Feingold, Specter in gay marriage spat

Russ Feingold behaving sanctimoniously? What’s next? Andrew Sullivan behaving sanctimoniously?

Speaking of whom, this should be a good for a misty-eyed lyrical tribute or two this afternoon:

A Senate committee approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage Thursday, after a shouting match that ended when one Democrat strode out and the Republican chairman bid him “good riddance.”

“I don’t need to be lectured by you. You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., shouted after Sen. Russ Feingold declared his opposition to the amendment, his affinity for the Constitution and his intention to leave the meeting.

“If you want to leave, good riddance,” Specter finished.

“I’ve enjoyed your lecture, too, Mr. Chairman,” replied Feingold, D-Wis., who is considering a run for president in 2008. “See ya.”

I love the idea of McCain’s partner in campaign finance “reform” lecturing someone about the Constitution. And I’m sure his indignant, I-shall-have-no-part-of-this walkout came straight from the heart.

Update: Since I mentioned McCain, let me note that his appearance with Falwell isn’t the only example of a centrist Republican making friends with the Christian right.

And Mr. Specter, you are no more a protector of the constitution than Feingold. In fact, they’d both love to see it thrown out the window (assuming it would garner them enough votes in the next election, that is).

I sure wish Specter was that conservative on the illegal invasion of our country.

What is this? Man-on-Constitution love?

The only other profession open to these two Senators, SPECTRE & FEINGOLD, (and their every word screams their qualifications) is Evangelical Holy Roller Television Preachers of the Holy Blood of the Sacred Lamb. What a pair of Mountebanks! Let us give thanks that they remain Senators. Were they to embrace their alternate profession of TV Preachers, their perverse eloquence would do for Piety what the National Education Association has done for Literacy. (And whole populations would run damned.)

Both these clowns have about as much respect for our Constitution as the U.N.

There go your poster children for the repeal of the 17th Amendment (honorable mentions to McCain and Teddy Chappaquiddick).

This explains everything.

The entire Senate is suffering from hormonal imbalance.

Arlen Specter is not a real conservative. He barely is a Republican. Arlen Specter is a big spending, self-serving, liberal. He is a do-nothing Senator who needs his bell rung. Republicans should have seen this coming when GWB openly campaigned for Specter when a real conservative, Pat Toomey, was running for Americans.

We NEED to oust the do-nothings in Washington. Only by doing so, will the GOP get the picture. Country club RINOS care only for themselves and the lobbyist who are fattening them up.

Please don’t let the Pundits from the Weekly Standard and GWB cheerleaders scare you into voting Republican because WWPD? (What would Pelosi do?). If the Republicans lose the a$$es in November, maybe they will remember who they represent and get some control back in this country.

Here’s where the whole gay marriage thing falls apart…

Personally I’m a Libertarian and I could give a crap if they get married or not – but the biggest proponents of gay marriage don’t really do it out of a genuine love and concern for the institution of marriage. They do it out of spite for traditional social morays that they believe everyone else should “Evolve” beyond.

Do any of the people who support for gay marriage ever express concern for the rising divorce rate in this country?

No.

Do any of the people who support for gay marriage ever express concern for the all the kids being born and raised without fathers?

No.

Do any of the people who support for gay marriage ever express the belief that being a stay at home parent or having a child home schooled is a good thing?

No.

Do any of the people who support for gay marriage ever argue for a greater emphasis on abstinance or monogomy in society?

No.

Are any of the people who support gay marriage openly and agressively pro-life?

No.

As a libertarian – as much as I may believe in gay people having the right to marry – I’m not about to get behind the current lot of people in this country who support gay marriage.

They don’t want to build up society – they want to tear it down. They don’t want to free people – they want society to slowly kill itself off.

Ask a supporter of gay marriage if a man should be able to marry two or more men and see what response you get.

Ask a supporter of gay marriage if a woman should be able to marry two or more women and see what response you get.

Hey gay people, what makes you think you’ll be any better at marriage than the rest of us?

(Actually…don’t tell anyone…but 1/2 of the gay community is secretly very, very happy that they can’t get married! The half with money and property! They know that what follows gay marriage is gay divorce and nothing will knock the stuffin’ (no pun intended) out of a “gay” marriage like good divorce!)

“You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., shouted…

Isn’t that the truth. Are there any in Washington D.C. who are? Seemingly not. I am libertarian-minded (but voted for the CP candidate in ‘04) and have posted about what Dread Pirate Roberts mentioned: that proponents of gay marriage who would keep pologamy illegal are hypocrites.

Right now, the Minutemen are perhaps THE BEST VISIBLE EXAMPLE of “protectors of the Constitution” that we have.

The majority of those goofballs in DC don’t even come close.

NRA4Freedom on May 18, 2006 at 4:34 PM

Where have I been I didn’t even know that Fiengold and McCain were married.

birdman on May 18, 2006 at 4:43 PM

Two traitors having a temper tantrum

priceless

ScottyDog on May 18, 2006 at 7:23 PM

Not a large fan of Specter but even a less of a fan of Fiengold!
Large mouth, quick to start and sputtering not all that much. Looking for a place to land and can’t quite figure out which run way has his name on it. Answer is, not any!
Get the hell out of town Russell and give us all a break.

NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on May 18, 2006 at 7:51 PM

Arlen Specter finally said something I agree with him about: he’s not a protector of the contstitution.

right as rain man on May 18, 2006 at 8:52 PM

Specter and Feingold will kiss and make up later.

Feingold Spector in gay marrage spat, I think I got it now. This sex stuff confuses me. I heard a rummer, I can’t remember if it was Jerry Springer or Opra Wimpee that Russ Fiengold and John McCain will soon be tying the knot, also this is real hot news, Dick (helmet head) Durbin and Joe (plugs) Biden were seen holding hands at the illegal deminstration May 1 in NYC.

birdman on May 19, 2006 at 1:37 AM

so just who is the top and who is the bottom?

gary on May 19, 2006 at 7:16 AM

Nothing more disgusting than two liberal jerks arguing over whose the better “protector of the constitution”. Neither of these idiots have a clue about how to protect the constitution! Spector is worse however… since he’s the so called Republican in this cat fight.

Bob Mileti on May 19, 2006 at 8:02 AM

The lovers’ quarrel between Spector & Feingold was just a little “bitch fight”. They probably wiped each others’ tears away.

The aggressor is the “topper”.

They both make me want to throw up.

doingwhatican on May 19, 2006 at 11:56 AM

Hey, won’t be long til we see a new brand called “US Constitution” sitting next to all the Trojans and what not. Use it once, throw it away when you’re done.

Kokonut on May 19, 2006 at 12:31 PM

Spector & Feingold will have a little “spat” and then a few hours later will have cocktails at their favorite watering hole. Yes the Senate a private “country club” for the over the hill gange
