Michelle on the former, Greyhawk on the latter.
How many Iraqis will be killed in the next few weeks and months by terrorists eager to make it look like American troops have perpetrated another massacre?
How many gullible media outlets will be only too eager to believe them?
Meanwhile, Slate wants the Marines suspected of the shootings in Haditha to be tried by an Iraqi court.
Update: Outside Baghdad, a poignant reminder of the kite-flying serenity of life under Saddam Hussein.

As a ex Marine, I am not sure I would want to be in the military today. You can’t take a poop without some newsman up your butt worrying you may do something war like. THIS IS A WAR. People die, get over it MSM. We are sure making it easy for our enemy…which I am not sure if the enemy is the terrorists or the media and the democrats. I do not advocate the killing of innocents, but we do not know what took place there and if there may have been terrorists among the innocents. In combat a split second means the difference in living or dying.

Also, some of the killings will be to shake down Americans for monetary settlements.
What works in Haditha should also work elsewhere in Iraq and in Afghanistan and even on the Mexican border. Look for National Guardsmen to be accused of atrocities (rape, torture, theft, even murder) by Mexicans sneaking across the border. With such accusations, the obseqious and wimpy Bush will withdraw the National Guard with groveling apologies to his superior, Vincente Fox.
A new terrorist policy: Use the American press to force Americans into world-wide retreat using the ATROCITY CARD.
MaiDee on June 3, 2006 at 1:36 PM
Speaking of the atrocity card, what ever happened to Cynthia McKinney? She still being “investigated” by the D.C. grand jury, or has her abhorrent behavior again been swept under the rug?

“UK TIMES SMEARS OUR MARINES (UPDATED WITH RESPONSE)
By Michelle Malkin · June 03, 2006 10:49 AM” documents what I believe is blatant fraud by Main Stream Media to influence public policy in favor of Liberal interests.
I do not believe the explanation that MSM madia made a mistake when such fraud is discovered – especially when there is a consistent history of publication of similar material. The conclusion I reach is that publications such as “UK Times” are more interested in providing political propaganda to benefit liberal interests than accurate news reporting.
Supporting news commentary and reporting such as “Hot Air”, at this point, seems to be the most effective method of countering such deliberate fraud. Is there any other way to recognize and label such reporting as is published in the UK Times for what it really is – Propaganda?

Who’s afraid of Mohammed al-Dura?
Pablo on June 3, 2006 at 2:01 PM
I imagine AFP is if Mohammed al-Dura comes back to life.

From the Slate piece:
Doing this would probably be politically idiotic, and maybe even legally impossible…
…but we’ll toss the idea out there anyway, because we support the troops!
Pablo on June 3, 2006 at 3:23 PM
Most of the MSM reporters stay in Bagdad in, “the green zone”, and report old news. The MSM does not want to report any good news, it dosn’t fit into their agenda. The libs like to sit around the hotel lobby sipping cocktails waiting for the next car bomb to go off. The grunts in the field never see these hot shots. If we had a liberal administration, things would be different. Lies, distortion, revisionism, distroy the morale of the troops, and the public back home; thats the game plan of the MSM.

Kudos to Michelle and Joe G for exposing this unconscionable slander.
It would be nice to have a cable news channel devoted solely to holding the MSM accountable for its lies and distortions.

One of our local conservative talk show hosts here in the Seattle area, Brian Suits, served for a year or so in Iraq. He said that the US advertises in papers, radio and all kinds of media that Iraqis are entittled to benefits from the US for any property damage, injuries or deaths. Iraqis are encouraged to come forward and receive payment. Seems like it’d be hard to cover things up in a system like that.

This is a good place for a bit of reality.

Allah, just minor a point on semantics:
eager to make it look like American troops have perpetrated another massacre?
“Another.” When was the first one?
Oops, I forgot. Jesse MacBeth’s massacre. ;-P
bamapachyderm on June 3, 2006 at 9:44 PM
Beth — Yeah, I just saw Vinnie’s post at Jawa Report and wasn’t surprised to find him assuming the worst about me.
My point was that the media has already pronounced the Marines guilty, so any new “massacre” will be seen as another one — i.e., part of a pattern of behavior.

By the way: where does my blasting the Nation for prejudging the Haditha suspects and my defending the military’s accomplishments in Iraq fit into his grand Allahpundit-[hearts]-Khomeini theory? Funny how he managed to overlook those posts.
