That ridiculous snip with Gwynneth (Did I spell it wrong? Do I care) and Cameron what’s-her-face had me sitting here with my mouth hanging open.
You have GOT to be kidding. Those two wasted more energy and causing more pollution MAKING THEIR COMMERCIAL than I do in a year. The private jets and giant SUVs THEY drive everywhere do more enviromental damage in a day than I do in a decade.
And they’re lecturing me?
Seriously - how do they embrace such mind-boggling hypocrisy with a straight face? I suppose it does prove their acting skills …
Professor Blather on May 26, 2006 at 10:10 AM
Geez Michelle, I wish you could take a lesson from Cameron and Gwyneth and not be so patronizing. Treat us like adults!
I’d like to drive a Prius, but as a conservative, I need an SUV; you know, to carry all my guns and haul the bodies of all the undocumented workers I catch crossing the border.
/sarcasm
You know, besides voting Republican, I do unplug my phone charger, use fluorescent bulbs in my house, turn off my computer monitor, keep the heat at 68 all winter (for the kids), and walk to the train stop and take mass transit to work every day. Why? So I can afford to pay my taxes, fool.
Meanwhile, my liberal friends drive a Honda…and a Saab…back and forth between Texas and New York twice a year between their two homes. But here in my Blue city my wife takes her SUV in to have the wipers checked, and the kid at the counter asks, “Do you really need to drive an SUV?” Gee, kid, do you really need all those teeth?
And Al, you had eight years in the White House to save the planet. Game over, thanks for playing.
saint kansas on May 26, 2006 at 10:12 AM
Nicely said Michelle; you summed up the many faces of lefty hypocrisy on the environment nicely…I don’t know if I can forgive you for putting in that commerical with Cam Diaz and Gwynenetheth (whatever) Platrow. I…I think I am now 5% more stupid, for having watched it..I could feel brain cells..dying in my head. that had to be one of the hokiest, most asinine things I’ve ever seen brought to tv..and that is saying….a WHOLE lot. Those two don’t need to shut up and act..they just need to shut up and go away. Thanks for another good vent. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.
austinnelly on May 26, 2006 at 10:16 AM
Watching that video clip was a great way to start my Friday. I had no idea about those patronizing commercials from Tweedle dee and Tweedle DUMB. Hysterical!
Can’t wait to amuse myself further by reading the reactionary site that opposes everything Malkin.(I’m not giving the site because I don’t want to generate traffic) Honestly, I can’t tell you how funny (absurd?) I think it is that someone gets up everyday to see what Michelle Malkin is saying so that he/she has something to respond TO. Here’s an idea: think of your own material.
Anyway, loved the video. Not only for the entertainment, but because it made me aware of how hypocritical the whole “green” movement is.
Leiren on May 26, 2006 at 10:19 AM
Best part of the vent: the fact that Gore and his sheeple DROVE a frickin’ half mile in a motorcade. That is just priceless.
Ya know … it would be awfully interesting to find out the results if someone could magically collect pollution data on every single American - and then examine it by who they voted for in 2000. I think the results might be very, very amusing.
Of course, it might not be fair - since the loony libs in Hollywood are probably throwing the average way off for Gore voters. I’d love to know exactly how much pollution Huffington or Sarandon or Gore himself actually causes in a year.
I ask again - how to they preach this stuff with a straight face?
Professor Blather on May 26, 2006 at 10:24 AM
Where did you get that clip Michelle?
I thought those anti-tobacco ads were the silliest. You know, the ones where they show cool-looking kids posing as a voiceover declares, “The tobacco companies don’t care about you because…….”
But the reality of being lectured by Cameron and Gweneth is….surreal!
….”Hi, we’re actors! In other words we’re faking it ALL THE TIME! But not now! Now we’re being serious!”
And I have to wonder why, when Cameron mocked G.H.W.B. saying, “Read OUR lips”, she decided to use an…….African American accent? What’s up with that?
Gault on May 26, 2006 at 10:25 AM
A convenient lie…
I’m so fed up with the global warming hysteria. It’s even more frustrating because it IS something that we should be having serious discussions about. We clearly need to keep a close eye on current and future data. We clearly need to look at ways to offset the unstoppable industrial growth in the world…that is IF we really are able to get beyond the propaganda and convince ourselves we are the sole cause.
Gore and the rest are playing into the self-loathing, guilt-seeking media frenzy. Either the truth is losing to propaganda, or Chicken Little needs to turn over the reigns to a more believable spokesperson.
MT on May 26, 2006 at 10:30 AM
By the way ….. am I the only one here old enough to remember the Global COOLING hysteria of the mid-1970s? When Time Magazine declared an impending new Ice Age?
Too funny.

I think people forget, Gore actually was out of a J O B when Clinton picked him for VP. The people of the Great State of Tennessee had finally had enough of him and voted him OUT of office! If it werent for Clinton, Gore would have faded to black long ago.

Most Excellent Vent!
Watching the Elitist lecture US about our SUVs. Talking about turning the bedrood lights out when they leave (to go cross country in their private Gulfstream’s to attend a party and fly back — Two hummeryears!).
Almost as hypercritical as Presdent Fox.
BTW: Michelle’s much better looking then either of those two clowns.
CrazyFool on May 26, 2006 at 11:35 AM
OK, I’m still not done venting.
I really do believe global warming hysteria is a bizarre combination of egomania and self-loathing. That is, so many environmentalists seem to have this idea that, up until the very first human left a footprint, nature was in perfect balance, will all the little critters holding hands and singing (an agnostic version of) Kumbaya. A furry little beaver gnaws down a tree and builds a dam to reroute a river, and that’s exactly what needed to happen for the good of all living things. Man cuts down a tree to build a house and, well, he can’t cut it down ’cause friggin’ Joan Baez is “occupying” it. And there’s the egomania. I can’t tell you if you’ll need an umbrella later today, but I’ll be damned if I’ll let you alter the temperature of the entire planet.
Earth is somewhere around four and a half BILLION years old. As far as we know, dinos roamed the surface for 150 MILLION years. Written human history dates back a couple thousand years. My tolerance for Gwyneth Paltrow lasted about 20 minutes. And now every time the weather changes, some clown says, “That’s global warming.” We sure had a lot of snow last winter. “Yeah, that’s global warming.” I hear it’s supposed to rain this afternoon. “Yeah, that’s global warming.”
Except, or course, for Hurricane Katrina, which Bush himself caused.
saint kansas on May 26, 2006 at 11:36 AM
Bush DID NOT cause Katrina!!! Man, I hate that.
It was Karl using Halliburton’s giant invisible Atlantic Hurricane Fan. Get it right!

When I was 16-18 in 1987-9 I was “active” in leftwing circles in the Netherlands (mainly because it provided me with government subsidized train tickets from my northern village to Amsterdam, I know, it’s weird…). I’ve always had the feeling I was right there at the birth of the entire global warming myth.
Socialists and communists had been losing elections for a decade. They were transforming into “greens” in the years leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1989 the scare story was still acid rain and the ozone layer, but global warming obviously had more America-blaming potential.
BTW, in the early Middle Ages Britain produced wine that could compete with wine from mainland Europe. The climate was much warmer then.

You have to understand that, to those urban athiests that do not have a way to worship, they have turned to environmentalism as a new religion. To convince an eco-religionist that he is wrong about his convictions is like trying to tell a Muslim that Mohammed was a pig farmer.
They believe what they believe down to their bones. Michael Crichton said it best in a speech here:

speed647 on May 26, 2006 at 1:27 PM
Wonderful vent, Michelle! :-D
As you have pointed out, it is all about DOUBLE STANDARDS.
Cameron Diaz, Gwen Paltro and whomever else believe that we use suv, own a car or truck with a V8 engine, etc., we automatically are careless, callous, and need to be lectured. But, then THEY burn fuel for the reasons that you stated, Michelle, THEY are doing it for a worthy cause (usually themselves), or it is somehow justified.
To think that many of us do not conserve is a foolish assumption on their part. If I cannot reach my destination by car, bus, or train, then I stay the flaming hell home. If I take a jet plane, it is because I have no choice. I do not use a giant size SUV to drive across the street for a loaf of bread.
Oh, yeah, Cam and Gwen, it sounds nice that you remember to shut off the light when you leave the room, but how does that wonderful act of conservation compare to THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE ENERGY that your large homes in your exclusive neighborhoods burn on a minute by minute basis?
The Earth goes through cycles of warming and cooling. I recall a few scientists saying that the Earth is only now coming out of a mini-ice age. I would not disagree that the burning of fossil fuels can add to causing some damage to the environment…it probably does. Should we conserve? Yes. Should we develop alternate fuels? Yes. Should we be more environmentally minded? However, we must also remember that the Earth does go through cycles and has the ability to recycle and heal itself. After all, it is a living planet.
I remember during the 1970’s when Earth Day was in full swing and visions of Woodstock danced in many of our heads (forgive me, Michelle ;-) ), a Native American girl told me that we must always be mindful of the Earth and the things it can provide us, but we must also remember that humans should never be sacrificed for the sake of the environment.
Now, does that mean that everything should be destroyed, polluted, burned, and trashed so that someone could build a new condo? HELL, NO!!! But, we cannot shut down our industry totally and our way of life suddenly as if hitting a brick wall straight on. By common sense, temperment, and a realistic approach to our needs and to discovering alternative sources to our needs is the way to approach our energy conservation/environmental concerns, I believe. Solar, wind, water (hydro), nuclear fusion and fission. It is all there. The time has come to use them to the fullest potential.
The destruction of a city, the termination of jobs, the relocation of people, the shutting down of watering capabilities to farms, the declaration of grass and hay to be an endangered botanical species thereby preventing ranchers from feeding their cattle, etc., in order to ensure that the non-earlobed, one nostriled, vermillion haired, trigenital, infrared, subterrainian, invisible flying squirrel can have an environmentally friendly place to go to the bathroom is too much of a price to pay to be environmentally correct.

It’s nice to see that the American tradition of inane Public Service Announcements by celebrities is being continued with the same serious dignity that has given insomniacs everywhere that warm fuzzy glow for the last 50 years.
GwynCam (Maybe I shouldn’t pair them like that…It sounds less like a grouping and more like a tool used to film porno) may have their hearts in the right places, but the “giggling like a nine-year-old at a slumber party approach” reeeeally doesn’t help the message. As for the hypocrisy of it, I’d really have to follow the gossip sheets more to judge their true nature…
I’d really like to find fun, more creative ways of killing off the brain cells I have allocated to keeping current.
As for Captain Planet (Anyone with kids of a certain age had to be on the FLOOR after that one), I’d just as soon lead by example and leave him out of it. With any luck, when it comes to considering him for any important position in the future of this country, everyone else will too.

Oh I see. It’s Ok for them to lecture us like they are the supreme authority on the subject. Shame on us for not being more like them? What contemptible BS!
Hmmm, I think I remember in the 1980’s something about global cooling? But with no real scientific evidence in either direction, the only recourse is what history, long term history, has shown us. The earth goes through cycles. That seem pretty evident. At least if they do the research, but that’s too easy and doesn’t give the answer they want to hear. I guess that’s why they call it forcasting.
Maybe it’s the Oprah theory, if you say it enough, they’ll believe it’s true? But alas, the idot meter is running and there doesn’t seem to be an end to the line of hypnotized fans drooling over these celebrity boobs. Real or intentional.
What no one seems to point out it that Mother Nature is also responsible for climate changes, if any. What about the volcanoes around the globe that are expelling “Green House Gases”?
What about emerging countries like China and India. Their need for more fossil fuels is coming online like the USA was in the 1950’s? Plus they have no environment regulations, as far as I know.
But Noooooo! My advise - Stick to entertaining you boobs and boobets, read your scripts and act your lines, cause yacking yer trap off just makes you look like the foolish morons you are.
Good, I feel better now! Ok Breathe….

Michelle,
Gore and his Hollywood friends have to talk about something.
It doesn’t matter what it is, they just pick up something controversial, anything that puts them back on the front pages, on the nightly news, on your vent, everywhere.
It is called eagerness to be a celebrity all the time, or to make a comeback, to be the talk of the media.
You find them where disasters are. Whether an actual disaster is ON or not.
This is typical Hollywood. And Al Gore learned to be a Hollywood stunt.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Two young ladies at the pump next to me, topping off a Mini, felt the need to comment that it is my fault, for driving such a gas hog. If I would just be more economical, etc etc. Mind you this is a company vehicle, corporate logos all over it, with equipment in the back, tool bins on the side….a work truck! I just looked at them, paused for a moment, and commented when they get a job and stop sponging of Mom and Dad, and need a specific vehicle to earn a living, come talk to me about conservation…Really makes me wonder what they are teaching in school these days.

Another great vent (have there been any bad ones?). My only complaint with the vents is that Michelle begins every one like Fonzie: “Heyyyy, I’m Michell Malkin…”. Nitpicking, I know.
BTW, the worst hypocrisy with the crowd that tells us driving SUVs enables terrorism is that they will also call you a “fascist”, “hate monger” who is “intolerant” if you criticize the Islamists we buy our oil from. Wait a minute…if driving an SUV enables Islamic, oil-selling terrorists, why can’t I say that Islamic oil-sellers are terrorists? *scratches head*

jaleach on May 26, 2006 at 4:24 PM
I remember one of the left wings ads on Ms. Malkin’s Vent today. It was the one that dealt with the security threat posed by our use of gasoline. In it, they made many statements such as “I funded a terror attack today” or “my SUV enabled Osama to…”
This is probably the area where their arguments seem to have a ring of truth to me. The fact of the matter is that some of the money that goes from our pockets when we buy gas goes to the Saudi’s, who then pump that money right back into spreading their islamo-fascist views throughout the world.
Regardless of the fact that this viewpoint sometimes comes from people like Michael More and his ilk, it doesn’t negate the fact that there is some truth to that argument.
When people start going on and on about we need to stop using gas because “Mother Gaia is in pain” or that we are destroying the planet and we need to get more in touch with our inner “patchouli” or some such bilge, I just roll my eyes and dismiss it as incoherent babble.
But when I hear talk about how the Saudi’s are spreading their doctrine with the money they make from the sale of their oil, I take notice. To me, that seems understandable.
So, do I think that driving a SUV is going to help cause the Earth to become an uninhabitable hell due to global warming? No. But I do want to reduce as much as possible the flow of money to those whose goal seems to be to destroy us. If that means we start buying less Saudi oil because we build nuclear power plants, fine. If we do the same thing by passing laws that require us to increase the average fuel efficiency of cars sold in the U.S. like the feds did in the 1970’s, fine. If that means we buy more oil from Mexico and drill in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, and the California coastline, fine.
Bottom line is, as long as it means we are sending less money to our enemies, I am probably for it. It all comes down to the GWOT. Less money for the Saudi’s in my mind helps our GWOT.

Yup - it’s true. For years and years the left was telling us about the next ice age (and if I recall correctly, ironically enough some were suggesting that fossil fuel emissions were hastening the arrival of the glaciers …)
So I took a nap one day, woke up … and it had morphed into global warming.
Now wake up, people: it’s a FULL DEGREE warmer on average than it was when McKinley was assassinated. By the year 2300, it will only be -58 in January in Fargo. Oh - the humanity!
Any day now we’ll be surfing the waves off Alaska.
Sigh.
Is it just cruel to tip the moonbats off about the fact that no matter how many trees they hug or SUV dealerships they burn, the planet Earth is due to fall into the sun in about 5 billion years?
Well … at least it will be clean, shiny, and ozone-free when it melts into a blob, nothing surviving but Cameron’s implants.

Gore and his Hollywood friends have to talk about something.
————————————-
I’ve always found it ironic for people, who get millions of dollars to pretend to be someone else in front of a camera, to make movies about those “evil” CEOs and their salaries.
Was Cameron DeAss the one who went on Oprah and claimed that, if reelected, President Bush would make rape legal?

Since Michelle’s passed the screen test already and Defector01 has brought up Ann Coulter, can anyone else think of a third for Charlie’s Angels 3: Right Hook?
Let’s not forget about casting Charlie.

Batperez, unless I’m losing my touch, I would say the vehicle being fueled is a Chevy Lumina. Very impressed by that fact..although a little surprised. In my (albeit limited) dating experience, the more petite the woman, the larger the car she drives..if Michelle is taller than 5′2, I will buy a Che Guevara t-shirt, and attempt to eat it. Cheers everyone.
austinnelly on May 26, 2006 at 9:29 PM
Sure sure, vent vent. Two points, and then you can get back to the hilarity:
One: It would be refreshing to visit here and read substantive comments about the issues rather than so many weak attempts at ‘Robin williams’style quips.
Two: More refreshing yet would be to see the views of ‘Liberals’ and even ‘Hollywood Liberals’ answered, point by point, with solid factual reasons why they are wrong. Calling the actresses skanks, insulting their talent should be beneath you. So, they have an opinion and world view. So do you. So they use their celebrity to try win people to their cause. If you had celebrity, YOU would be out there stumping for your causes. In a way, that is exactly what Michelle does here at Hot Air,and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I totally disagree with the beliefs of both Paltrow and Diaz, especially Paltrow…but if I expect my opinions to be respected, I must respect others also.
Doug on May 27, 2006 at 2:19 AM
I can see your point Doug, but this is not a debate site. Debate boards have been tried, and their are still many out their. They usualy degrade into juvenile bickering and kindergarden style insults by the 3rd post.
This comments section is more along the lines of a place where like minded individuals can gather and post about what they think of a certain issue. Pass along information, share anecdotes and generaly thank Michelle and Vent for creating an outlet where we feel our views are represented, mainly because main stream media ignores them.
As for Substantive, I have copied BelchSpeaks link to an essay by Micheal Crichton (from above) which pretty succintly sums up the problem with the extreme envirementalist.
http://www.crichton-official.com/speeches/speeches_quote05.html
And why is insulting the actresses “beneath” anyone? Although I would not insult them, I am not elitest enough to think that conservatives are a higher class of people then liberals, and as such are above being human. Some people attacked the actresses. So what? Why is their opinion of the actresses any less important then the actresses hypocrissy?
When it comes to opinions, everyone has one and is entitled to it. And the “atacks” have been extremely tamed. Far more restrained what I have seen on Liberal web sites where Michelle is likened to ” some slope eyed whore turning tricks and su…” well, you get the picture. You want to debate liberals then go to the liberal boards, they will be more then happy to deconstruct anything you post.
Wyrd on May 27, 2006 at 3:26 AM
If you had celebrity, YOU would be out there stumping for your causes.
But they’re not stumping for their cause. They’re stumping for what they want people to think is their cause, before they jump back in their Hummers and drive to the airport to get on their private jets.
That’s why they’re wrong, IMHO.
Pablo on May 27, 2006 at 7:12 AM
First, Pablo… that’s genius. This must happen.
And Doug, I understand your point, and since Hot Air is still in its infancy there’s room to refine the overall tone. However, three points:
(1) Allahpundit is in the house and therefore the humor will be relentless and brutal and brilliant. Peace be upon him.
(2) Hot Air was founded on a basis of videocasting, and due to the production effort involved and the constraints of web streaming, the clips will have to be short and sweet. Take comfort that each Vent is at least as substantive as any “in depth” network news story, and they’ve got a half-hour and a global organization at their disposal.
(3) A lot of the cheap shots are borne of frustration. Diaz and Paltrow have easy access to a nationwide soapbox that we’ll never share, and last I saw, neither one was riding the commuter train with me and soliciting my solid factual reasoning. And if the vice president himself can make some “extra-chromosome wing” comment and get away with it? If he wants to wrestle in the mud, count me in; but understand that he was there first.
That said, National Review has a great cover story this week rebutting Gore’s movie. Better yet, it’s printed on a dead tree.
And… if anyone ever compares me personally to Robin Williams, I can’t be held responsible for my actions.
saint kansas on May 27, 2006 at 7:14 AM
Fair enough, saint kansas. I have nothing against humor-as a matter of fact, I appreciate humor so much that it bothers me to see such weak examples of wit in post after post.
Allahpundit is funny-why should everyone try to ‘top’ him?
As for the Robin Williams comparison-I didn’t mean the sit-comic actor of “RV”-but the early ’80’s Tonight Show guest who never shut up. He was always trying to top himself, and sometimes he succeeeded.

The cost of running my a/c in Texas Heat: $400
Watering my lawn three times a week during a water shortage and drought: $200.00
Weekly gas bill: $150.00
Running over Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow in my Hummer: PRICELESS

DAT60A3,
I lived in Houston all my life up until last year - unless you have a house that was built in the 30’s or 40’s with attic fans, tall ceilings, lots of windows that create a cross breeze and transoms, i don’t see HOW you can live without a/c. My dad grew up in Houston way back when, but he said it was no big deal without a/c because homes were built differently. Maybe if homes were built with energy efficiency in mind, we COULD turn off our a/c in Texas.
xoxo

Robin Williams’ appearance along with Jonathan Winters on the Tonight Show is one of the top 2 or 3 most absolutely gut-busting hilarious moments in TV history. Johnny Carson couldn’t even speak and spent enormous effort just trying to remain in his chair and keep from drooling.
We should be so funny. ;-)

Michelle you hit this right on the nose.
Remember if Gore doesn’t get the Presidents Job then he just found some more money to feed his fat face with these(idiot scientist that also need a job).
They see the Green alright*** MONEY***that is.
And not their money but ours..
I love my a/c running ,car runs all the time ,tv still on ,monitor still on…lights…etc. just because ha ha !

The truth of Global Warming and how fear mongering is used can be found in Michael Crichton’s book “State Of Fear”
It’s also funny how these Lefty Celebs drive a hybrid preaching their saving the world while living in mansions that don’t save the world.

Gore, Gore, what is he good for? I plan to drive my SUV for another 5 years and then buy another one.
Redblock on May 27, 2006 at 6:45 PM
By the way, does anyone really care what Cameron Diaz thinks or says? She who loved and married Dennis Rodman and was abused by him? Her judgement is obviously impaired.
Redblock on May 27, 2006 at 6:56 PM
The absolute stupidity of these ‘greenies’ is amazing! Take Mr. hey-u.n.-here’s-money (Ted Turner) - he bought lots & lots & lots of acerage in New Mexico. But, in order to reduce methane gases - he put BUFFALO on the ranch rather than beef cattle. Say what?
These ‘greenies’ preach but do not practice because it would interfere in their lives. We, the ‘little people’, are the ones who need to hear them, believe them, and do exactly what they say. Oh yeah, like that’s going to happen!
Don’t y’all all feel proud that some idiot who makes millions for PRETENDING feelings can tell us - who have actual, real feelings - how to think, act, and of course, spend our hard-earned money?
Last but not least in MY vent: why do these people only preach their garbage in the U.S.? Stand on the mountain in El Paso Texas (or any US/Mexico border city) and look at the pollution coming across from Mexico as they burn everything they can! Look at the pollution in other countries - get controls in place to bring them even CLOSE to where the U.S. is, THEN maybe I will listen.
Until then, greenies, sit down & shut up!
And to all parents out there - to paraphrase a c&w song - Momma don’t let your baby grow up to be a liberal!
!

This is all tooooo funny. Paltrow and friend think we care. Had to go to the pics of BS’s cottage by the sea. Seems to me she has NOTHING to complain about. What a teensy bit of a place, BABS honey, you can find anyone’s home on MapQuest, just like yours. It’s not our fault that you are so friggin rich and famous, and you can afford all the glitz that comes with being the above. For therapy, why don’t you find pictures of some of your fans…check out the digs they live in…nothing to compare with your palace…most of us live in two, maybe three bedrooms, no pool with maids quarters and perhaps are taking care of a sick relative to boot. And, I won’t even go into apartment living in Brooklyn and New YAWK.
Babs, think back to your roots and stop the whinning…not good for the image. Anyone care to guess what the fuel consumption on that littel shack costs?????
LIBERAL HOLLYWOOD STARS a/k/a MINDLESS JERKS with too much time and money!

Gee, while we are flying coach and riding metro, our humble liberal passionate Democratic snators are flying their private jets around the country celebrating the sacrifice of our soldiers in making their life barely tolerable. Kennedy has a nice jet. Kerry has a nice jet. Jesse Jackson has his 737 but owned by Frontier!…LOL…May be this is the race card the Demos are looking for.
And Gore, how can we forget Gore? He got his VIP treatment in middle east and came back with pocket full of changes to finance his bashing of our consumption of fossil fuel. In the meantime, he did not quite support building the wind farm out the coast where Kennedy lives. I wonder why.
So much for venting today.
Have a nice Memorial Day.
We are so deep in debt to our soldiers that we should make every day a Memorial Day in our heart. This is the best way I found that can keep my moral up in fighting the liberals on the border/amnesty issues.
