Well, we are watching history in the making, folks. Dan could have gone out with class, but instead, like the old codger that has no clue, thinks he is still relavent to what makes news, these days. Notice I said “makes news” as in the fake documents, Mary Mapes, and that whole hot air thing. He realy should have resigned directly after that but could not pick up on the ‘frequency’ and so stayed around long after his expiration date. Dan..please don’t go away mad…just GO AWAY….! Perkey Katie is still around to hold up your legacy….just so we don’t forget what you were all about. Buh Buy!!!!

Buh-bye. You won’t be missed. Courage!

JammieWearingFool on June 15, 2006 at 10:52 AM

You think he checked the authenticity of his pinkslip? Or did he accept it at face value?

BelchSpeak on June 15, 2006 at 10:58 AM

This is obviously a right-wing plot.

clyde on June 15, 2006 at 11:00 AM

On second thought, maybe he and Mary Mapes can go to lunch.
No telling WHAT might develop, as long as one of them has access to Photoshop.

clyde on June 15, 2006 at 11:01 AM

Now he can go work for “The Daily Show”, since he has a proven track record of making up “fake news”.

DirkBelig on June 15, 2006 at 11:06 AM

I think your proof that Rather was the real scarecrow is more convincing than CBS’s proof that the National Guard documents were real. Nice work as usual.

I can’t wait for the bitter memoir.

Clark1 on June 15, 2006 at 11:16 AM

Bring on the next bozo.

birdman on June 15, 2006 at 11:42 AM

The next bozo has already been hired. It’s a bozoette. Her name is Katie Bozo.

clyde on June 15, 2006 at 11:46 AM

Good riddance.

HILARIOUS PHOTO—When i recognized the face of DELIRIOUS DAN I couldn’t stop laughing for several minutes. A fitting end for a certifiable STRAWMAN .

PAPA BEAR on June 15, 2006 at 12:26 PM

Well, that was inevitable.

I think what hurt Dan the most was not the initial story. If the story had run, then he had honestly examined it again after questions were raised, he might have made it out with his reputation intact.

The beginning of the end for Dan was his red-faced defense of the original story on the CBS Evening News, which ignored the mounting evidence against the authenticity of the documents. It was a stunning example of arrogance, and showed that Dan really didn’t believe the information landscape has changed.

I saw Dan speak last November at a college in our area. He still doesn’t get it. Dan said that despite this generation’s ready access to information, we still “aren’t as informed as we ought to be” because so much of our information comes from those with “partisan and ideological” motives. He drew a clear distinction between the news smaller outlets (such as blogs) report and the “news we need to know about.”

I believe he will go to his grave thinking he was right and everyone else was wrong on this story.

Slublog on June 15, 2006 at 12:40 PM

Maybe he should run for office. I’m sure somebody would vote for him.

Kini on June 15, 2006 at 1:00 PM

Breaking: Truthout just offered Mr. Rather a prominent and life-long correspondent spot.

Entelechy on June 15, 2006 at 3:22 PM

Slublog, you wrote “Dan said that despite this generation’s ready access to information, we still “aren’t as informed as we ought to be”.

What he meant is that we no longer believe what the MSM says.

Entelechy on June 15, 2006 at 3:53 PM

I just love Photoshop! Great job.

dman on June 15, 2006 at 5:34 PM

“hurt and puzzled”, isn’t that the way all liberals end up at the end of the day?

sMack on June 15, 2006 at 8:03 PM

I’ll miss you too, nutjob… but I’m practicing my aim!

RolandHall on June 15, 2006 at 8:59 PM

Hey MSM – looks like Dorothy’s house just landed on you.
