Breaking: Gigantic fire at Istanbul airport

posted at 9:08 am on May 24, 2006 by Allahpundit

Fox is showing video right now. There are reports of explosions and panic in the terminals. The cloud of smoke is enormous.

In light of recent developments in Turkey, it’s worth keeping an eye on this.

Update: Fox says people might be trapped inside the cargo buildings where the “fire” started. The smoke needs to be seen to be believed. Keep your eye on TKS; Geraghty is based in Turkey so he might have something on this soon.

Update: Early AP report says the fire started in an area containing fuel depots.

Update: Silver lining: Fox says it looks like the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

Update: Uh oh. It’s probably just glory hounds trying to stir a little free publicity, but watch out.

Blowback

I just hope & pray the fire was caused accidentally, and not by terrorism.
