Translator: Saddam’s new novel should be made into a musical

“[I]f you read this book, you will understand how delicate and tender he really is,” she says. The name of the book? Get Out of Here, Curse You.

Naturally, she thinks it’d make a great musical:

Hirata believes the current novel, issued in a cover patterned with violets, was written by Saddam and has a melodic clarity to it that suggests it could be adapted to the stage.

“I really think this book should be made into a musical,” she said. “And once this is done, it should play in the heart of his enemy’s country, on Broadway.”

Koichi Chikaraishi, editor-in-chief at the Japanese publishing house that’s putting it out, adds reassuringly, “People here don’t think Saddam is totally bad, as they do in places like America, so there are people who will be interested in hearing his side of the story.”

The proposed musical, about a group of mischievous, singing-and-dancing cats who are systematically raped and gassed, is set to hit 42nd Street sometime in 2008.

Sweet! I bet he only wishes it was published 6 years ago so the UN would save him. I like how they say this is based backing ancient tribal times and how it is “strikingly similar to what is happened and is happening in the Iraqi war – totally”
But when they get to the part about ‘”Retaliatory Tactics” and “The Burning of the Twin Towers,” although Hirata said this did not specifically refer to the World Trade Center buildings attacked on September 11, 2001.’ –somehow this isn’t strikingly similar???? Please.

Does anyone know if they’ve named a street in France after him yet?

Does anyone else see a “The Producers” sequel here? Summertime for Saddam, anyone?

2008 may be a bit optimistic. Your wait may be longer as I understand the vaudeville adaptation of “Mein Kampf” is enjoying a good run.

BAGHDAD WAS IN TROUBLE FINDING A NEW LEADER
WANTED TO DE-STORE THEIR FORMER GLORY
MAKE THEMSELVES POOR AND VIOLENT
AND SO ITS

ITS SUMMERTIME FOR SADDAM AND THE IRAQI PEOPLE TOO!

“People here don’t think Saddam is totally bad, as they do in places like America…”

Actually, I don’t think that’s quite right about “places like America”…

Allah, please grace us with your Photoshops of Saddam hanging out of a taxi window and shouting. I know there is an F-bomb or two in it, but we’re all adults here. Those were hilarious. Nearly as good as your PS of Kos’ “Screw Them” shirt.

I can see the window display at City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco now:

SADDAM SINGS! (pile of his “work” surrounded by photos of Hussein as he crawls out of his hole in the desert making a “V” for victory sign, while wearing an AIDS ribbon)

IT TAKES A VILLAGE! (discounted heavily for the marginally liberal, combined with the latest vegan diet book and a free AIDS ribbon)

MY LIFE! (comes with a selection of colorful condoms and a list of “willing” women and a previously-worn AIDS ribbon)

COMING SOON: (Chelsea’s life-of-privilege story, including phone numbers of private schools, employers willing to spend six figures on a freshly-minted college graduate, and an AIDS ribbon)

I think that as soon as he is found guilty of the very first atrocities he’s been charged with-Hussein should be executed.
That very day. On television with the world watching. That way, each of the victims of his regime who wants justice can see justice done, even if their own case charging him doesn’t come up for years. If Hussein is kept alive until all the death sentences for his crimes have been signed, he will be a very old, old man. Iraq will move forward into democracy more quickly when Hussein is executed. Sooner is better.
