Her and Carlin, mano a mano on the Tonight Show. Or not: they’ll both be on but maybe not at the same time. If it happens, I’ll post the video here soon after.
To whet your appetite, here’s Michael Smerconish laying down the law on AC tonight on Scarborough Country. I should have had video of that too, but my goddamned computer malfunctioned. Expose the Left will probably have it later. Also, John Hawkins interviews Coulter; Patterico observes a contradiction within the pro-Coulter camp; and AC reaps the whirlwind on the NY Times bestseller list.
Update: Leno tapes several hours in advance, more than enough time for producers to have leaked it to Drudge if something happened between her and Carlin. Drudge’s relationship with Coulter is such that he’d be hyping it to the skies if it had. But there’s nothing on the Drudge Report about it. I think we’re looking at a dud here.
Update: Jim Treacher e-mails with a memo for the Coulterklatsch: “I guess all these people are liberals, huh?”
Here’s a screenshot of the Leno promo. Carlin looks happy:

Update: The Freepers claim to have sent a contingent to the show to root Coulter on. Sounds like they made it in: Leno just cracked a joke about Rove not being indicted and it got surprisingly big cheers, leading him to remark upon his “new right-wing audience.”
Update: One of the Freepers is back from the show and has filed a report. ‘Twas indeed a dud.
Update: Video’s coming up in a few. While you wait, Vinnie from My Pet Jawa has audio of an interview between Coulter and someone named Tom Becka, who’s excruciatingly annoying.
Update: Enjoy.

Rish Limbaugh said it well..”It’s a way to paralyze and stifle — it’s actually censorship in a way. Establishing somebody as a victim, as a Democrat, then making them infallible is a way of stifling free speech. It’s censorship. It is preventing debate. That’s what the left is all about. ”
He also questioned those who have not given equal attention to what the Jersey widows have said in the past upon the souls of their dead husbands.
If I have to defend Ann’s right to free speech one more time I have to send her a bill…LOL
easy87us on June 14, 2006 at 11:18 PM
It’s got to be said… it must be a slow news week if all the press can do is talk Coulter!
I’m no fan of hers, really, but she isn’t the anti-Christ, either! She does not make policy in government or control the GOP nor is she even a leader in the Conservative movement!
I don’t know why the left gives her so much worry?
Warner Todd Huston on June 14, 2006 at 11:36 PM
Smerconish is on the wrong side of this issue… but he’s stubborn and thinks we’re dumb and he’s an elitist “thinker”.
He doesn’t know that 95% of us “get her” and take her comments into context…
Here’s how we feel – Ann’s comments won’t harm our Troops, The Jersey Girls comments get our troops killed.. – Smerconish just doesn’t get it..
Anyone who thinks we should “pull out before we win” (Smerconish), loses credibility on their Coulter aurguments –
Be advised Smerconish – the troops don’t want to “come home safe”, the troops want “to finish the job” – Just ask them.
Richard Davis on June 14, 2006 at 11:47 PM
The left has no better things to do.
Just Look at them, wearing tin foil and drinking koolaid in the dullest part in the whole wild world.
If Ann is not tired I am…let us go to watch Michelle do fashion show on her vent.
easy87us on June 14, 2006 at 11:48 PM
Yes, Smerconish is way out of line with this. He’s on the same page with that pussy Chris Matthews who he was playing footsie with on his radio show this morning

Man…talk about your body language.
The Ugly American on June 15, 2006 at 1:25 AM
Ya know I understand people maybe getting a little tired of the whole AC/Jersey Girls thing. But I think that the real issue is being overlooked here.
Look, what this is about is CENSORSHIP….the trotting out of the infallible victims by liberals to stifle FREE SPEECH.
Coulter called em on it, and they are effectively preventing anyone from discussing the denial of the rights of their opponents to bring counter arguments to any position by claiming that anyone with a different viewpoint is attacking the “infallible” victims…instead of the message.
So any issue is basically side tracked by accusations of insensitivity instead of defending the argument.
I agree with her message, and I don’t care how “mean” it was, it was the truth.
Cpilot on June 15, 2006 at 1:45 AM
Again Ann made her points, placed a few barbs in tender areas, and from what I’ve read on other blogs she has the libs as inanely worked up as Rush regularly succeeds in doing.
I call that talent. ;o)
DannoJyd on June 15, 2006 at 1:57 AM
Ann gives a good right upper cut to the solar plexus of the liberal machine. She gives as good as she gets, which is what we all have been getting from lib bias for a long time.
Nobody can deny nothing succeeds like success.
I for one enjoyed immensely watching the holier than thou’s double over in pain this week. Set’n liberals to ’stepp’n n’ fetch’n’ is just a whole lotta fun.
Speakup on June 15, 2006 at 2:39 AM
But isn’t this kind of censorship a trademark of the left? I mean “Racist” “Homophobe” “Sexist” “misogynist” aren’t these all buzzwords thrown at ANYONE who disagrees with a “protected species” of libtard?
I remember 1st year in college having a know nothing “education professor” call me a “militaristic, sexist, homophobe” because I said in a debate that military service sould be mandatory for all men healthy and moral enough.
This “closet censorship” has got to be quashed and Ann is a good person to start it off. At least no one is likely to tag her with the belle doux that I got hung on me.
Duty, Honor, Country

I strongly disagree that Ann Coulter’s appearance with Jay Leno and George Carlin was a “dud.” For once, Ann had ample opportunity to explain the context of her “controversial” statements. More importantly, however, was Ann’s pronouncement of success in her reason for using the Jersey Girls as an example of the liberals’ use of victims as fronts for leftist causes: “I guess they won’t be doing that anymore.” Indeed, they won’t be doing that anymore without the cognizance of the public that this practice is a leftist tactic for political gain. She made her point and exposed the shameless practice of stifling political debate and free speech by trotting out the likes of Cindy Sheehan, Michael Berg, and the Jersey Girls — individuals whose only moral authority to shape political discourse lies in the tragic death of a family member. The fact that Ann and George Carlin didn’t get into a screaming match doesn’t make the program a “dud” or make Coulter’s appearance unsuccessful. On the contrary, her exposure of an immoral and illegitimate liberal political strategy is exciting and more important than a debate with Leno or anyone else. It was also interesting to note that not a single “boo” or jeer was audible in the L.A. audience; Hillary Clinton didn’t enjoy the same success when appearing before a group of her own political kind. That is a sign of progress.
csjd on June 15, 2006 at 3:57 AM
Rowane,
That’s the unit motto of my first active duty assignment in the Army. I still use it.
Roland,
While the thought of having Ann in my bed is a bit exciting, I’d be afriad I’d break her. I’m the “anti-metro-sexual”. I’m 5′10″ tall, and 240 lbs, drive a truck now, and deliver (by hand truck) 30,000 lbs of food every day.
Yep, I’m afraid she’d be in pieces.
(She’s just way too scrawny for me, I SO prefer women with curves)
Mortis on June 15, 2006 at 5:40 AM
From shortly after midnight to 6AM, over 90% of those who viewed Ann’s book on Amazon, bought it. Never seen a figure that high. She had been in the low 60% (which is still exceptional)
Essex on June 15, 2006 at 5:46 AM
From the linked Freeper set report:
The musical guest was some chick from Scotland who stank, but had a mysterious message taped to her guitar which read: “THIS MACHINE KILLS FACISTS.”
I bet she’s be thrilled if we printed up bumper stickers that say that and sent them to our troops in Iraq to affix to their materiel.
saint kansas on June 15, 2006 at 6:09 AM
It’s so strange (yet pleasant) to see a show like Leno and actually here the audience cheering what seem to be sensible things. I’m used to a Hollywood audience cheering the antithesis of my beliefs.
Is this the affirmation liberals feel all the time? No wonder it goes to their heads.
Holmwood on June 15, 2006 at 6:27 AM
Say what you will about Ann – she’s EFFECTIVE.
dman on June 15, 2006 at 7:58 AM
Well, the Leno show was a slow watch BUT, IMHO, the controversey has died down a bit BECAUSE she made her point accuratley, and no one has an effective comeback to her logic anymore. SHE WON!!! and we have been freed up to speak our minds, no matter who is debating an issue…be it the wife/parents of a fallen soldier or someone who lost a family member at the WTC. Ann is the QUEEN OF LOGIC and I thank her for breaking through that invisible barrier of guilt we have carried. She disarmed them…hoooooray! The playing field is leveled!!
Sandys Beach on June 15, 2006 at 8:44 AM
Oh and I forgot my real reason for logging on this AM….what i meant to say, before I got carried away, was this: these very same people will not stop…I am talking about Sheehan, The Jersey Girls (they need to stop calling them selves that stupid moniker) and Michael Berg..BUT, the vast majority of us have lost that soft spot to which they all seemed to get to. The soft spot is gone….replaced with the ANN LOGIC that makes perfect sense.
Sandys Beach on June 15, 2006 at 8:49 AM
There are city regulations to regulate signs, appearance of building, etc. Displaying Swastika or picture of Hitler in prominant locations may be considered inappropiate and be disapproved. The same local regulations could be applied advertisement of nudity or appearance of mosque.
If that guy built a shrine with no offensive external features, then this is none of our business.
Of course, local city council may deem it politically incorrect not to violate the First Amendment. They banned baby Jesus, didn’t they?

Ooops..wrong subject!
easy87us on June 15, 2006 at 9:46 AM
Sandys Beach you nailed it. It’s great to see the fascist liberal machine derailed so effectively.
Her new column on human events is even harsher than the book.
http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=15574&o=ANN001
By attacking the semantics instead of the backbone of her arguments, the liberals have basically said she has it right. They are not objecting to the claim that they are godless or that Clintoon is a rapist or that Darwinism is not a theory at all…Her logic is like salt on slugs to the libs.
Fun stuff.
NTWR on June 15, 2006 at 9:47 AM
I realize that this is off topic, but I just wish she’d go out and buy a new dress for crying out loud! It’s not like she’s broke or anything!
Hey Goldie Legs! I’m sure your choice of haute couture must make it really easy to pack given your busy schedule, but if I see that “little black dress” one more time I’m going to email Queer Eye and ask if they’ll make an exception.
Hell, I may wear the same right-wing conservative comfort clothes every day, you know, Camo, jungle boots, bandana, rucksack, bandoleer, and broadsword; but I never leave the ship!
PS. Yes I can use haute couture in a sentence if I want to! Wanna make something of it?

What’s a poor liberal to do?
1 Zarqawi killed
2 Bush makes successful surprise visit to Iraq
3 The Three Stooges McKinney, Jefferson and Patrick Kennedy are embarrassing the House.
4 Rove not indicted
5 The Duke rape case coming apart
6 Doubts being cast about “slam dunk” Haditha
7 Interior & Defense Ministers complete the Iraqi Govt.
8 Former presidential candidates Gore & Kerry sound like terrorist spokesmen as do Nancy Pelosi and John Murthafu*cer.
What’s a poor liberal to do? ATTAACK ANN COULTER–making her even richer with the attendant froth of publicity.
MaiDee on June 15, 2006 at 9:59 AM
“This machine kills fascists” is not original to Leno’s guest. You can see Woody Guthrie’s guitar here http://www.historylink.org/essays/output.cfm?file_id=3174
I have mixed feelings about this. I do believe that music and pop culture influence political ideas. The music of the 60s had great influence on the anti-war movement. Today when I play oldies I still sing along to songs that I don’t agree with.
However, folksingers did not stop Hitler. Woody Guthrie had concern for the sailors on the Reuben James but it was the G.I.s that did the job.
I am also amused that the left is more likely to identify Bush as a fascist than they would the leaders of islamofascist states.

MaiDee:
I need to add two-
9. Francine Busby loses to Bilbray for the “disgraced” Duke Cunningham seat in CA (I guess the “culture of corruption” thing isn’t too effective…)
10. CA overwhemlimgly rejects tax increases and socialist school progams. CALIFORNIA!
It’s fun when, as Coulter says “the rabbit has the gun” .

Ann always seems to have the situation under control. She understand well that the liberals are “paper tiger” that they will go self combust if you can get them angry enough.
She always can stir up the bees in a beehive, stick her hand in there and get herself a boohoo of honey!..This time is a best seller!
May be that is her game.
easy87us on June 15, 2006 at 10:33 AM
….I love it…’the rabbit has the gun’….I need to write that one down and use it…it is THE perfect statement and describes, so well, this whole situation.
Someone needs to put together a little log of “ANNISMS” like the Rush is Right theory. Not only will the Rabbit have the gun, but the Mouse will have roared and bitten the head off the serpent. I AM LOVING LIFE RIGHT NOW!!!
Sandys Beach on June 15, 2006 at 10:40 AM
Ann is many things, stupid is not one of them. Taking on the likes of Matt L is one thing, she’s too smart to engage Carlin–this is a guy who has made his living by his wits and by being quick and deadly (this is what happens when you start out playing the comedy club circuit–you either get eaten alive or learn to squash hecklers). Too bad in a way, fireworks are always fun!!
honora on June 15, 2006 at 10:49 AM
Dread Pirate…the little black dress is an effective ‘tool.’ In so many cases, with women, the manner in which she chooses to dress may distract the listener..so the little black dress serves to keep you listening, instead of watching the bling or low cut or loud color, etc. I remember the most accurate advice given by Rush Limbaugh so many years ago: turn off the TV and listen to the debates on the radio. Keeps your mind off what the talker is wearing…we all learned this lesson during the JFK/Nixon debates..all people were talking about was the 5:00 shadow on Nixon and how handsome JFK was. The message gets lost….so the little black dress is effectively doing the same thing. I know I got a little winded on this subject…sorry, but I had to make this point. It has been something I have ascribed to for a very long time.
Sandys Beach on June 15, 2006 at 10:54 AM
Sandys Beach, point well taken. But in her case it’s my humble opinion that it’s been taken to the extreme.
After all, intelligence and intellect can shine though just as well wearing a while blouse and blue skirt! But enough of this foolishness! We have a democracy to save!

However, folksingers did not stop Hitler.
As a musician myself, I’m with you mkstach. There’s a reason women can be heard on the airwaves in Afghanistan again, and it wasn’t a bumpersticker or folk song that did it.
You’ve gotta fight for your right to party.
saint kansas on June 15, 2006 at 12:10 PM
I though Carlin was off his game. Pretty tame, perhaps he couldn’t cuss up a storm, or was told, nah, george can’t be told…
Ann was great, somewhat giddy. I was waiting for something Controversal, but it’s didn’t happen.
Overall, a ho hum show.

From yesterdays interview by Jamis Gazov at Frontpagemag.com “This is part of the leftest agenda, put up victims to get the oposition tongue tied”. Ann is right on with her take on the “Jersey girls”. Expose the left! Most people get what Ann’s saying. Michael Smerconish is full of himself. I for one don’t listen to his show here in the Philly area.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on June 15, 2006 at 2:22 PM
MaiDee, I love what you started and NTWR added on. Here a few more morsels:
11. The Zarqawi raid netted such valuable information that so far 400+ raids followed and more are on-going, 100+ terrorists and insurgents killed, al-Qaida blueprints found – a treasure-chest of great info for U.S./Iraq.
12. Iraqis are following the liberals’ mantra and are stepping up the fight (trained by the U.S.) – no issue for Nov.
13. The “Moving America Forward” gathering is a disjointed pool of disunity and lack of leading philosophy. The dems are for raising the minimum wage, reducing the cost of student loans, making prescription drugs less expensive. So what? Comparably, these are ants. Not a platform to win Nov.
14. The House and the Senate are forcing the democrats to be for or against the troops, without separating the issue from the war on terror. The ‘rabbit has the gun’ and the conservatives are still setting the agenda.
15. Spending, slowly but significantly, is being cut.
16. The deficit has declined tremendously due to tax cuts, which stimulated growth and brought in treasure.
17. The facts still trump the MSM’s fiction, defeatist and wishful-thinking-reporting.
18. Mr. Bush’s new cabinet members have inserted new energy and it shows.
19. Karl Rove hasn’t begun the real offensive for Nov. yet.
20. The marches for illegals’ rights have back-fired and amnesty has been put on the back-burner, where it will stay until after the election. The dems will not even think about going there…
21. The presidential podium is still the tallest one and Mr. Bush is showing mojo again.
22. The NSA issue is no longer argued as a breach of anything but as ‘how can we strengthen/clarify it’.
23. “We are more ethical than you” is out. Yes, it goes along with your #3 point.
24. All reps/sens have been reminded/put in place on Mr. Hastert and Ms. Pelosi’s reaction to the Jefferson office raid – a great development to bring them all back to Earth and force them to not be treated differently from the citizens they are supposed to represent.
25. Best of all – the ROW (rest of the World) has realized that they can’t solve anything without the U.S. leading – i.e. total flop of the 3-years European handling of the Iran issue. The dems and ROW can’t have it both ways – ask the U.S. to be multi-everything and blame it when the others can’t get anything done.
Here’s hoping the imperfect conservatives keep their mojo and keep getting in the faces of those who make insane arguments, every time. Hardball in politics is necessary! No one has been more divisive in this country than the Left. 9/11 was just a blip – then they reverted.

As many posters know, for a long long time conservative commentators were basically shut out of mainstream discourse. If their ideas were good, the liberals wouldn’t address the substance, but resorted to calling them old balding fat white males. Or they would comment on other aspects of their appearance of age. That sufficed and the conservative was effective silenced.
On the political level, when conservatives finally gained power in the Senate and House, the liberals found a way to get them removed. People like Tower, Packwood, Gingrich, Livingston, DeLay, and Lott had to step down or take a “demotion” because of the vicious attacks on them.
In essence, conservatives could not mount effective counter attacks against liberals, because the MSM controlled the airwaves, as Ann alluded to.
In time, Limbaugh emerged, and from his example, others arrived. Thankfully, Limbaugh emerged as the internet was coming into being, and then cable TV started catching on. Suddenly, there was more than Rush. We had Hannity, Hume, Snow, and Gibson. Additionally, there arose intelligent and pretty women like Michelle, Ann, and Laura (and Barbara Olson (RIP). Now, the liberals couldn’t make fun of appearances because conservatives would just laugh back at them, and point out goobers like Pelosi, Cynthia Mckinney, Fat Teddy, and all those wretched feminists. You want to play the insult game, fine, we’re locked and loaded! And now, the MSM couldn’t suppress good investigations and it was constantly reminded by bloggers that what a liberal jackass says today, didn’t match what he/she said years ago.
We are so lucky, we are so fortunate that so many things came together at the right time so that our “leaders” could get their messages out, and that we had a means to support them.
So thanks to Michelle, Ann, Laura, Rush, Hannity, Snow, and so many others for standing firm and taking the fire, and hurling it back at the vicious liberal moonbats.

I watched it and was very impressed. She is obviously relying on some canned talking points because she does use some of the same lines in most interviews, but she is quick on her feet with the quips.
She presented herself well, but the friendly audience was a big help. She is typically thrust in front of hostile audiences.
My only criticism might be her somewhat haughty voice.
I am reading the book now, and if you havent, you may want to. The hype about that passage is just that, hype. In context it is much different, and there is far worse in the book that they are ignoring.
She is right when she notes that she is surprised that they zoomed in on just that one section. She is not nice to them in much harsher ways.
That they are so outraged about the Jersey girls comments proves 3 things to me:
1) They have not read the book
2) They have and are scared of it, so they are focusing on this to deflect from the book’s content.
3) By using the Jersey girls as their totem for outrage, they nicely validate the point they are trying to protest.
