[...] If you’re looking for good news here, you’ll have to look hard. The only upbeat note is that that 59% is down from 66% last June. But the 66% in June was up from 61% in May. What caused the spike? The glowing media coverage attendant to the Senate debating and then passing its immigration bill on May 25th, probably. The more pap people are fed about the “undocumented” coming out of the shadows to do the jobs Americans won’t do, the more they support amnesty. The Senate’s due to take up the issue again soon, perhaps as early as next month, so the numbers are going to start climbing again. 59% is probably the basement. [...]

[...] WashTimes has a companion article out tonight too weighing our chances of blocking the coming amnesty. In the Senate: zero. I mentioned in the Kyl post yesterday that there were only 36 Senators who voted against the immigration bill that passed in June, three of whom were Democrats. What I overlooked was that four of those Senators — Allen, Burns, Santorum, and Talent — are now gone. That leaves the anti-amnesty Republicans fully eight votes short of a filibuster, assuming that the three Democratic holdouts join them. Which is unlikely. [...]

[...] The GOP could try to ram home some sort of hardline compromise after the election as a last gasp before the membership changes in January. But there were 39 Democratic votes for the Senate immigration bill that passed in May, as well as two Democratic abstentions. 41 votes would be enough to filibuster a new bill until the new Senate took office. Not that they’d need a filibuster, what with Jorge Arbusto able and, presumably, willing to torpedo any strict-enforcement bill with which he’s presented. [...]

Dread Pirate, I missed the point too. Thought you were suffering from RINO-itis. Sorry.

What gets me is the blarney that people with such and such 'good time' get squatter's rights while people with one day less, are supposed to leave on the honor system.

The fine print of the bill basically says that any persons not caught standing on the border-line holding a Mexican flag can be paroled into the United States if they pay the fine and are not a national security risk.

It's the honor system extended to cheaters. The INS is only required to chase them with a certified letter. Well, probably first class. If the address is bogus the parolee will not be punished, unless we find him again, let him loose again and the parolee gives a bogus address a second time.

Then he gets a fine and/or jail. Heartless.

Meanwhile, my local largest American retailer is swamped 24/7 except on boycott days with people who barely speak English and must point at the products they need, usually work shoes and coveralls, kids clothes, and baby supplies.

The majority of them is carrying a handled basket, or pushing a stroller containing a tiny tiny baby. Seems to be a status symbol.

dman, you said it well:

"The goal is to save the Republic, not the Republic-ans"

If the Republican party is going to give away the Republic, it has no value for me. Individual Republicans are worth saving. These heros are the only boundary line left in our country.

Another good one:
"Remember the Alamo"

mike hale, my attempt at illuminating the stupidity of the proposal and how the Senate, by saying that these criminals would have to go to a “port of entry” to apply for citizenship, was making it sound like they put some teeth into the bill when they hadn’t done a thing, was apparently lost on you.

mike,
I agree, sheesh, it would be economically beneficial to many US citizens to hop the border and hop it back up here using all the fake documents illegals do.

Plus, the burden is on the lawbreakers to suddenly obey the law and turn themselves in or leave the country to re-apply. Call me cynical but I just don't see it happening.

Hey, what don’t you people understand? The Senate version is NOT AMNESTY! To become a citizen the Senate bill requires that most illegals would have to jump through hoops, which include leaving the country and reentering at one of only “ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR land ports of entry, TWELVE airports and TWO seaports” currently approved to conduct such activities.

So, unless more ports of entry should come on-line at locations such as Social Security Administration Offices, State Department of Motor Vehicle Locations, Post Offices and local libraries to assist these undocumented workers and their families, the hardship that going to a port of entry will impose will keep most from applying.

Federali, a military dictatorship might be among the desparate options if we fail to take the country back through the electoral process. If we play it smart, ignore the 'nervous Nellies', and vote effectively, that 'doomsday' scenario can be avoided.

The goal is to save the Republic, not the Republic-ans. It's regrettable that some good conservatives, among the Senate Republicans who voted 'no' on this bill, might lose office. As true patriots, however, they can accept this if it is for the greater good. We're out of 'safe' options.

Spank the Senate, hold the House.

[...] The one favoring amnesty. As I noted before, several of the RINOs who voted for this bill are up for re-election this year, there’s nothing we can do about McCain, but if we can dump these guys during the primaries, we’ll have a much stronger Senate next year. It’s too late to ditch DeWine and Lugar in the primaries, but that still leaves Snowe and Chafee. Even if Chafee gets through the primaries, there’s a good chance he’ll lose out in Novemeber. That’s not the case with Snowe. The Maine primaries are coming up on June 13th, so do everything you can to take her out then. Snowe is one of the worst of the RINOs. She consistently supports government-increasing legislation under the guise of environmental friendliness and supports illegal immigrant-friendly laws. Hot Air has a list of senators voting for this wretchedness, and of the RINO’s supporting it, only four are up for re-election this year: DeWine (OH), Lugar (IN), Snowe (ME) and Chafee (RI). Let’s get as many of them as we can. Tags: Senate, Snowe, Chafee, DeWine, Lugar [...]

<strong>Well, the Senate's in trouble, alright...</strong>

The Republican Senators who voted in favor of giving amnesty to illegal aliens should be voted out of office. It's now up to Congress' lower House to deal with this....

The reaseon we are in this fix is that we have followed the advice of 'evangelical tories' like "right ascension". What he forgets is that the RNC puts money into the primaries to get their RINO incumbents re-elected. What happened to Pat Toomey in PA versus Arlen Specter is a case in point. The RNC opposition to CA Proposition 187 is another.

Sorry, "right ascension", I'm not paralyzed by fear of Satan (aka the Dems). I do not look to the King (aka GWB) for salvation. It is time to TAKE our country back, in the spirit of those who founded this great nation, and those fallen who we remember today.

The faux guilt trip you offer (we should have voted differently in the primaries) doesn't fly. There's plenty more that we can do. Stand aside, "right ascension" and let us do it.

Reading the Senate Bill on the Thomas web site I found this -

" (D) A State may not require an individual to include the individual's citizenship status on a driver's license. "

THat will guarantee that illegals who want to vote illegally will not be identified as such at the polls.

Start here at s.2611
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:SN02611:

go to 'text of legislation'

To Rowane.
Yes! The American way is to voice your opinion at the polls. Scores of illegals already vote, with motor voter requiring little id, and laws making it illegal to ask for id at the polls. They are about to bring in 10 million more.

This is bypasses the Constitution. You can't fight this at the polls if they move in 10 million. I guess they had to get this bill passed before the next big election cycles.

Even if they have to 'go to the back of the line' for amnesty, those folks will be illegally motor-votered in before the next Presidential. After all, it will be 'their country' now. Many of the key states were won by just a few thousand votes.

"only one person suggested that this (3/25/etc.) was staged by the Democrats
...
Who better to stage this event? Who better to profit by turning Red State America against Bush and the Republicans?"

to right ascension

When Bush opened his mouth to make that lying phoney speech, he didn't need any help to turn me against him. Reading the arrogant insulting White House press briefing that preceded the speech clinched it

Whenever Bush says 'they' are good people' and
'jobs Americans won't do' here is the English translation:

'Ameristooges too lazy to do these jobs, even to help their families, the bastards!
Luckily just over the border, I mean luckily just inside the border good Mexican people are doing these stinking jobs because they love their families.

These are the kind of citizens we need. Lets reward these good people with everything the stinkin gringos have, so the good people can go forth, and work and vote for a better world without limits, or borders, or a middle class'

Question: why did this Immigration Bills suddenly become so important, after all the years of BUsh's Presidency? We already have immigration laws. What is wrong with those laws? I haven't heard a clear reason why the old laws were no good. They rammed this one through as if the public had been clamoring for it!

Oh..one other thought...

Because there are so many illegal Mexican Nationals in the USA, and they are allowed vote in the Mexican Presidental election, will we soon begin to see political commercials from canidates running for President of Mexico? Commercials on MSM (ABC/CBS/NBC). Frankly it wouldn't shock me, and MSM would spin it as something great for our country. But most wouldn't understand the commercials, they'll be in spanish. Stand by...this E-Ticket ride aint finished yet.
