[...] Powerline has a post about the options being considered by the group looking at Iraq options. Part of the problem seems to be the kid-gloves way the coalition treats the enemy's unlawful combatants. "Catch and release" has recycled terrorists back to the battlefield because the coalition lacked a legal basis for detaining suspects. Michael Yon's dramatic account of a firefight in Mosul, that nearly cost LTC Erik Kurilla his life, contains this passage:The doctors rolled LTC Kurilla and the terrorist into OR and our surgeons operated on both at the same time. The terrorist turned out to be one Khalid Jasim Nohe, who had first been captured by US forces (2-8 FA) on 21 December, the same day a large bomb exploded in the dining facility on this base and killed 22 people. That December day, Khalid Jasim Nohe and two compatriots tried to evade US soldiers from 2-8 FA, but the soldiers managed to stop the fleeing car. Then one of the suspects tried to wrestle a weapon from a soldier before all three were detained. They were armed with a sniper rifle, an AK, pistols, a silencer, explosives and other weapons, and had in their possession photographs of US bases, including a map of this base. That was in December. About two weeks ago, word came that Nohe

[...] I was watching Ilario Pantano speak at the John Locke Foundation Headliner Luncheon on CSPAN yesterday (if you get to see it, do ~ it was an extremely insightful talk). Pantano mentioned that the number of packages now sent to the troops have fallen by 25%. 25%!!! He also spoke on his belief that America has become so saturated with the MspitSspitMspit constant blitz of the bombings and killings, that people are turning away from the war. (They have that luxury. Our troops do not.) Sadly (for us), he also stated that he’s leaving media touring and (happily for him) putting his energy into his family.
Thanks for doing a Vent on this. I'd not heard anything about the book yet. I saw this Vent up yesterday, but I wasn't able to view it due to technical difficulties on my part. I'm glad I came back to see it. Again, thanks.

[...] The media coverage of the U.S. military has generally been negative since the Vietnam War era. Some of the negative coverage of the Iraq War has intensified in scope and timing because in addition to the medias dislike of the military it hates President Bush with a passion and has attempted in its coverage to bring down his administration. One of the most egregious examples of biased media coverage occurred last year during the trial of 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano. Hot Air has an excellent interview with Pantano. [...]

What a "parfit gentle knight" Lt. Patano is. In a just world, he'd be showered with largess and gratitude. But instead he is hunted by jihadis and scorned by the MSM. Life certainly isn't fair - but sir you have my thanks and respect. May God bless you always.

DriverMike,
I beleive you are a bit off base here.
You did not read "Warlord" So you did not get to see his Acknowledgement and thanks to Savage and other Americans that helped him.
You admit that All you have seen are the sound bites, and you not only rush to judge the Lt, you also tells Michelle (and probaly me) that we can not DARE to question you because "you served for thirty years".
This is the same argument the jersey Girls use.
It is unfortunate that you lost your family because you joined up. I thank you for your service, but that does not mean that I will walk on egg shells around you.

It looks like you just pulled a Murtha with your comments about Lt Pantano. He DOES acknowledge Savage and even your (and others like you) help. But because you did not hear it on the news you are ready to convict him of the crime of ingratitude, and then unjustly compare Michele to the MSM because she points it out?
E-mail me your address. I will send you my copy of Coulters book and Warlord once I have finished it.
Read the books, then make informed comments. If you are going to argue based on what you see on the news and ignore the facts then you are no better then most at the KOS, and I truly believe you are better then that.

Michelle....

I thank you for what you give us here at HotAir....

No I haven't read his book (nor can I afford it), but only hear sound bites (like here and MSM when it is only nano-seconds long….and only for their benefit) -- which does and always will disgust me when thanks are not given where it is do or written words are taken out of context.

I do not have the time nor the money to read books like this or Anne's that do not give proper credit where it is due – because there is an agenda that I or we can’t understand (Liberalism is a mental disorder.....wonder where she got that?) due to limited time in the day. I would rather read books like your’s or Michael Savage’s that go ‘where no one has gone before”.

What I have time and more is for is being a true AMERICAN --- who gave his soul and life for over thirty years to our great COUNTRY (1973-2003), and would do more if given the chance (can you say that??). You are great on the illegal invasion of our country….but really are a cheerleader with Bush and the NSA on wiretapping – (you really should contact me…I will give you an eye opener on this and the other!! Sorry…been there done that with both!!)

What I am saying is like what Anne C is going through now....tell the rest of the story (like Paul Harvey says) instead of sound bites.....it doesn’t do justice for American’s that have no time to read their books but rely on those like you Michelle to give us all in a good synopsis…..and who are trying to defend our Country (and as FOX news says…fair and balanced!)

Michael Savage and his listeners are gearing up for another battle with the Haditha Marines....that have more than what Lt Pantano had on the line -- was he shackled before being charged (no), was the MSM against him (yes), was the brass all the way to the White house condemning him before being charged (no)?? -- and just to say 'thanks' to all in sound bites like this would do wonders for our own moral to continue this ‘enemy within’ battle – as those fighting for his brethren now and months from now!

Michelle....don't ever question me....I joined the military and served 30yrs against my family wishes during Vietnam (and lost them -- did you?) and only to find now it was not outside forces that were bent on our destruction, but only to find the true enemy is within has been doing that for decades.....and if you think an old Vet like me is threatening when he states "be careful Lt Pantano when you don’t thank true grassroots Americans that cared and ensured and (like Michael Savage listeners) who helped you get your freedom……" is a threat...then you too Michelle are just like MSM....

If you think we who don’t agree with you are we are worthless....you are just like the MSM….too bad….. I only wish Ben Franklin and his ‘ilk’ were still around – then I could get the truth…..

DiverMike – Proud American who is very educated…served 30yrs in our military, and knows more than you think!

Michelle….don’t ever question me….I joined the military and served 30yrs against my family wishes during Vietnam (and lost them — did you?) and only to find now it was not outside forces that were bent on our destruction, but only to find the true enemy is within has been doing that for decades…..and if you think an old Vet like me is threatening when he states “be careful Lt Pantano when you don’t thank true grassroots Americans that cared and ensured and (like Michael Savage listeners) who helped you get your freedom……” is a threat…then you too Michelle are just like MSM….

If you think we who don’t agree with you are we are worthless….you are just like the MSM….too bad….. I only wish Ben Franklin and his ‘ilk’ were still around – then I could get the truth…..

DiverMike – Proud American who is very educated…served 30yrs in our military, and knows more than you think!

DiverMike -- With all due respect, sir, I suggest you read Pantano's book and his acknowledgements section, in which he singles out Savage and many, many, many countless Americans who came to his defense, before you pop off.

Regarding Pantano and Haditha: Are you not paying attention to his every interview so far in which he warns against the rush to judgment against the Marines in Haditha? Did you not click on the very first link included above to his May 27th piece lashing back at Rep. Murtha over Haditha madness?

I am disgusted right now, too...with your baseless lecture about ingratitude. "Be careful Lt Pantano." What is that? A threat?

You be careful. I don't want to see crap like that here.

As with the over 10 million weekly listeners to Michael Savage we heard this first there...what disturbs me is that after all of our donations to his defense to make his freedom possible there is nothing here except..."radio and internet users"....well it was the Savage Nation that brought this out first from your Mother's mouth who was desperate -- as we are all doing now with Haditha Marines! (Where are you Lt Pantano with us for them?)

My thanks as a 30yr Military Vet is to see him (and now Haditha Marine Vets of there bondage without charges) free....but be careful Lt Pantano when you don't thank true grassroots Americans that cared and ensured and (like Michael Savage listeners) who helped you get your freedom......

I agree with professor Blather. Lets start grooming this man for political office. We need to find men (and women) of this degree of moral fiber and groom them to be representatives, judges, and civil servants when they return. He needs to be running for Senator somewhere right now.

Prof Blather and others: You beat me to it. What an impressive, intelligent guy this is! I think the more we see of him, the better for our side.

Righard Davis: I knew a lot of great people from Philly, and went out with some nice girls from your city. One of my hangouts in center city in the late 60's and early 70's was Franks the 347 Bar (dirty Franks)at 13th & Pine. Philly was a great town. I remember my father telling me that Joe Clark was the first Dem mayor of Philly in 1950, I was only 3 yrs old then. It was all down hill from there. I come from the Fairview section of Camden, the Jersey side of the W. Wittmann bridge. Thanks for reminding me of Gino's steaks being sued by the city, I just saw the headline over at World Net Daily I will go back to read the story. Yes we do need to get together; anytime, Philly or NJ, maybe we can bring some people together. Talk to you later.

Just heard Pantano on the radia with Hannity. He said "every terrorists that shoots at us or we kill, looks like a civilian, Zarqawi looked like a civilian."

He said, "It takes a village to plant an IED, including women and children, lots of people needed for digging, mapping, reconnisance"

He also said his unit found an IED at 2AM with a flashlight, it was a 500 lb bomb, the wires led to a civilian home,

He said "The saddest part of it was that across the street from the bomb was a new school that was going to open the next day..."

and at the end of the wire, at the house, was a 12 year old boy. When they approached the boy, he said his father had been killed and that "bad guys" were making him do it.

Pantano said the boy was crying and he might have been telling the truth.

Pantano said this is the type of war they are fighting... civilians are the terrorists and vice-versa..

This is totally consistent with what I've been hearing from the Marines I'm friends with and drank beer with during Fleet Week.
