Not that it’ll do anything to dissuade the true believers.
ABC says the official announcement will come sometime this afternoon.

This is good to hear. You are right Allah, the “true believers” will not be dissuaded. Most of the media will still condem the marines in Haditha without official results. This is great news for our marines and soldiers.

I really don’t know how this case and the Haditha case will play out once all the facts are in the open. I strongly believe, however, that someone has to confront those who keep saying that the US (and NATO forces in Afghanistan) must follow the “rules of war” even though they haven’t the slightest idea of what those “rules” are.
These two cases provide clear examples of what those rules are, why they exist and why the consequences of not following them are dangerous for civilians and are, shall we say “summary” for violators.
Chief among the “rules” is that their protection is not offered to those who (a) conceal weapons, (b) disguise themselves as civilians and (c) do not themselves adhere to those rules.
In these cases, and as NATO forces are finding in Afghanistan, the enemy is indistinguishable from the civilian population, hides weapons and uses unarmed civilians as human shields. These tactics are all violations of the so called “rules of war”. The “rules” were devised, in part, to protect civilian populations from such conduct. The result is that violators are not entitled to be treated as prisoners of war. Those who call for western troops to adhere to the “rules of war” in their treatment of the captured are, in effect, calling for their summary execution.
In the Ishaqi case I am sure we will hear that the enemy was hiding in and around the civilians. They look like civilians. (the comment that there was a dead man in the AP video means nothing…he could have been a fighter or a civilian). I am willing to bet that, when the whole story about Haditha comes out, there was at least an element of that in the mix. I am not saying that justifies a breakdown of discipline but, in light of the professionalism of those soldiers, it is obvious that something happened.
I firmly believe that strong points must be made, loudly, about how the tactics used by the Iraqi (and Taliban) enemy has an impact on what “rules of war” actually apply.

so this means that the men involved can file slander and defamation suits against Mumra -I-mean- Murtha now?
CrazyFool on June 2, 2006 at 5:48 PM
those same true believers think we have concentration camps set up in Cuba and that Halliburton caused 9-11 and the Israelis give poisoned candy to Palestinian children when they’re not remaking the AIDS virus to genetically target arabs while giving all Jews around the world an AIDS vaccination (got mine yesterday :-D).
The fact remains that these ‘true believers’ are a bunch of idiots and that outside their own cluster of cult members, no one gives two cents of their opinions.

Oops! Got my media-hyped-stories mixed up. Never-Mind….
CrazyFool on June 2, 2006 at 5:56 PM
The ABC News story is very interesting. It seems that much of the pictoral evidence came from an AP photog named Hameed Rasheed. A quick search indicates that Hameed has taken several provocative photos that discredit official accounts.
Limited information is available about Hameed Rasheed but it sure smells like Pallywood in Iraqi headgear.
dung.

Quit questioning their patriotism. They support the troops, but…

Has anyone cleared President Carter of his evil acts yet?

Nothing pleasant ever happens in a war. Yet, the libs/dems want to win this war without fighting.
We need strong political and military leadership.
We gotta get this war won.
doingwhatican on June 2, 2006 at 8:03 PM
Truly good news but; -A)It wont last long & -B) it shouldnt have to be this way.
.But like other stories;i.e.
Ahmed Hussein Dabash Samir al-Batawi who confessed to “hundreds of beheadings”
It is a very sad situation we have when US marines can be accused of “cold blooded murder” before their trial is complete. Yet, a real cold blooded devil is arrested and it goes mostly unnoticed.

I noticed it NTWR. Great post on a story I would have likely missed. Now how do we have him prosecuted for treason?
horsepower_1st on June 2, 2006 at 9:34 PM
MSNBC won’t like to hear this.
Now thw Iraqi leader wants to launch his own “investigation” of Marine atrocities. Without Army and Marines his comic opera government wouldn’t last 5 minutes.
Kipling once wrote a poem about ‘Tommy Atkins’ (typical British soldier).
“It’s Tommy this and Tommy that
and ‘chuck ‘im out, the brute’
but it’s the ‘ero of the country
when the guns begin to shoot.”
MaiDee on June 2, 2006 at 10:20 PM
great!!!
however msm will not let up…they want to cause as many problems as they can. remember tet.
the v.c were almost wiped out during tet, yet by the time msm were finished it looked like we were defeated!!!
it worked once….
if they have their way,our forces will become so bogged down with restrictions they will be unable to operate as an effective force
mike hale on June 2, 2006 at 11:00 PM
Thanks horsepower_1st.
I have the same question. But I think liberalism has deleted the word “treason” from the English language along with sedition.
I honestly don’t know how anyone would be brought up on charges. It’s never happened in my lifetime.
NTWR on June 2, 2006 at 11:27 PM
Doingwhatican,
No offense, but I think you really need to change your paradigm. You have been doped by the MSM to believe we have not won this war! Are you smoking something? What part of this war we have not won?
Did the enemy still have an arm force?…NO
Did we abolish their government? Yes….Saddam is on trial.
Did we establish a new government? Yes
WE WON THE WAR LONG TIME AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are there insurgents? Yes. But Germany had insurgents 4 years after 1945, and they still have Neo Nazi today!
Are insurgents a serious problem? Hell no! The amount of violence in Iraq is less than what we have in the ghettoes of this country! Did you hear the news that some punks just took out a family of 7?
Now go back to your meditation corner and recite after me…WE WON THE WAR ALREADY! 200 times or until you have accepted the reality.
Now don’t you feel better?
Have a nice day.
easy87us on June 3, 2006 at 12:09 AM
mike hale, say rather that if those in charged allow it the MSM will have our soldiers tied up in so much red tape they would not be effective.
In this case it takes two to tango – the MSM to lie and cheat and those who won’t tell the treasonous MSM to go to piss up a rope. (hear me Whitehouse? Republicans?)
We should shoot and distribute videos (in full color) of what the brave ‘lions of Islam’ do with women and children. The victims of the carbombs and the homoside killers.
CrazyFool on June 3, 2006 at 12:19 AM
“Nothing pleasant ever happens in a war. Yet, the libs/dems want to win this war without fighting.”
Actually, they don’t even want us to win.

NTWR:
I know, sir… it is like we are living some horror episode of the Twilight Zone. I honestly had never considered the possibility of the legislative and judicial branches actually, blatantly, publicly and intentionally turning their backs on the rule of law in this country. Treason, sedition and open violation of enforcement of our existing immigration laws just gets a pass. We all are branded ‘racists’, ‘bigots’, ‘paranoids’ and ‘extremists’ if we say a word in defense of those laws.
It is hard to wrap your mind around what is now reality and such a smack in the chops to those who died for this country. What a sad demise.
Paranoids have real enemies, too.
horsepower_1st on June 3, 2006 at 12:42 PM
This is wonderful news.
However it won’t make a bit of difference to the moonbats, they’ll keep right on believing it happened.
Abigail Adams on June 3, 2006 at 2:52 PM
Easy does it, easy87us. I DO believe we are winning this war. I am disgusted with the media and the leftists hatred for President Bush. The lies they present as fact have turned many American people against our military. Many people still get their news from the Old Media.
This past year has been a difficult one. President Bush is really the only one who can give speeches the country needs to hear. I wish he would do that much more often.
The leftists and the media will continue to heap lie upon lie.
I suppose I’m feeling a bit frustrated and hopeless.
