Muhammad, Malvo and Jihad

Michelle has a terrific post up at her solo blog–you should take the time to read it. Suffice it to say that John Muhammad’s and Lee Malvo’s plans fit the jihad mold much more than they fit what became the mainstream explanation for their actions, which was the Muhammad wanted to terrorize his ex-wife. And suffice it to say that, once again, our broken illegal immigration system played a significant role in the mayhem. And, that in the years since, nothing has been done to prevent another catch-and-release alien from killing Americans.

Bit of trivia: At one point, police found Muhammad and Malvo sleeping in a car in Baltimore. The police at that time were still looking for white suspects in a white van or truck, and the two didn’t fit that profile at all so police merely talked with them before leaving them alone. My office at the time was less than a mile from where Muhammad and Malvo were sleeping. According to Malvo’s testimony, they were planning on expanding their jihad into the city. Even though we didn’t know that at the time and didn’t know they were sleeping nearby, even in Baltimore you always looked around and over your shoulder any time you walked across a parking lot or pumped gas into your car. So Michelle’s right–those of us who lived in the snipers’ zone remember that time like it was yesterday.

The family of 12-year-old Hani Saadoun has been traumatized by that reality since his tortured body, mutilated by electric drills, was found on Tuesday. They had been in a state of fear since he failed to return home for lunch a day earlier.

Saadoun’s body was found dumped in southern Baghdad’s violent, mostly Sunni Arab, district of Dora. It bore the hallmarks of sectarian tit-for-tat killings that have exploded since the bombing of a Shi’ite shrine in February.

The youngster, with a bullet hole in his head and another through the chest, was blindfold and his hands bound. He had been whipped with cables, tormented by electric drills and his body dragged through the streets behind a car.
