[...] Will it get past the Senate? The House approved drilling in ANWR last month, but that looks DOA due to filibuster. There’s talk of filibustering this one too — and it’s not just the Democrats: Opponents of the federal ban argued that the nation needed to move closer to energy independence and insisted the gas and oil could be taken without threatening the environment and coastal beaches. They said a state choosing to keep the moratorium could do so… [...]

Some guy just patented an electrolyses machine that converts H2O (water) to HHO. It's blue flame burns cool to the touch but heats metals quickly. He has a car that runs on the stuff and the exahust is plain water. No kidding.

It would be nice if rhe next "oil" is "water". We could have some real fun then. And, once again a great world changing invention was American. (I wonder how much longer that kind of success will continue here once we officially join the ranks of other banana republics after the amnesty.)

Until oil wells start running dry other forms of energy will never be cost effective. If we spend lots of money on alternative fuel sources, and it starts to impact oil sales the price of oil will just drop to a level that will make the alternatives to expensive. So for now we just need to pump our own oil everywhere we can find it, until it is gone.
Why is it that we always blame cars for all the energy use, lets get the older homes off fuel oil heat. I have no problem with wind, solar, electric, geothermal or any other form of energy for a house that isn't going anywhere. But I want the full power of gas or diesel for vehicles. Plus if I have an emergency I can fill up in less than 5 minutes, not wait for a battery to charge. Also if I have to pay twice as much for a car using some other form of energy, I might as well get the cheaper gas guzzler and feed it.

If Brazil can become energy self-sufficient on alternative fuels, so can we. I'm not entirely delusional, I know that petroleum is here to stay for a long time, but we throw away plenty of potential energy sources every day. Now that the price of oil has ka-chinged its finally cost-efficient to explore alternatives. Give me a Mr. Fusion to dump my trash into!

Actually, a better proposal to reduce our dependence on oil would be to not allow more immigrants into our country. Population growth fuels petroleum dependence. Even the small gains that we will reap from ANWR oil will be more than undone by the number of relatives our illegals turned American citizens are going to be bringing into the country once they get their amnesty.

I'm afraid this won't matter significantly, either way.

Democrats exaggerate the potential for environmental damage to ANWR but Republicans exaggerate the potential of ANWR to free us from dependence on foreign oil. Its effect on gas prices will be small and not felt for some time and it won't have a sizable impact on our need to import petroleum.

Yes, we need to work on making nuclear viable again. We also need to try and make ethanol and alternative fuels feasible. We need the equivalent of a Manhattan project (or maybe several) to find new and creative ways to free us from our dependency.

Hell, we really should investigate everything: nuclear fission (nuclear fusion even), wind, solar, alternative fuels, cleaner coal, everything we can think of and then some.

I hope not speed647...The House seems to get the drift but the self indulgent, head in the sand whiners in the Senate have yet to wake up from the party. Maybe November will get their attention.

Finally. Finally. Finally. Now lets work on Jeb in Florida and The Terminator in California and get China out of our backyard. I know it won't make the price of gas go down, but at least it sends a message to our Arab "friends" and other world dictators. They don't give a flying cr*p about the environment. they just want to drill oil and make their money. Meanwhile, we have Algore whining and crying about global warming while taking a car ride for 500 yards to the cannes film festival. aaaarrrrrggggg!!!!!!

If drilling in the ANWR makes some caribou crap themselves, just collect it and refine that too. They can extract crude oil from pig poop, why not caribou crap?

Now _there_ is a job Americans won't do!

I like the idea of a nuclear-powered SUV. WOW. Imagine how fast you could get from, say, Arizona to Mexico and back. Probably make four, five trips a day, carrying 6 illegals a day...

Pay for your car the easy way.

More breaking news: ANWAR drilling approved by the House...

Allapundit over at Hot Air has the numbers and updates on this breaking news about ANWAR.
Now, there’s the challenge of the nutbags over in the Senate throwing a wrench in the idea of being closer to self-sufficiency.

The price of oil will still be determined by the international market. Developing ANWR will not lower the price but it will reduce our exposure to sudden spike in price of oil due to circumstances beyond our control. We need to increase our strategic reserves to damp down spikes.

1 million barrel a day of anticipated production rate is about 5% of US consumption. So don't set your hopes too high on cheap gasoline.
