Anybody else ever see the 2002 teen flick “Slackers?” About 3 guys who cheat their way through college? Anyone?

Well, the main character (“Dave,” I think) has this technique for successfully lying, particularly to girls. He simply chooses to believe his own lie, and then repeats it over and over, looking right at his victim. After a few repetitions, they buy it. There’s a classic scene in the flick where he convinces two young honey’s that he’s a “commercial airline pilot” by doing this.

Same exact principle here. Only the kid in the movie was good at it.

So let me get this straight: Truthout got intelligence that it thought was unimpeachable – a “slam dunk,” if you will – then used that intelligence to make claims that later turned out to be false, continues to say that its claims may yet turn out to…

How low can they get?

For the record, we did reach Kimberly Nerheim, a spokesperson for Patrick Fitzgerald, and asked her these questions: Did a grand jury return an indictment of Karl Rove? Did Patrick Fitzgerald send a fax to Robert Luskin similar to that described in recent press reports? Is Patrick Fitzgerald’s probe of the Plame matter still ongoing? Her response to each question was identical: “I have no comment.”

Basically, the truthout people seek answers from the Fitzgerald office in order to cover Leopold and how Truthout was either (a) played like a carnival kazoo, or (b) complicit in the whole affair and the chickens are coming home to roost. By asking the Fitzgerald office, the know that they will not get any answers, because answering their questions or revealing the goings-on of a grand jury is against federal law. They knew they were going to get a non-answer and would then use that to back their contention that it was positive proof that Rove was in fact indicted, or at very least it is unproveable as anyone on the right (or in their right minds) would not be able to very their claims as they would receive the same answers.
