. YeeHaa!! Dude, you have MADE MY DAY

Love the new buttons, btw.

You know, I’ve had it with you, John Patrick “Jack” Murtha, Jr.

You run away from the nursing home.

You become a Media Whore.

You keep on flapping your gums and screaming like a girl who just lost her virginity.

Listen Murtha boy, if you won’t stop hallucinating, I’ll go on national television and tell the whole world that you have a vagina.

CatholicConservative on June 20, 2006 at 10:04 AM

I don’t live in Maryland but I stayed on to watch the ad at the end of the vent. First, I was impressed by the ad. A quality pitch for a good candidate. I would encourage regular users to 1) watch the ads (it only takes a few seconds) and, 2) comment on them from time to time. This way sponsors will see that their material is being viewed by an appreciative audience. Revenues will go towards more high quality vents!

I’m Michael Stach and I endorse this message.

mkstach on June 20, 2006 at 10:09 AM

As easy87us said, it’s all about Murtha keeping his seat. Murtha has not had a serious challenger for DECADES. But do you think the average person is going to understand what Michelle said about performing strikes from Okinawa? I know for a fact they won’t: I grew up in Johnstown; my mother still lives there. (a Dem, but what can you do? All you can do is try to guide parents, but eventually you have to let them go and let them make their own mistakes).

My mother and I were talking about this issue last night; all she heard was “Murtha has a plan for getting us out of Iraq; Bush doesn’t”. I tried to explain about flight times, mission planning difficulties, but she doesn’t see it.

It’s a shame, too. Murtha used to be such a friend of the military; and he still holds an important seat on the House Armed Services Committee. My father knew him well back in the day, and I USED to have a lot of respect for him; even if I didn’t agree with his politics, I USED to think he had the country’s best interests at heart.

dalewalt on June 20, 2006 at 10:09 AM

Good Vent, AND the Mike Steele sponsor piece. I like what he says so far. Can’t say the same for murtha.

Michelle seems to know more about “Projection of Forces” than the entire DNC. I don’t know whether Murtha is getting his advices from Wesley Clark or from grandpa Simpson, but he sure looks dumb and stupid for proposing redeployment to Okinawa.

Okinawa is a forward base for the Pacific theater to put a choke on the China navy. It complements Guam and Aleutian Islands to form a line of defense again any major navy excursions from Russia or from China. Okinawa is a good position for navy forces, not marines. We have to maintain troops in the middle east and the marines are now located exactly where they can defend our oil supplies and protect our friends in middle east. Our oil supply must be secured or we could be looking at 10 dollar a gallon of gas. Murtha may have this in mind when he and Kerry were calling for a complete withdrawal from Iraq. An unstable middle east will definitely help the DNC to win elections. But it is totally rediculous to propose to redeploy our marine to Okinawa.

I am sure DNC would love to have an unstable middle east.

And the Steele spot was awesome! I want to hear and see more politicians advocating these same core goals… on BOTH sides of the aisle.

And thanks HotAir for the html formatting buttons. The site is evolving nicely.

/liberal-on

LMAO! Can’t beleive that ad at the end for that self-loathing race-traitor Uncle Tom!!!!!!!!!!!

/liberal-off

At this point I now know what liberals are thinking before they do. And Michael Steele is the giant hand of reality slapping away their tin-foil dreams. Since they simply can’t fathom a Black man having independent thoughts or political free will, Steele is an abomination to them. To accept him, they have to acknowledge that everything they pretend to believe is false.

Hence, Steele is my new hero.

On another note: how is Murtha’s opponent doing? Does she have a chance? And am I the only one laughing at the fact the the DUmmies get stuck supporting this loony white male while his conservative opponent is a woman?

The cognitive dissonance in liberal land must be approaching critical mass.

As for Murtha, well … the comparison is an insult to Abe Simpson. Okinawa, huh? Brilliant. Numbnuts.

Professor Blather on June 20, 2006 at 11:18 AM

Michelle, you are a visionary. Hotair is so far superior to old media there is no way to compare them. Your expressions bring the story to life and you beautifully illustrate the foolishness of fools like Murtha. I laughed out loud when I first heard Murtha say we could bring the troops back to Okinawa, but you make the point so well. I can’t wait to see the liberal copycats try to do what you do. This is just going to be more fun.

wcarr on June 20, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Hey Michelle, your employee “Allahpundit” is trying to say that your clothes were clean despite the fact that they were the same on this vent and on O’Reilly yesterday. He said there was few hours between the two.

Don’t worry, I didn’t pay attention.

Just make sure you wash them today :-)

CatholicConservative on June 20, 2006 at 11:20 AM

Wow… Michelle, Bryan… Vent just keeps getting better and better. Really nice work, HTML buttons, and I even was pleasantly surprised by Mr. Steele’s pitch, too.

So I must ask where Mr. Steele stands on the 2nd Amendment? Maryland is in major need of a vocal and proud supporter of the #2!! I have friends that live there and it is even worse than my home state of Maine.

Lastly, Murtha is such an ass. I think we all need to pound on how he played the major role in encouraging Clinton to yank our troops from Somalia and the impact that had in Bin Laden’s decision that we were just a Paper Tiger. I don’t think that information is nearly well known enough. How would one lay their head on a pillow and live with the nightmares that surely would follow after being instrumental in that retreat? Then to be so self protective that you would continue to push the same cowardice actions again? Does it somehow help him hide from his own dark truth? How reprehensible!

Okinawa?? In the words of the great Bugs Bunny, “What a maroon!”

StephC on June 20, 2006 at 11:35 AM

F-15E’s (based at Kadena) have a range of 4000-6000 miles depending on the weapons load.

These would be used because of the following reasons:
Greater spead
Greater range
Greater weapons load and capability

rattrap47 on June 20, 2006 at 11:36 AM

F-15e has a range of 2400 – 3500 miles. Depending upon which Air Force web site you check.

horsepower_1st on June 20, 2006 at 11:51 AM

They used F-16s in the Zarq strike, so that’s what we went with for this Vent. Apples and apples. Either way, you’re still talking about an aerial refueling (more than one–at least one on the way there and on the way back) and a long travel time. You’re also talking about either overflying China and Iran or going around them, adding hundreds of miles to the flight. And there are other countries on the route too–we would have to have overflight permission from all of them, or fly around Asia itself to get to Iraq. By contrast, at least one of the F-16s in the Zarq strike was already airborne when they got the word to go. The response time was obviously quick enough to be effective–they got their man.

If you really want over-the-horizon force projection, sea-based air power is the way to go. Not Okinawa or anyplace else thousands of miles away. It’s ridiculous to posit Okinawa as a viable base for fighting a war in Iraq, especially with conventional aircraft. Stealths are a different story, but they’re too slow. You would have to base them close by, defeating Murtha’s point. And if they’re ever spotted over one of those countries we’re overflying (China claims it has anti-stealth technology online), they may be shot down and paraded before the world.

And the terrorists get away.

Bryan on June 20, 2006 at 11:56 AM

Prof,

No idea how Murtha’s opponent is doing; though she apparently was scheduled to appear on Fox and Friends this morning. Her web site, if anybody would like to take a look, is here. Unfortunately, I currently live just outside of the 12th Congresscritter district (Murtha’s).

She’s apparently attempting to get a lot of mileage out of Murtha’s missteps… I’m rooting for her.

Pelosi, Murtha, Kennedy, Boxer, Feinstein and the gang of thieves, and whores that is the DimmoCRAP party will try to try this nation asunder. PEOPLE LETS SEND A MESSAGE TO THE DEMMOCRATES THIS NOVEMBER. Lets 86 this psck of RATS.

birdman on June 20, 2006 at 12:03 PM

It is not the range tha counts. Michelle got it right..it is the timeliness that count. These terrorists learnt to stay no more than a few hours in one location. Once we received the intel on a terrorist we have a couple hours to respond. Usually the time is spent by intel units to arrive on site to confirm the target while the planes are on their way.

If we don’t have on site confirmation and marking of the target I don’t think we can strike without producing substantial colateral damages.

Moving the troop out will completely disable us from these sorts of mission.

Great ad for Steele!

venmax on June 20, 2006 at 12:43 PM

Good vent overall, Michelle, although one must admit it’s more than a little reductio ad absurdum; I don’t think that even a fool like Murtha would propose basing all our airpower in Okinawa … and if we take his statement as a whole, the airpower could come from Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrain. So, I wouldn’t overdo the “Murtha wants to fight the war from Okinawa!” angle.

But that doesn’t take away from Murtha’s mention of Okinawa in the first place; regardless of who we’d station there (ground, air or naval forces), they’d be effectively useless; that, and the fact that the last thing the locals would be willing to put up with is a buildup of American forces on that island.

Upshot: I think Murtha jumped the shark with this one, simply because he didn’t know when to shut up. From now on, “Okinawa!” will be the first word that a lot of people associate when they hear his name, just like Kerry lost any pretense at credibility when he uttered those two words, “Global Test!”

Spurius Ligustinus on June 20, 2006 at 1:56 PM

Great Vent, MM for SecDef..:) I think the blowhard is still trying to figure out why he is a laughing stock. Wanna bet he dusts of his uniform from time to time and thinks “People listened then, why not now?” anyway, to the point commentary, with some comedy thrown in for good effect. Like the Michael Steele ad as well. Could he move to West Palm and run for Florida? God knows we need to clean out the lunatics we have now.

Amen – and this is precisely what I fear most.

I don’t fear terrorists.

I fear liberals.

Because the only way we can ever lose is if the liberals insist we lose. The only way our civilication will ever collapse is from within.

On the issues, I’m a moderate. I’m an independent. But when I vote, I vote anti-liberal, always – because liberalism (and it’s friend socialism) are the greatest evils to face mankind. Ever.

Sound like hyperbole? It’s not. Liberalism isn’t evil on its own; it is evil because it permits evil to happen. Appeasement and multi-culturalism and globalism gave us Neville Chamberlain.

Your post is exactly right. We can’t lose militarily, but liberals can force us from the battlefield. With every death in vain.

You only need to look at the post right after yours from the woefully uneducated “Vanya” to see the proof of what you say.

God help us if the next major world crisis comes when the liberals hold sway over public opinion.

Professor Blather on June 20, 2006 at 5:21 PM

Vanya, I beleive the MSM is covering that alleged story.
You see, Michelle only covers one story a day. And she tends to cover the stories that the MSM do not.

I kinow you already know this, and are just spreading more of your hate in leftist innuendo. but guesse what? Your heros savagely murdered two soldiers today. Your heros booby trapped their bodies. Your heros are nothing more then terrorists and enemy combatants who, if I understand the Geneva conventions, are to be SHOT on site. Not captured, Not given medical care. but shot.
But America, which you hate so much as the root of all evil won’t do that. America will show decency and humanity to these butchers. And if, just if, a few men out of 130,000 were to kill some of these homicidal heroes of yours, or heavens forbid, an innocent person, you and your freinds will be right their screaming how bad we are.
Screw you, screw your hatred of all things american, and screw your liberal socialist agenda. Get your own damn vent, post your own little bit of hate in the world so you can feel good about yourself while you recite the Koran, and let Michelle vent on what she wants to. Unless you are funding her you have NO right to tell her what to vent on.

Professor Blather on June 20, 2006 at 5:54 PM

Do you support all of the troops, or not? Where’s your support of the marines accused of murder? Or does Michelle just report on convenient little side stories that are amusing but irrelevant? Canoegirl? Dixie Chicks? Letterman? Who cares? Maybe if Michelle reported on real stories, she would have some credibility among people other than illiterate flaming Weirdos.

Vanya on June 20, 2006 at 6:21 PM

Man, O’Reilly is lucky Michelle was in DC, else he would have probably been nursing a thick ear for some of the cracks thrown her way. Between her appearance on fox, and this vent, I can see she’s pretty wound up about Murtha..and I don’t blame her. I don’t write for a living but I can only imagine irritating it must be to have so much stupidity to respond to on a daily basis. Me, I just have employees to chase around and make sure they don’t break anything too expensive. I mean, Okinawa? Why not Tierra Del Fuego? Why not the Dark Side of the Moon? Think of the ring that would have…Fighters launched weeks ago from the Dark side of the Moon bombed an empty house, once believe to have given shelter to some terrorist. Man, that stirs my blood. See, what we’re forgetting is Murtha is from the Bill Clinton school of Military action; that is, the lots of sound and fury signifying nothing method. Remember his bombing of the Iraqi Intelligence Building? Did it at night; I hear he took out most of the cleaning crew. Then there was the aspirin factory where Osama Bin Laden liked to use the toilet. Never again. So, Murtha would love fighters to be based in Okinawa; or Tierra del Fuego, or perhaps, if you like Lovecraft, in one of the DARK CORNERS OF THE EEEAAARTH. We can launch strikes all day, never hit anything but man, the papers will be atwitter with all of the activity. Remember the A-Team? Bloodless violence. You can shoot at the terrorists; just don’t kill them. Geez, I just wanted to comment on a great vent and this turned into a bloody rant. Well, the new buttons distracted me…look, something shiny..:)

austinnelly on June 20, 2006 at 6:29 PM

bite me Vanya
All you know is troll baiting, and innane comments. You have not said a single thing inteligent. You spout off platitudes, you slam Michelle for not reporting “real stories” and you generaly try to rile people up. It’s your lucky day. I was riled when I got home, and you get to profit by thinking that you “stuck one to the man”

Say something, anything inteligent. Come up with something other then a “do you support the troops” while you hope and you pray that they are guilty.
I support the troops. If they grabbed a few innocent Iraqi’s and killed them in cold blood I will still support our troops. Now for those individuals I think they should be tried for their crimes. But their crimes do not reflect on the troops, just like your inane posturing does not reflect on all liberals.
Now then, if those troops killed enemy combatants then I say give them a medal. If they killed some pricks who cheered on the torture and murder of our 2 soldiers yesterday then give them a parade.
Where is michelles support of those troops? in every line she writes, in every word she speaks, and in every action she takes. If you can not comprehend that then thats your problem. Stop ascribing your inadaquacies to your betters.

Vanya, You are nothing more then a troll that was invited into Bryan, Allahs, and Michelles home. Once their you proceded to defecate on the furniture and complain that their wall paper does not suit you.
I hope my inane and angry rantings are giving you plenty of joy. This is where I drop it. I apologise to the other readers who had to wade through my invective, I’ll try to be more civil in future posts.

First off how dare you besmerch the great character of Stewie Griffin with such slander as to include him with that windbag traitor, Murtha the Mental.

Second, great episode of vent….but I read an F-16 with a 2,000 lb combat load has a range of about 750 miles give or take and that it would need upwards of 6 mid-air refuelings each way for AZ strike. Info might be off…let me know if it is.

Third, with Steele’s ad and Murth’s challenger, my only predicament is that I am not liberally challenged, i.e. using a residence, fake or real, to vote in more than one election a la the 2004 Presidential Race. Hope both win and stick a rusty fork in bubble world of the left when their front men lose.

Vanya my friend,

Firstly, Michelle never sets the tones. There is no censorship here unless you use foul words or use threatening languages. I wish I can speak as nice as Michelle but at my age I would be very happy just keeping my voice.

Civility lies in respect. If you do not respect the posters here and intentionally agitate them, they will response accordingly. For crying out loud, have you read the big Banner before you post? HOT AIR! VENT!…Do you have problem understanding that the intention of this web site is to allow us to vent?

You want high standard? may be you should go read Barbra Streisand’s web site. She is spelling much better lately. But here, we are hot air vents.

We are sheeps? Come on, what gives you that impression? I think a few guys here are having a crush on Michelle, that is why they are here complimenting everything she said. Hey, Michelle is good. That is why you are not up there and I am not up there doing the vent. Who want to watch you or I venting?

Sheeps?…They are more like tigers to me. Only you would call them sheeps. Do you really think CatholicConservative and Dman are sheeps?

easy87us on June 20, 2006 at 8:07 PM

“Sheeps.” More illiteracy from fans of Michelle. Hot Air, Vent. An aptly named activity on an aptly named site. That’s just about how significant these rants are. A bunch of hot air. Sound and fury signifying nothing.

Diana Irey should USE THIS VENT as a perfect example of how to use Murtha’s own words against him.

He is a pathetic thinker, with stupid, irrational ideas of how to fight against this Jihad…

Michelle systematically ripped apart Murtha’s PATHETIC “WAGE THE WAR FROM OKINAWA” argument..

MM totally exposed him for the reckless boob that he has become and Diana Irey should memorize the text and use it every day.

MM, thanks for introducing Diana Irey to America (She’s smart, she’s tough, and she’s great looking too!) – I hope America digs deep and sends her some money to defeat the traitor Murtha.

Note: Diana Irey said she’s received A LOT of contributions from the Troops in Iraq – THAT SAYS IT ALL!

This is how we articulate support for the accused Marines: Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Until the evidence proves the Marines indeed commited the offenses they are accused of. And, if found guilty of these alleged offenses, we throw the book at them, because we are a society of uniform law and order. This is not inconsistent with fully supporting the troops.

By buying into (and recycling) Howard Dean’s propaganda as regurgitated by John Murtha and John F. Kerry, you have proven yourself to be the real sheep. If you are going to come here and try to run smack, I suggest you come with something stronger than calling people “sheep” and recycling wack talking points. Leave that to DNC leadership and the drive-by media, because you suck at it.

Thank you. Now go back and play with Kos.

Kid from Brooklyn on June 20, 2006 at 8:58 PM

Vanya. You’re amusing.

ztep86 on June 20, 2006 at 8:59 PM

dalewalt, I love what you said:

my mother still lives there. (a Dem, but what can you do? All you can do is try to guide parents, but eventually you have to let them go and let them make their own mistakes).

I remember my Mother and they way she was(Dem)also to her grave.

( Vanya Fatuous Dem Leader )Eat S*** AND PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS….

Michelle , GR8 vent just keep telling them like it is.

USA WILL RIDE WITH THE TIDE AND WASH THE TERRORISTS & DEMS AWAY!

“Sheeps.” More illiteracy from fans of Michelle. Hot Air, Vent. An aptly named activity on an aptly named site. That’s just about how significant these rants are. A bunch of hot air. Sound and fury signifying nothing.

Vanya on June 20, 2006 at 8:18 PM

Now you are talking, Vanya. I would expect intelletual like your type would never bother to respond to any poster here. Or may I go one step further to say that, with abundant literacy and giant intelligence, you should not come to this humble site. But you do.

There is an old saying…oil is found in oil bucket. May I conclude that you are just like us because your are here. So putting down your own type make you even lower than all of us here. Am I right?

Please accept the reality. Jason is calling Scotty to beam him up now, so please don’t end up like him.

Vanya, I realize my eloquent deconstruction and summation of Clinton era military deployments into a small piece of a well loved Shakespearean soliloquy may have stunned you into an even more frenzied display of malicious stupidity, but did you really have to turn around and drop the same phrase into one of your fetid posts? I know you enjoy the role of turd in the punchbowl around here but would some originality be asking too much?

austinnelly on June 20, 2006 at 10:08 PM

Catholic C: Us Catholics have to stick together. I think my eyes are deseiving me. I was saying to myself were in the heck is that quote. I finnally gave up looking for it. You are 120% right with what you said. Murtha has no morales, he has sold his SOUL to the DimmoCRAP party.

==============================================================

I said I was kidding. Don’t take personally or I’ll excommuniate you! :)

CatholicConservative on June 20, 2006 at 10:11 PM

The more they talk, the more liberal democrats prove that they are simply, idiots.

NRA4Freedom on June 20, 2006 at 10:12 PM

That was a great Vent, and that ad for Michael Steele was awesome. I’m glad Diana Irey was mentioned as well. She’ll give Murtha a run for his money.

Steve Tsouloufis on June 20, 2006 at 10:38 PM

Irey will defeat Murtha.

easy87us on June 20, 2006 at 10:40 PM

The Dems aren’t playing into anyone’s hands except the electorate. They’re more radical than they are stupid…. I think.

RolandHall on June 20, 2006 at 11:01 PM

Congress could use a man of Steele.

Highplains on June 21, 2006 at 12:40 AM

Way to go Michelle!! “Right” press and exposure for two “right” candidates in one vent. I cannot vote for either one of them – but I can help both with small contributions.

Now THAT is funny!! :)

Professor Blather on June 21, 2006 at 7:16 AM

Jack Murtha, Don Rumsfeld, Bush, Nixon, Johnson are all the same,,,,they got us killed, wounded and maligned because of their total incompetence fighting a war.
We need more generals like ‘Barnes’ from Platoon.
Not the wussies we have now.
We leveled cities in Germany, Japan….and now Rumsfeld locks up our fighting men now at the instruction of Bush….when the enemy complains and lies about atrocities.
We can’t whip 25000 rag heads in the same amount of time we won WWII with this bunch of ‘tough guys’.

LZVandy on June 21, 2006 at 9:47 AM

Loved this Vent … and to preen a bit, since it seems my Murtha=Grandpa Simpson is spreading

I’ve been doing the comparison of quotes since last November (and here and here

BTW Vanya?

I have but one question for you

Do you at least acknowledge that the people we are fighting are evil?

Darleen on June 21, 2006 at 9:51 AM

Why is beheading people considered more evil or barbaric than dropping 500 pound bombs on them? People fight with the tools they have. We have F-15s, they have IEDs and big knives (material for the IEDs probably came from the US when we were friends with Saddam). If you’re not ready to suffer the kind of resistance the Iraqis are putting up, don’t get involved in the first place.

Vanya on June 21, 2006 at 1:32 PM

Thank you Vanya for answering. As you cannot or will not grasp the clear moral difference between America and the Islamofascists we absolutely have no grounds on even to begin an intelligent conversation. You are, at best, so morally confused as to make conversation impossible.

I pity you.

Buh bye
