Good Vent, and dead on, Michelle. I’m so angry at our president, I could just spit.
ecamorg on May 17, 2006 at 9:46 AM
VERY SOBERING VENT…
The illegals who helped get phoney ID’s for the 9/11 terrorists are ACCOMPLICES - and you are correct, instead of being brought to justice, they will be brought to the head of the line to become US citizens.
We must contact our elected officials and demand that they watch this VENT and then go out and arrest illegals and get them OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!!
Richard Davis on May 17, 2006 at 9:55 AM
In yesterday’s primary elections, red-blooded conservatives began to punish and take back control of the Republican Party in the Commonwealth of PA who had abandoned the principle of fiscal restraint and voted themselves a huge, middle of the night, pay raise!
In what is being called the “greatest legislative turnover in a primary in 30 years” a group called RockTheCapital.org initiated a groundswell of opposition and, IN LESS THAN 10 MONTHS, toppled the TOP TWO State Senators and a bunch of State Representatives costing them, not only their pay increase, but their “lifetime” positions as well.
“The political forest has been cleared of deadwood. The issue is no longer if reform will occur, but what it will look like,” said Eric Epstein, founder of RockTheCapital.org, an anti-pay-raise group.
But the real story is, the politicos got the message and what occurred yesterday in Pennsylvania is indicative of what can happen if “true” conservatives band together in the primaries to promote, support, and elect those who believe in the “cause.” And when we do, the direction in which this country is headed can be turned on a dime, without the need for a third party.
Those of us who were so disappointed by Bush 41 supported Perot because we believed in what he stood for, only to find out too late that he was, to put it nicely, unstable.
But even in the aftermath of that mess “they” heard us, took note of our dissatisfaction with how the Republican Party had abandoned the principles of Reagan and, as a result, we got the “Contract with America,” control of both houses of Congress, and we put a man who we believed was a Conservative in the White House.
Now here we are, having been hoodwinked once again by el Presidente Jorge Arbusto and the rest of the Republican “Followship.” So it’s time we act, but this time it needs to be done from the inside. If it can happen in Pennsylvania, it can happen in the nation.
Red states are not red because they voted Republican, they are red because they are angry and the anger over the direction this President and this Congress are heading is spreading! Forget Rice! She’s a Bushie. How’s Gingrich-Tancredo sound?
Dread Pirate Roberts VI on May 17, 2006 at 10:00 AM
Perfect vent, Michelle.
Once again, you have demonstrated your uncanny accuracy to give a good, swift journalistic kick in the crotch of those situations and policies that harm our nation.
It is quite clear that some of our elected officials have decided that their political careers come first and the sovergnity of our nation comes second.
Washington, PC….the disintigration continues.
The False Dervish on May 17, 2006 at 10:11 AM
Another great Vent. I can’t, for the life of me, understand how this Bush plan has any support from people who claim to be on the “right”.
p0s3r on May 17, 2006 at 10:15 AM
Pander and appease seems to continue, lots of talk no action. Excellent rant to show where these aliens get ID’s, very enlightening. While our leaders (?) in DC fiddle the aliens pour into the orchestra.
Wade on May 17, 2006 at 10:18 AM
Another stellar report. I love your location shoots as well.
I’m just hoping that those disenchanted with Bush for whatever reasons don’t give up on the Republican party or decide not to vote next time around because all that will mean is a DEMOCRAT in the White House … and we can’t afford to let that happen.
bleeding_right on May 17, 2006 at 10:20 AM
Prior to this stunning Vent, the *only* other place where I’ve heard about this story connecting the blatant illegal document trafficking biz with the 9/11 hijackers is from Mark Steyn. Great job. Once again, the vidbloggers go where the networks dare not.

Right on target as usual Michelle. Sorry Jeb but I will never ever vote for a Bush again.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I forgot about this connection. Thank you for posting this.
It’s interesting to see how the left instantly calls all this talk “racist” and “xenophobic”.
Mongo on May 17, 2006 at 10:32 AM
Michelle, I commend your continuing courageous battle to protect our borders. Like others here, I am totally engaged that El Presidente Jorge Arbusto is more solicitous of El President’s Fox’s feelings than the well-being of the U.S. population legally here and livid at his shell game aimed at convincing the American people that he is trying to secure our borders. The left is wrong that Jorge knowingly lied in portraying a WMD threat present by the Hussein Regime, but those who believed he knowingly lied in claiming he is going to secure our southern border in his speech and additionally displayed total contempt for the intelligence of Americans in ordering Homeland Security to stage a series of well-publicized but phony raid that resulted in no one held for more than a day are dead-right.
As a trained demographer, I can confidently predict the consequences of adopting the Senate Bill would be disastrous culturally, economically, and security-wise. Unfortunately, the Senate is going to sign off on the travesty. However, there is still hope that the House will not go along, especially if the Republican grass roots indicates outrage.
My question is, “what do we do to stop amnesty and open borders from becoming a reality? Rather than just venting my outrage at El Presidente and those Republicans in the Senate who have sold us out to Kennedy, Durbin and other Dems who wish to destroy the Republican Party along with El Presidente and have been handed a pistol to accomplish both, I would rather “get even,” or at least prevent the destruction of the Republican Party in the near future and in the longer term the U.S. as we know and love it now. It is imperative that we organize. I myself live literally “in the middle of nowhere” far away from where important national decisions are made but believe that with the internet every interested person can be organized to put pressure on those making the decisions.
What do you suggest? Those believing as you do on this issue represent a solid majority of the American population and many of the more politically active read your columns religiously, trust your judgment and will follow whatever you say would be the best approach for stopping the Senate travesty and, in the longer term, promote real “immigration reform” aim at securing our border and severely punishing those who hire illegals.
ptolemy on May 17, 2006 at 10:33 AM
I can’t say that these vents are “refreshing”. I will admit that they have become necessary! Thank you Michelle for bringing us these unpleasant truths, because I still believe it’s better to know than to not know.
Our government is out of control. They spend more effort today on telling us what their doing than on what it is they’re actually doing! They have become agents of our Nation’s destruction. It seems that their core philosophy is one where America’s future WILL BE one of overpopulation, poverty, disease, crime, immorality and hopelessness. And that there is nothing we can do to prevent it! But who says they can’t enjoy the ride down? Five star dining! No limit poker with hookers! Paid travel! Fame and celebrity!
Maybe I’m on the wrong side of this? Instead of getting down about this maybe I should run for public office?
Gault on May 17, 2006 at 10:38 AM
I went door-to-door during the last election to talk to people who were registered as Republicans, but who weren’t very happy with Bush in an attempt to sweeten them to Bush’s strengths and vote for him.
However, I HAVE since given up on the Republican party. This immigration issue isn’t NEW. A government’s FIRST responsibility is to protect its citizens–from foreign or domestic threats. Our government has known about the problems of terror cells, terror camps, crimes committed by illegal aliens, hospitals closing because of illegals using but not paying for services. Don’t think these things aren’t related. In all the examples, the government refuses to take action and citizens are left unprotected. Bush, for all his yapping about taking the war THERE to protect us HERE, refuses to do what needs to be done to get the threat OUT of the country. I understand there are two issues here, but as Michelle shows today, there’s overlap in illegals and terror activity.
The reality is, we must continue to send letters, make calls, send pesos, send bricks, send toilet brushes, etc. But the power is always in the people, not in the governemnt. We need to vote them out, and do what Laura suggests: put our money where our mouth is. Don’t hire them to clean your house, don’t hire them to paint, to watch your kids, do your gardening, cooking ETC!! And then, send money to people who are standing against our impotent government.
Leiren on May 17, 2006 at 10:39 AM
There are so many myths about the hijackers, and one that should be dispelled is that they were anything but second rate thugs.
In addition to knowing the 7Eleven that Michelle shows in the Vent, my cousins have also shown me another 9-11 landmark - the strip club in San Diego where two other hijackers spent a significant amount of time. Further, I believe that they spent the evenings of weekend before the 11th in that club.
So not only were they criminals in a mundane sense (obtaining identification illegally, eg), but they weren’t “holy warriors” infused with the light of Allah as they set off on their errand. More exposes showing the common thuggishness of the hijackers would be welcome, and would go a long way to undermine the casting of these murderers as heroes.

GAULT!
YES!! That’s EXACTLY what needs to be done! People with kahunas need to run for office. People who haven’t had their hands oiled and who have no special interests groups forcing them to represent their agendas.
Run for any office!! Many local offices are won by a few hundred votes. A couple saturdays of door to door and enough people who are fed up with status quo and you’re in!
Leiren on May 17, 2006 at 10:42 AM
Bravo Michelle!
Another Great piece of reporting on a crucial issue Michelle! Bravo!
This is exactly the content we really need in these times to clearly identify the problem.
The more I become aware of this problem of illegal aliens it becomes frustrating because it seems that our representatives care only about short term greed - for profit or anticiapation of power. How to “wake them up” seems difficult.
Thanks again for your daily video Michelle!

Great Vent. I must admit, I had NEVER heard that these hijackers obtained ID through illegal immigrants. This needs to be splashed all over the place, and I’m glad I finally found this out so I can let others know. Thank you.
StephC on May 17, 2006 at 11:08 AM
This was a great vent, but I just want to caution people about their anger a bit. What’s the alternative, really?
If Senate Republicans were to get tough and support building a wall, etc. what would happen? Obstruction from Democrats. Everything would be delayed, months would turn in to years, the media will create more “Bush scandals”, and nothing will get done other than Democrats playing to the cameras demanding investigations.
Suppose we somehow did get a tough immigration package passed… What happens then? Race card comes out furthur boosting the voting motivation of the growing hate Bush crowd. We already had Hillary and Teddy campaigning at illegal rallies, and we all remember the signs at the Dallas rally with a fused together Texas and Mexico that reminded marchers to vote Democrat. Hillary already wants felons to vote, would you be surprised to see them allow illegals to vote?
Anyway the point I’m trying to make is that it’s a “damned if ya do, damned if you don’t” situation. If the President and GOP get tough, they lose the elections and any good they might have done gets reversed anyway. At least this baby step does a little good.
RightWinged on May 17, 2006 at 11:14 AM
by the way, I just wanted to quickly clarify incase there was any confusion… I’m as outraged at the behavior of the people in Washington, but my fear is that the right gets so outraged that they stay home in November and then we’re really screwed.
RightWinged on May 17, 2006 at 11:15 AM
Powerful Michelle. Great reporting and something we aren’t likely to see from MSM. Keep up the good work.
Mott on May 17, 2006 at 11:15 AM
Damned if we do, damned if we don’t? No. I’m mad, but not willing to give up the fight yet. We still have time to send a message about which Republican we want on the ticket. Condi is a horrible choice. If the “grassroots” crowd is sqeaky enough, vocal enough, active enough, we can pressure the Reblicans to put a better candidate on the ticket so we aren’t going to vote AGAINST someone (the running Democrat), but rather FOR someone. I think most of us voted for Bush not because we thought he was such a fearless leader, but because the thought of Kerry running the country was inconceivable. I don’t want that this election. Give me someone I support… not the “lesser of two evils.”
I believe the conservative base IS strong enough to demand a candidate who WE like. It was, after all, all the little people (us) who faithfully went out to vote for Bush when all the “stats” showed he wouldn’t carry the last election.
Leiren on May 17, 2006 at 11:24 AM
I just emailed my Senators (unfortunately, they are Cantwell and Murray.) Doubt they give a rip. I live in E. WA, which is very conservative. But because W. WA has so many people (most of which are liberal) those of us over here don’t really get their views heard and shown.

Great piece as usual, Michelle. It’s amazing how you could do a report on those illegal criminals right in the 7-11 parking lot, and they don’t care, they have zero fear of any law enforcement officials. Julie Myers is a bad joke.

Michelle:
Not everyone has forgotten. In part 2 of the Donald P. Bellisario scripted NCIS season finale that aired last night, a character tells an amnesiac Gibbs (Mark Harmon) about 9/11. Gibbs reacts by running to a nearby trashbin and vomiting.
Perhaps we should take a moment to send thanks to Donald Bellisario in reminding us once again.
We must never, EVER forget.

Very informative vent!
We all know that people are going to act illegally regardless of enforcement or laws, but it is insane how easy it is for them to obtain documents.
Obviously we have become a country with an open door policy intended to let any illegal activity happen. This lack of enforcement with no consequences is embarrassing.
Everyone needs to start paying attention to who their legislators are and how they vote, and if they are against you they need to be booted.

Thank you for your patriotism, Michelle. I remember listening for 30 years to Bob Grant on radio stations WMCA and WOR who for years, before you, was the champion of protecting our borders. He correctly called illegal aliens ‘invaders’ and ‘marauders’ and often quoted Teddy White who stated that ‘English Language in the glue that cements the fabric of our society together….”. Therefore we could lose our country not only to terrorism but to the same time of dual lingualism that has Canada sitting on a perpetual powder keg.

Plain and simple, you cannot be strong on national security unless you are strong on border enforcement. Jorge and the open borders advocates in congress are leaving a huge hole in U.S. national security by refusing to deal with this problem in an enforcement first manner.

Besides the terror conection, Jorge Boosh also forgot several other things during his Civics Lecture address we all so enjoyed Monday evening. He left out of his civics class the costs to LEGAL taxpaying citizens. I live in So. Calif. We pay billions a year in unpaid hospital costs. Illegals don’t pay a dime for any medical costs. Our schools are in a crisis, with thousands failing, and classrooms over crowded. The costs are off the charts for crimes committed by illegal aliens, and then housing them in our prisons, estimating around $70 bucks a day for each. No, Jorge didn’t mention any of that. He just loves to say how great this situation is, continuing to shove down our throats the “good hard working folks” crap. He seems obsessed about taking care of, and providing a living to illegal aliens, but ignoring his own countrymen. When was the last time he paid a compliment to us? He doesn’t. He just continues to lecture us on how to be good citizens, and how we must accept his immigration plan. Frankly, it has become disturbing, and I feel I’m an extra in some kind of weird science fiction movie.
SparkyFD on May 17, 2006 at 12:52 PM
Excellent vent, excellent points. I’ve told Senator Coleman that unless he changes his vote on the Isakson amendment, I’ll work against his re-election in 2008. Also told Mark Kennedy that unless he supports border control and immigration enforcement first I would work against his election efforts for the senate this fall.
Don’t know if either politician gives a damn but then perhaps one voice can be heard above the clamoring crowd and gain an audience!
Unless and until we first control the border and also enforce existing immigration laws anything we do regarding the status of the current illegals would be ineffective. Granting amnesty now would be a mistake and would only encourage more illegal immigration. Developing fool-proof Ids, even with using biometrics, is going to be a challenge, yet without verification any such id will be a joke. So, control the in-flood of illegals and then we can dry up the lake later.

Hello Michelle and Everyone…. was finally able to register!
I am one of those who did forget the connection between the hijackers and the illegals so thanks for that reminder and the Vent was absolutely on point.
I agree with several previous posters. We do have to remember the Perot debacle or suffer the consequences in ‘08. I can only cringe when I think about how John Kerry would have approached illegal immigration. Shades of Jacque Chirac!
Seal the borders, enforce the laws, no more anchor babies (where did THAT come from?), hold employers accountable.
Come to think of it, they get free healthcare, free education, don’t have to pay no stinkin’ taxes..etc. I may have to petition the courts to legally declare me ‘illegal’.
Then I can set aside a day to run amok in the streets. Maybe that will get my Senators attention. My emails certainly don’t. At this juncture it seems that Congress is paying more attention to the ‘mob’ than to it’s own constituents. Well… that’s my ‘vent’ for today.

As Michelle points out, WE HAVE NOTHING right now to constrain illegal aliens from entering and remaining in the country. Nothing!
Any bill that passes this year should ONLY be considered the “first step.” We must insure that this issue gets revisited as often as necessary until we achieve control of our borders. The very idea that immigration reform can only be considered every 20 years or so MUST be disabused.
What we do not get this time around, should be sought next year and every year thereafter until we get everything we want. This “incrementalism” is exactly how liberals achieve their agenda. Each small advance always gets touted as a “Good First Step.” So let’s use the same tactic.
Besides a physical barrier at the border, we also need strong enforcement of the laws against hiring illegals. Gresham’s Law applies to wages that are universally driven DOWN by hiring illegals for unskilled or semi-skilled labor. Certainly “minimum” wage laws become a joke when illegal aliens are paid “off the books” and “under the table.” And those jobs which get taken below the minimum wage radar become permanently lost to US citizens and LEGAL residents.
Finally, and I have not seen much comment on this, if we want to implement a major disencentive to illegal immigration, we need to remove a driving force for illegal aliens entering the country. We need to make it a felony for illegal aliens to use the mail, courier services or electronic means to transfer funds to Mexico, or for anybody else to do so on their behalf, including currency exchanges or private brokers.
Billions of dollars are sent to Mexico each year by illegal aliens. Crimping the flow dampens the incentive to come here in the first place.
georgej on May 17, 2006 at 2:19 PM
Now I know how it felt to be an Indian in the 1600’s. A tidal wave of Mexicans is streaming across our border, and we can’t seem to stop it. If we don’t get this turned around soon, it’s goodbye America, and hello Aztlan. In 50 years our grandchildren will have to decide what reservation they want to live on – if they’re lucky.

Birdman: I found them and I thank you for your comments. It is truly refreshing to discover someone (no, TWO!) in NJ that are conservative! I have looked for many years to find someone from there I could perhaps respect and appreciate. That’s COOL, but I have no idea how you tolerate it there. Of course, my friends outside Maine say the same thing about me. Ha! Dorothy was right I guess.
I completely understand your hostility towards the Bush sellout. I am totally exasperated with his cellophane BS!
And if anyone thinks I must be a racist because I am so angry, you should speak to my beautiful wife of 12 years. She is a Filipina, (like Michelle I am proud to say) who petitioned the US, LEGALLY, for SEVEN YEARS before lawfully gaining her resident alien status. She then joined the ARMY and served this country with pride. So much pride in fact, that she renounced her Philippine citizenship and became a NATURALIZED AMERICAN! She is a registered, active voter, damn proud of our flag, and MAD AS HELL too! (No wonder she chose a racist to marry, eh?)
Lunch is well over… gotta’ make $$$ because I’m a capitalist racist, too! God Bless Our Country, what’s left of it.

May I suggest that all of you that are outraged, call the Senators that are debating this issue right now.
Emails and Faxes are ignored so get on the phones and tell them you are outraged and want Enforcement of our Borders.
No Amnesty
No Phony Guest Workers
These are the Senators who are undecided on the issue. Call them today and say NO to amnesty!

I, like each of you, am fed up with our government and this illegal alien (sorry not immigrants)b.s. I have written my congressional rep and senators several times telling them I want no amnesty. I have heard from my rep. John Culberson several times in emails, once from Senator Kay Bailey-Hutchinson via a letter which was wishy-washy and nothing from Senator John Cornyn. I do read that Sen Cornyn was one of the senators that Bush snubbed several weeks ago because he is a strong proponent of securing the borders.
I live in Houston. On my way home yesterday, I was listening to the local FM conservative talk show and they had on as their weekly guest, congressman Ted Poe who represents parts of Houston and southeast Texas. Congressman Poe was a former judge here and a tough judge who did not put up with any b.s. He is for tough border security and laws that are tough on illegals, deportation, etc.
One of the callers was a teacher who let it be know that the State of Texas is requiring all teachers to take a course in how to teach ESL at a cost to the taxpayers of $300 per teacher. State law!
Another caller said she worked for an attorney who represented a border patrol agent that was arrested, tried, and convicted for doing his job. As she told it, the BP was tipped off about an illegal that was going to cross the border that was going to be carrying illegal drugs. The BP agent(s) waited and found the guy coming across the border as planned. When they tried to arrest him, he ran, the agent pushed him down. They took him to processing and as they were filling out the paperwork, the illegal saw a sign that basically said if you feel you have been mistreated you may file a grievence. He did and the government prosecuted the BP agent. The agents legal bills were over 100K. He now sits in federal prison. This illegal had crossed the border illegal plus carrying illegal drugs. Pathetic.
Congressman Poe told the listeners that the Mexican government has filed a law suit against the Sherif in Arizona to stop him from arresting and harrassing illegals that trespass. I believe the county is Mariopa. I could be wrong on the spelling. Michelle could you check this out, please.
One lady called in and said a friend of hers moved to Mexico and had to sign all kinds of documents that said she was financially responsible and had insurance and that she would not be a burden to the govenment of Mexico. Why don’t we do this?
When the illegals and their followers first started demonstrating a month ago, one website I was on, many suggestions I heard where to:
1. call RNC and talk to a live person
2. if you go into a restraunt or other establishment that you suspect illegals are working, ask for the manager and question him on illegals working there. If he/she says yes, then tell that person you will no longer spend your money there until he fires those workers and you will tell your friends not to patronize that establishment.
3. When you have work done at your house, ask the company if they use illegals, again tell them you will not use their company until they hire Americans.
4. Contact your congressional rep, both state and federal and let them know how you feel.
5. Don’t buy products from Mexico
6. Don’t go on vacations in Mexico, spend your vacation money here.
These are some suggestions I have seen and heard.
What I want to know is how and why is the Mexican government interferring in our internal matters. Somebody needs to tell Fox to butt out.
My blood pressure is creeping up time to quit.
Also thank you Michelle for allowing us to vent on these issues - our congressional people don’t give a damn about us.

The comparison to Indians is apt. In the 1600’s they had the power to expel our ancestors, but were too divided to do it. Many of their leaders cooperated with the Europeans to gain a temporary advantage over their rivals, and others were happy being multicultural – sound familiar? By the time they realized how much trouble they were in, it was too late.
You’re right on about contacting our reps – unfortunately mine are all Dems, and they can’t wait to be overrun.

Great Vent MM, best yet…I have been one of the stalwart supporters of El presidente since 2000 (a tough job in south FL, let me tell you!!) but I have really started to fade…we need a strong leadership in ‘06 and ‘08, but I do not see how it will happen. Meanwhile I have to spend every day raising my blood pressure 20 points just trying to get someone to understand I just want a cup of coffee! I will not learn Spanish, I refuse to even try. What I find funny is when I was stationed in Korea years ago, while the locals MIGHT have a few words of english, I do not remember a groundswell to force an American way of life on them, to demand all signs and forms be in English, to make them give medical care…funny. Anyone else see anything like that anywhere else in the world? Anyway, back to work. I do not know about anyone else, but I am starting to feel a bit lost here….

When are we going to see a demonstration of those of us who are sick of the ‘gifting’ to those who are breaking our laws? I have never demonstrated before, but this is one I WILL turn out for.
It is time someone organizes a march to protest the granting of amnesty, the ignoring of our laws, the ’sanctuary’ gifts our politicians are granting to any and all illegal aliens.
It is also time to boycott any business that hires illegals, that gives shelter to illegals, that gives loans to illegals - it is time for those of us with common sense to stand up and be counted.
blueskieswoman on May 17, 2006 at 4:20 PM
Someone mentioned….
One lady called in and said a friend of hers moved to Mexico and had to sign all kinds of documents that said she was financially responsible and had insurance and that she would not be a burden to the govenment of Mexico. Why don’t we do this?
We do this - for legal immigrants. Im order to have my wife come over here I had to sign an ‘Affadivit of Support’ stating that I would support until she works for 10 years - or becomes a citizen (even after any divorce, etc…). What that means is that if she goes into emergency on the government’s dime, gets welfare or any other ‘entitlement’ then Uncle s[c]am can come after me to foot the bill.
Of course for us the affidavit isn’t a problem - we are far more dedicated to each other and our children then any affidavit can make us :).
Do you think Bush will require all the illegals who get his Amnisty to have sponsers for 10 years? I don’t think so.

birdman on May 17, 2006 at 4:25 PM
blueskieswoman - the problem is most if us conseratives have to work for a living.
After all so many on welfare and illegal aliens depend on us to pay our taxes so they can sit on their asses and get free schools and medical for their spawn…
CrazyFool on May 17, 2006 at 4:31 PM
Michelle - do you know of any websites with petitions that will go directly to our politicians, the white house & MSM to let us VENT?
Also, is there any website that will list businesses that are found to be hiring illegals so those can be boycotted?
blueskieswoman on May 17, 2006 at 4:42 PM
crazyfool - this is too true. However, maybe it’s time for hardworking LEGAL citizens to take a day to stay out of schools, work, etc. & protest to show that there are many more LEGALS than ILLEGALS.
Maybe we should have a “National SICK Day” where everyone stays home from work & school to show that real citizens have real power to bring business/industry to a halt.
If a grassroots action such as this occurred, it certainly would be an eye-opener for all the politicos.
blueskieswoman on May 17, 2006 at 4:49 PM
Thank you, Michelle. This is just absolutely sickening. Why is it so hard to understand for our “leaders”? People who are here illegally need to be deported. Start doing this, and the others will learn and will get the heck outta Dodge.
Something smells.
kas on May 17, 2006 at 4:50 PM
Blueskies,
It’s more likely that a whole industry relies on illegals. I have heard a number of radio caller small business owners state that they can’t compete unless they hire illegals because of the low wages and benefits. Essentially everyone else does it so that becomes the standard.
The solution would be state and local legislation that is industry focused to encourage compliance and enforce/punish across the board. It could be linked to the business license for example.
Of course the industry lobbyists will fight it but that is where citizen action comes in.

If you are in the Chicago area, there is a march against illegal immigration planned for tomorrow at noon at Union Park, 1500 W. Randolph, Chicago which will proceed to Ashland and east to 219 S. Dearborn, the Federal Plaza. This is the same route taken by the supporters on May 1.
I hope to attend unless it is pouring rain.

Brava M.McC! I’m not in the Chicago area but I wish you lots of luck. I really hope MANY people turn out. Has your press picked up the story so far?
NIMBY - as a former small business owner, I know too well the stresses of competition - but I never, ever considered breaking the law. I worked hard and many, many, many long hours because I couldn’t afford to hire lots of people. I loved it tho and would still be doing it but cancer has, unfortunately, permanently disabled me.
Guess ethics aren’t a problem for those hiring illegals. I wonder how they justify it to themselves. Pathetic people.
And for any cheeseheads out in the ether, call & write your state reps to get the bill for Voter ID passed! As it stands now, should I decide to vote often (on the same day) I can go right ahead. Don’t have to prove a darn thing.
