Mother Sheehan: I only support the troops who hate Bush

Support the troops? I support only those who are NOT supporting the exploitation of the Iraqi people, and those who do not allow the war profiteers to carry on with their death and destruction all for the sake of an opulent lifestyle. I do not support those who are supporting a criminally insane and treacherous foreign policy. However I, as the mother of a slain soldier, will do anything I can to support all of them by working to shorten their stay in an unwelcoming country, and bring them home from the quagmire that their so- called commander in chief forced them into.
Emphases mine. Finally the mask begins to slip, just as I thought it might. Let’s see if the nutroots take this as their cue, coming as it does from a woman with “absolute moral authority,” to “refine” their own much-ballyhooed support for American soldiers. Thanks to Dan of MoveOnAndShutUp for the tip.
Watch our Vent today if you haven’t yet. Meanwhile, Newsweek wonders: were the Marines in Haditha hopped up on goofballs?
The wife of a staff sergeant in the 3/1 battalion, who declined to be identified because she doesn’t want to get her husband in trouble, told NEWSWEEK that there was “a total breakdown” in discipline and morale after Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani took over as battalion commander when the unit returned from Fallujah at the start of 2005. (Chessani’s friends in his Colorado hometown defended him as a dedicated, patriotic, religious Marine.) “There were problems in Kilo Company with drugs, alcohol, hazing, you name it,” said the woman. “I think it’s more than possible that these guys were totally tweaked out on speed or something when they shot those civilians in Haditha.”
Bad news all around, especially for the media. Unless Bush was the Marines’ dealer, what good is the story to them now?
Sounds like it’s B.S. anyway:
But Lucian Read, a freelance photographer who spent seven months with Kilo Company, both in Fallujah and Haditha, did not see warning signs. “Their morale wasn’t bad, it was more fatalistic; this is the grunts-get-screwed-every-time,” he said. “They were not happy, not pleased, but not angry, either,” Read said. “Nothing they ever did or said even hinted at this kind of event. I never saw it coming. No one saw it coming.”
Don’t miss Goldstein today either, as he’s busy changing Andrew Sullivan’s diapers.
Update: Spiegel has a slideshow related to Haditha. They slip a shot from My Lai in there for context.
Does a German publication really need to go that far afield for photos of piles of dead civilians?
Update: Hitchens on Haditha:
There is no respectable way of having this both ways. Those who say that the rioters in Baghdad in the early days should have been put down more forcefully are accepting the chance that a mob might have had to be fired on to protect the National Museum. Those who now wish there had been more troops are also demanding that there should have been more targets and thus more body bags. The lawyers at Centcom who refused to give permission to strike Mullah Omar’s fleeing convoy in Afghanistan—lest it by any chance be the wrong convoy of SUVs speeding from Kabul to Kandahar under cover of night—are partly responsible for the deaths of dozens of Afghan teachers and international aid workers who have since been murdered by those who were allowed to get away. If Iraq had been stuffed with WMD warehouses and stiff with al-Qaida training camps, there would still have been an Abu Ghraib. Only pacifists—not those who compare the Iraqi killers to the Minutemen—have the right to object to every casualty of war. And if the pacifists had been heeded, then Slobodan Milosevic, the Taliban, and Saddam Hussein would all still be in power—hardly a humanitarian outcome. People like to go on about the “fog” of war as well as the “hell” of it. Hell it most certainly is—but not always so foggy. Indeed, many of the dilemmas posed by combat can be highly clarifying, once the tone of righteous sententiousness is dropped.

Let’s look at the root cause here: none of the troops have been trained to counter insurgency, because none of Bush’s brain trust (and I use the term loosely) had the smarts to foresee an insurgency. Sure hope Tenet is enjoying his Medal of Freedom.
honora on June 5, 2006 at 2:12 PM
I am with you, Cindy, on one condition. We bring the troops back and place them at the border!
If Bush would do that I would apologize to him for calling him whatever I have called him.
I know, I know…fat chance I have to apologize.
easy87us on June 5, 2006 at 2:18 PM
None of the troops have been trained in counterinsurgency?
Allahpundit on June 5, 2006 at 2:18 PM
Casey Sheehan is unavailable for comment.
Kid from Brooklyn on June 5, 2006 at 2:28 PM
Is there anyone out there who gives one hoot what this nutcase has to say about anything? Anybody?
NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on June 5, 2006 at 2:30 PM
I think Casey is ashamed of his lunatic mom.
speed647 on June 5, 2006 at 2:35 PM
Cindy Sheehan is Miss San Francisco. The prize was one ten-year-old ladies’ razor in like-new condition, a map to a local department store makeup counter, which she promptly lost, and a five-minute phone conversation with Al Franken’s answering machine. The phone conversation will be taped by CNN and played on the evening news.

I have a great idea for a new CNN tv sitcom: Hillary, Cindy Sheehan, Nancy Pelosi and Cynthia McKinney in “Who Gives A Crap”. Ratings to follow. The introduction of the series could be done by Barbra Streisand. Guest appearances by Alec Baldwin and Ed Asner. Tickets available on e-bay. High bid, to this point, .02.
clyde on June 5, 2006 at 2:42 PM
Someone needs to uproot the nutroot Sheehan.
She is disgusting, over the top and just down right
unpatriotic.
Too bad she is in a position to disabuse her freedom
of speech.
quark2 on June 5, 2006 at 2:49 PM
“However I, as the mother of a slain soldier…”
She’s going to ride this train as long as she can. She’s Miss Popularity now. She gets to hang out with all of the people she used to only read about in In Touch Weekly!
She’s disrespecting her son and his fellow soldiers and I know there’s a Special Hell for that.
violet on June 5, 2006 at 3:08 PM
With “absolute moral authority” comes implicit responsibility. Cindy Sheehan, having failed to exercise the latter, has forfeited the former. Its time for her to shut her pie-hole.
inmanjh on June 5, 2006 at 3:11 PM
Guys, if you all understand that Cindy Sheehan has caused more pain to the liberal camp than to us, you will feel better.
When you all feel better and getting to like her, she will stop talking and disappears.
The only harm she can do to us is that she suddenly changes camp and supports Bush! That would be our doomsday!
easy87us on June 5, 2006 at 3:13 PM
Since when have US troops supported Saddam Hussein???
Aunt B on June 5, 2006 at 3:14 PM
I am in favor of basic rights for everyone including freedom of speech. However, if someone comes into my home and states that they hate it here and it is a bad place to be, the privelege of being in my home will be revoked. They can exercise their freedom of speech somewhere else.
I would apply the same logic to certain idividuals who continually express dislike for our country. Just put me in charge for five minutes, I have a list.
DJ Dubya on June 5, 2006 at 3:15 PM
Cindy said, “I do not support those who are supporting a criminally insane and treacherous foreign policy.” Her son re-enlisted in August of 2003 while we were at war, and gainst her will, ergo she did not support her son.
Gee! Thanks Mom.
DannoJyd on June 5, 2006 at 3:23 PM
I’m with you easy87us… the more these moonbats are in the news, the better. She truly is causing the Democrats more angst then you can imagine. Hopefully she can sit next to Michael Moore at the next convention. Deans another loon who will do nothing but but hurt their cause come 2006 and 2008.
Bob Mileti on June 5, 2006 at 3:33 PM
bigA -None of the troops have been trained in counterinsurgency?-
.What does that really mean? Shake their hands, frisk them , then shoot ‘em if they’re carrying bombs or detonators? Will we have a secret handshake soon? Wouldn’t that be a little late when you’re with-in 18 inches of a suicide/homicide bomber? Maybe someone has superman glasses that can see the difference between insurgents and the locals. Heck, an insurgent one minute IS a local 3 minutes later.
….How do armed forces do this counterinsurgency training?
Smile more?
shooter on June 5, 2006 at 3:42 PM
Sheesh. NOW can I question her patriotism?
Prophet on June 5, 2006 at 3:45 PM
Prophet, Cindy is only criticizing the adminstration’s policy and Bush. She has not openly proclaimed that she is against USA. In this aspect, we are doing exactly the ame thing, but on different issues. We are against Bush on the amnesty bill and Cindy is on Iraq.
easy87us on June 5, 2006 at 3:52 PM
At least she doesn’t hide her words, we can easily pin her for being an absolute LLL
Defector01 on June 5, 2006 at 3:52 PM
Prophet, why question what obviously doesn’t exist?
Cary on June 5, 2006 at 3:53 PM
The most disgraceful thing about the unrepentant Nazi Cindy Sheehan is how she turned her son’s casket into a soapbox from which to spew her hate and lies.
DirkBelig on June 5, 2006 at 3:55 PM
Guys, we have it made!
Please do not worry. Imagine if the GOP got drag over to the side that supports the Amnesty Bill and Democrats is against it. Do you think we have a chance then in 2006?
Suddenly , miracles happened! We managed to dumped Bush and fought out under his shadow and formed a coalition against the amnesty bill. Suddenly, the conservative GOP found themselves aligned with 60% of the voters! Somehow magically it happened! Ted Kennedy sealed the Democrats’ fate by proclaiming ” I have a Dream!”. The minorities and the unions seem to disagree with him….LOL
If I tell you that Democrats are worrying about losing seats in 2006 election, would you believe me? BELIEVE ME! THEY ARE IN A PANIC NOW! Do you see how they fight within themselves?
All we need to do now is to reject the Senate bill because it is unconstitutional. Re-introduce the House bill and secure the border. Keep the issues alive and we shall win more seats in November! The more the Democrats fight us the better we shall be.
easy87us on June 5, 2006 at 4:08 PM
Cindy Sheehan is a traitorous, lying, capitalizing fool. She cares about her son only for these reasons:
1) Possible run for political office
2) Her book signing that flopped
3) Possible movie
4) Speaking engagement fees
And oh, I nearly forgot Sheehan’s outstanding use of the money she received for her son’s death: She left his grave unmarked, refusing to spend a dime of “her money” on a headstone for her dead son for whom she claims she grieves.
Casey Sheehan’s dad (who wisely ran from Cindy like she has the plague) said that his son wholeheartedly supported the war. NO WONDER his mother spurns his memory. He’s “one of THEM!”
ForYourEdification on June 5, 2006 at 4:11 PM
There IS a Cindy Sheehan movie in the works. That All-American actress Susan Sarandon is playing her in the movie. I can hardly wait. Perfect casting, as long as Sarandon quits shaving. I’m calling my local theater and reserving tickets today. Oh, wait, I have something else to do…I forgot what it was, but it must have been important…
clyde on June 5, 2006 at 4:23 PM
“all for the sake of an opulent lifestyle.”
Oooops………Hasn’t mother sheehan been living the “opulent” lifestyle at the expense of her son who died with honor and a clean conscience?
darwin on June 5, 2006 at 4:42 PM
Amen, Darwin. Or, perhaps, “opulent lifestyles” funded by George Soros and his ilk don’t count in that rant. If you really concentrate, you can almost hear Casey Sheehan spinning in place.
Kid from Brooklyn on June 5, 2006 at 4:59 PM
hey clyde
if i’d see that movie i’d be hoarse by the end of it from booing so loudly. I’d rather watch Al Gore’s movie
Defector01 on June 5, 2006 at 5:27 PM
The woman is a LOON. Nothing more than that AND I am tired of saying I am sorry about her loss. We all have had losses…but we don’t get on a soap box to cry and scream. Her time is about up..the Hollywood left is even beginning to become bored with this harridan.
Sandys Beach on June 5, 2006 at 6:02 PM
easy87us, Cindy S. is anti-American. Please google “Cindy Sheehan anti-American” – lots of occurrences…Here just one sampling.
http://www.chronwatch.com/content/contentDisplay.asp?aid=16331
Since 2005 she visited the top-nut, Chavez, in Venezuela and spewed more anti-Americanism, standing right besides him.
You and others are right, though. She is the liberals’ embarrassment and we shouldn’t stop her.
Entelechy on June 5, 2006 at 6:03 PM
Folks, don’t get too serious with Cindy Sheehan. She does not worth your anger. Relax! She is funnier than you can imagine if you don’t get angry over her. Sje is screwing up the libral camp now! She is attacking Hillary!!!!!Let she does her job!
easy87us on June 5, 2006 at 6:12 PM
Media whore. Keep spewing your rhetoric, SheeWitch.
That movie with the wretched Susan SaranWrap will not be a theatrical release. It’s to be a Lifetime Channel “movie of the week”. SaranWrappedToTight does not command the roles she used to years ago.
I think I hear Casey turning over in his grave.
doingwhatican on June 5, 2006 at 6:13 PM
I just thought of something that would piss her off into an apopalexy!Imagine if a large group of people were to have a pro war demonstration in honor of her heroic son?
Casey died for his country doing something he beleived in. His mother shats all over his memory and drags him through the filth and offel so she can stand atop his grave and bask in the adulation of the left.
As Easy said, she is hurting the liberals. But couldn’twe give Casey and the other heros that died over seas the respect they earned, and the respect she spurns for them?
Wyrd on June 5, 2006 at 6:49 PM
Wow, I never knew that all those years I had to suffer in JRTC doing LICs that I wasn’t getting counter-insurgency training.
Wow, I am so shocked.
Asshat….
Mortis on June 6, 2006 at 2:33 AM
At least the libs could have come up with a mouthpiece that isn’t as butt ugly as Cindy Sheehan. Not only can I not listen to her but I can’t look at her either without the fear of turning into a pillar of salt.
And those Earth shoes she wears. Criminally repulsive!
Shmo on June 6, 2006 at 10:25 AM
Sigh. Frickin’ Germans.
Would someone please send a memo to the Germans that reads as follows:
Just a couple of generations ago, you people committed the greatest evil in the history of mankind. You started not one but two wars – the first of which was the biggest waste of humanity in all of history, until you started the second. That one led to SIXTY TWO MILLION dead. At least. Read it again. You Germans killed 60+ million people. Never in history has any evil even come close to what you did. In terms of sheer waste and sheer death, you’d have to go back to the Black Plague of the middle ages for something to even compare it to.
You did that, Germans. YOU. My own grandfather helped kick your ass for it. Are you paying attention? It isn’t just the enormous magnitude of your evil that was so historic, it’s the fact that you did it so willfully, so intentionally, so carefully, with such good German efficiency.
It’s going to take a long, long, long time before any place compares to your propensity for evil and murder. Even if every single word of hatred directed at President Bush is 100% accurate, it would take him roughly 10,000 years in office to match what you did. That’s a long time. Truth is, I don’t know if anyone will ever be as evil as you. Ever. In a million years. The world would have been a much better place if America and the old USSR had gotten together and just used your piece of dung country as a testing ground for our new nukes. Your entire nation deserved the death penalty, and you got off way, way light. In fact, your only salvation from the avenging Russians (you killed TWENTY MILLION of them, after all!) was the American military protecting your sorry asses.
So do me a favor, will you? Shut the @%$@$% up. You don’t get to have an opinion on issues of war and peace. Not now and not any time soon. Tell you what: if you haven’t started any more wars and killed another few hundred million innocents in, say, a couple thousand years, then I’ll listen to your opinions. Mmm-kay?
How’s that? You be good, and in the year 4006, we’ll listen to what you have to say. Until then you Nazi fascist world-dominating Jew-murdering master race types just might wanna put a sock in it, okay?
Love and kisses,
The rest of the world
Professor Blather on June 6, 2006 at 11:07 AM
I think a parade in Casey Sheehan’s honor would be a stellar idea, Wyrd! Given the user name and repeated examples of her numbing patriotism, let’s have “honora” lead it.
