Okay, first of all Mexican is not a language and the same goes for Cuban…. one doesn’t speak Mexican or, say, Cuban they speak Spanish.

Secondly, I made my distinction between Mexicans, illegals, chicanos and Mexican Americans; however, I don’t agree with you using the language that you chose, namely: “that nasty Mexicos disease infested people”.

First of all, are you telling me that only Mexicans from Mexico have TB, Hepatitis, Diabetes, etc? I know some caucasians that each have a couple of those illnesses in Texas, your home state.

Btw, people in Spain and people with Spanish roots are also infested with those illnesses, hehe.

ar_basin your argument could be a true representation of this radical group, but I am not a part of that nor do agree with what these radicals are doing.

From what I have learned.. class work and my own history/perception of my own heritage is that Chicanos are a subgroup that have a different cultural than that of Mexicans from Mexico. Different langue, food, they are from Mexico, Chicanos are not. If you choose to call yourself a Mexican-American or Hispanic, or Latina/o or Chicano is up to you. It’s the same as Black, Afro-American, White, Caucasian…. And so on.

All I was trying to do was point out a difference. Because the Mexican illegal’s and this radical group are two different issues and I don’t want us to identify them as the same because its important that we take care of both. Please point me where I went wrong in doing so? I am open to the discussion.

ar_basin: someone I’m close to works in the fields and what you say is right: the ones who speak English or attempt to speak it to the bosses are immediately shunned by the others. Many of the others know English but won’t speak it out of disrespect. Jerks.

The school should be shut down immediately and its administration investigated. If you live within the LA school system and aren’t demanding this, then you are a part of the problem.

And I want to make it clear that Chicanos and Mexican Americans are two drastically different groups. Mexican Americans are hispanics that have been here for more than 2 or 3 generations; say, some 30-50 generations. After the border changed between the US and Mexico they, Mexican Americans, became totally disjoint from Mexico.

They have no family in Mexico or family ties in Mexico. Also, it would be difficult to find that their relatives have married people from Mexico. They don’t cross the border to marry. They’ve never been to Monterrey or El Districto. These people speak English and are totally assimilated. And quite frankly, many that I still know from Texas to California marry Caucasian fiances.

They are embarrassed at the behavior of Illegals and Chicanos (Mecha, LuLAC types). These Mexican Americans, they love wearing Abracrombie and Fitch. Sadly some 50% of them don’t speak Spanish – a necessary skill should they visit Spain someday.

These people are totally disrespected by Illegals and the Mexico Elite (the elite that visit the States to shop for designer clothing) if it is evident that the Mexican America doesn’t know Spanish too well.

Prior to this “2006 Illegal-fest” Mexican Americans were “Gringos or Gringas” just because we didn’t understand Spanish as well as those from South of the Border… However, now… only now, do those Illegals and Foreigners want to stop calling us Gringos and admit that we are hispanics as they are… for their convenience. (Btw, I’m well aware that Illegals, Chicanos don’t like the term “Hispanic”. Put a lid on it. They like to use the term “Mestizo”. Hehe)

A Chicano will enjoy going to a Low Rider car show, a Lulac/Mecha convention, they will even wear a Che Guevarra T shirt and not know anything about his politics or his killings. A Mexican America on the other hand will side with Cuban Americans when Che and Fidel Castro are brought into the convervation.

Mexican Americans are rarely approached by illegals since they carry themselves in a manner that identifies them as assimilated and American. The Chicano will be approached by illegals but will be promptly ridiculed when it’s apparently that they don’t know spanish.

I happen to be a Mexican American that knows spanish well. For you Caucasians – learn the language it’s a great tool.
