It starts at 9:30. Watch live on the web at C-SPAN. If something exciting happens, we’ll post the video here.

Update: Video posted here.

The worry was that intelligence committee members would turn the hearing into a public briefing/referendum on NSA data mining. Bush’s decision to brief them has apparently laid those worries to rest; on the other hand, if the previous 30 briefings didn’t do the trick, why would this one? It’s not just Congress that’s been kept in the loop, either, as Confederate Yankee points out.

I’ll leave you with this. A whole new generation of leakers for Dana Priest to buddy up to.

Update: What’s more important, the confirmation hearing for Bush’s nominee to lead the CIA or a re-run of a show nobody watches anyway? MSNBC has the answer.

Watch……the ones who have the most to fear from Gen Hayden’s confirmation will be his loudest detractors.

And the ones he knows something about from his NSA tenure will be very quiet.

I just popped some popcorn and am settling down in my nice comfy chair for my daily dose of political comedy. Grandstanding always makes great entertainment and makes me laugh. what a bunch of yahoos.
It’s a beautiful day here in South Texas! Ya’ll should be here…

Well, just as i thought. So far, it has nothing to do with Hayden and everything to do with the NSA spying thing. They are seeing how many political points they can score. Here goes Levin - quoting the story from USA Today that has pretty much been debunked. Can’t we just move on???

The unseemly vilification of the “Intelligence Professionals” by the Congress Members has caused me to think again about the late J. Edgar Hoover and his explosive set of private files containing reports of the indiscretions of Members Of Congress. Director Of The FBI Hoover was accorded a certain respect when he reported to the appropriate Congressional Committees, unlike the baiting and badgering that has tended to debase the essential civility that necessarily must govern the relationships between the Executive and Legislative Branches of Government. One aspect of this present corrosive contending in public forums is the creation of an incentive on the part of the Intelligence Agencies to resume Mr. Hoover’s practice of gathering derogatory data on Members Of Congress, thereby providing the Legislators with incentives to treat the “Intelligence Professionals” with courtesy. Of course, this silken blackmail could, and WOULD in unscrupulous hands, burden America with an oppressive Government by the Secret Agencies, much like that debasing the last years of Czarist Russia. The Okhrana actually participated in the assassination of a Czar. (So much for autocracy!) It’s NOT EASY being free!
