Jonah asks, Hot Air delivers. Click the image to download. I’ll have the Flash version up in a bit.
Update: Here’s the Flash video. I’ve added a segment at the end where Snow is asked about his cancer bracelet. Don’t miss it.
At some point this afternoon, some lefty will accuse him of having faked the tears to get sympathy. Count on it.

Tony Snow very politely swatted Helen Thomas whole argument out of the park. “What did the USA Today story say?” Maybe Helen shoud READ the story before asking Tony about it.
The only thing missing was Snow’s trademark smirk.
Heh-heh-heh.
Carvin Guitar Man on May 16, 2006 at 1:54 PM
Now that’s just not fair!
Actually paying (and calling) attention to the fact that we’re at war and that she’s trying to get him to talk about important and secret activities intended to help win that war. The nerve!
Doesn’t he know he’s supposed to just admit that the President is evil incarnate?
KCSteve on May 16, 2006 at 1:58 PM
I’m ready for a TS/HT Death Match ™.
A taste of things to come?
Mheh.
Lady Heather on May 16, 2006 at 1:58 PM
Who would have ever thUnk it! Tony Snow at the podium. Great makeup job to boot! Anyone know if the entire briefing will be rerun?
Dread Pirate Roberts VI on May 16, 2006 at 1:59 PM
Tony will be just fine. Helen and Greg can go to …. and I think they know their spinning j-days just got much more difficult.
shooter on May 16, 2006 at 1:59 PM
Why is that old harridan sitting on the front row again? I thought she’d been banned to the back of the room, since she doesn’t work for any legitimate media anymore. She just blogs and writes her own rants. Tony could do himself a favor and give her the wrong time to appear for the briefings, like an hour after they have occurred.
clyde on May 16, 2006 at 2:01 PM
wow, he’s pretty good.
p0s3r on May 16, 2006 at 2:03 PM
Clyde, I think the old biddy should be banned altogether. She’s the epitomy of the barking moonbat.
Duty, Honor, Country

This senile old lady would be a good match for the senile old man Walter “Lie about Nam” Cronkite.
Wade on May 16, 2006 at 2:21 PM
Liked the way Snow pointed out the fact that she was mixing up two totally different stories… and making pointless accusations without any evidence…
Go Tony… he’s the only part of the Bush administration (besides Rummy) I like…
Romeo13 on May 16, 2006 at 2:25 PM
It’s good to hear Tony Snow refer to policy as “Our” policy.
Not “the policy of this administration.” “We are in a war on terror.”
Not “the administration is in a war on terror.”
If only Helen Thomas had the courage to disclose which side SHE supported!
Gault on May 16, 2006 at 2:28 PM
YEESSS!!
Finally some back bone to counter these seditious dorks who seemed to have taken over every meeting.
A welcomed, but long overdue change.
Go Snow!
NTWR on May 16, 2006 at 2:34 PM
Oh no! Please make sure Helen is in the fron and takes up about 20% of the briefing Q and A time. Every time she opens her mouth another moderate Democrat moves to the right.
MCPO Airdale on May 16, 2006 at 2:34 PM
Jeez, Tony Snow! Helen Thomas would gladly give you the answer to her question if you’d just shut up and listen.
ZRyan on May 16, 2006 at 2:37 PM
Good job Tony….
Tom N on May 16, 2006 at 2:42 PM
Helen Thomas outlived her usefulness 90 years ago.
Superb job, Tony!
ForYourEdification on May 16, 2006 at 2:45 PM
YEA! Way to go Tony! Why’d it take Bush so long to hire you?
Iblis on May 16, 2006 at 2:50 PM
Yay.
Just…. Yay.
Finally a White House Spokesman who understands EXACTLY what the MSM is up to, and can vivisect them in front of our eyes on a daily basis.
Fleischer wasn’t too bad.
Mclellan seemed clueless.
Snow is right on the money.
Hopefully future Conservative Presidents will take a clue from Snow’s appointment and continue to put someone who can fight back effectively against all those moonbats.
venmax on May 16, 2006 at 2:59 PM
Man that has to be one of the politest jobs of beating the daylights out of a moonbat I have ever seen. But it was WELL deserved and WAY overdue.
RH
RobertHuntingdon on May 16, 2006 at 3:00 PM
Instinctively I understand that Helen Thomas is a ‘moonbat’, or just a bat – please explain the prevalent ‘moonbat’ reference on this site. Sorry to be so late to the fest – it is enjoyable!
Entelechy on May 16, 2006 at 3:00 PM
If this is the way Tony Snow will be handling the press, then his appointment was a genius stroke. He refused to let Helen Thomas define the area of debate using wildely inaccurate terms (like using “wiretapping” when she is talking about a simple phone number).
whatnext on May 16, 2006 at 3:04 PM
The original lunatics were moon worshippers. Over time lunatic came to mean any insane person. Most of the far left are pretty much certifiable. As for the bat part there are plenty of explanations. Crazy people are also considered “batty”. Also bats make lots of noise in the dark and hide from the light (truth). Not sure who coined it first, but its become extremely popular way to describe the extreme left.

What. A. Nut.
darkpixel on May 16, 2006 at 3:06 PM
Why is this old bat allowed in the press briefings? She doesn’t even pretend to be an objective journalist; she’s basically just playing to the moonbats…I mean, how do I get that job? I mean, I could harass a democrat administration with all kinds of right wing commentary that serves to slow things down? My luck after busting Hillary’s chops, I’d get the Erin Pierce treatment; carried outside to a Secret Service car with a garbage bag in the trunk..(that was on 24 last night if anyone watches)
austinnelly on May 16, 2006 at 3:08 PM
Tony Snow: A decent, honorable man with humility and class. He stands out because there are very few people like him, not only in Washington DC, but in the entire country as well.
Tony Snow is the good guy that you never get tired rooting for.
Thomas Galvin on May 16, 2006 at 3:12 PM
Helen Thomas would make A great reguler on Saturday Night Live, shes A natural.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 3:17 PM
Saturday Night Dead maybe.
Morticians can provide her makeup.
clyde on May 16, 2006 at 3:30 PM
“Morticians can provide her makeup”, thats great. How about this instead of The “Coneheads” the “Deadheads”. This could be A whole new carreer for Helen.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 3:36 PM
The Administration desperately needed someone like Tony in there. Now maybe he can also feedback what conservatives are thinking about the President’s so-called immigration policy. That’s just as important, because Bush has lost his way.
Orcaswa on May 16, 2006 at 3:44 PM
Bush lied, Tony cried!
Wineaholic on May 16, 2006 at 3:45 PM
Tony has more courage and more loyalty to this country than any of these lounge chair, gutless, over paid ego centric nut balls in the media. They have met their match. It will be a joy to watch them all get slapped in the head by a true American!!!!
Viva la Tony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, the peak of Helen Thomas’s career was her bit cameo role in the movie “Dave”.
Dave Shay on May 16, 2006 at 3:51 PM
Entelechy,
Although Wikipedia is not often very accurate, their write up on “Moonbat” is pretty good. You’ll be up to speed in no time.

pistolero on May 16, 2006 at 3:57 PM
Deftly handled. He’s not as stiff as his predecessor. As far as the tears, my late wife battled breast cancer for 10 years and said things similar to this. I recognize the sincerity and believe him.
GPE on May 16, 2006 at 3:59 PM
Tony is pure Class and soooooooooo smooth.
trainguy on May 16, 2006 at 4:01 PM
A Press Secretary who is actually allowed to say something — what a concept! What a relief!
JM Hanes on May 16, 2006 at 4:02 PM
Putting Tony Snow in there was a fantastic move. I’m actually looking forward to more news conferences. I hope Tony has the President’s ear behind the scenes…
canvas on May 16, 2006 at 4:06 PM
Watching Tony Snow interact with these airheads is like watching a dad playing a pick-up basketball game with his kids. He’ll play along and even let them make a few shots. But if they get cocky, he’ll slap the ball over the hedges.
Sugar Land on May 16, 2006 at 4:08 PM
Oh Helen Thomas is so Frightful!
But Tony Snow is so Delightful
And since we’ve no place to go….
Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow
Bob Mileti on May 16, 2006 at 4:27 PM
When he gets a chance to answer the question…we get answers!! I think his press conferences will actually be educational; for us and the press corps.
Thanks so much to whoever thought to hire Tony.
jatfla on May 16, 2006 at 4:28 PM
Yeah, Tony Snow is smooth as silk, and he has A great sense of humor, dealing with the pack that is the White House Press Corps, A sense of humor is required.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 4:36 PM
I’d buy Tony a beer to congratulate him on putting the press corps in its place
Defector01 on May 16, 2006 at 4:56 PM
Oh, Helen Thomas, who is that?
Entelechy, you didn’t know? – today’s moon bat!
RobertHuntingdon, you savvy
You taught me “Crazy people are also considered “batty””
Pistolero said “Wikipedia is not often very accurate”
Who said so is the media? Oh no, it wasn’t Wikipedia
I thank you both for your orientation
And all on board for your sophistication
Michelle, Bryan and Allah, what a delight!
Remember, though, bats don’t like the light!
Entelechy on May 16, 2006 at 5:23 PM
You nailed it, Tony! Make it a habit!!
JodyBlonde on May 16, 2006 at 5:26 PM
Helen Thomas pin-up girl of the libs.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 6:24 PM
Tony Snow has class and finesse.
That DICK David Gregory and “Broom Hilda” Thomas are clearly antagonistic, combative, volative and “blame America first” with their rhetorical vomit.
How do we rid ourselves of these two? The insensitive and vicious crap that spews from their lips make it to the old media and into the mindless.
doingwhatican on May 16, 2006 at 7:04 PM
Helen Thomas, the hottest woman in the Dimmocrap Party.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 7:09 PM

DWC–”Broom Hilda”–hee hee hee.

speed647 on May 16, 2006 at 7:15 PM
I betcha Bill Clinton gets turned on by Helen Thomas.
birdman on May 16, 2006 at 7:32 PM
Tony needs to put 4-6 chairs up front and assign them to bloggers. He also needs to put in some ‘time-out’ chairs in the back corners. Hey, it usually works for people of similar maturity of action.
Mike O on May 16, 2006 at 7:48 PM
birdman, Billy Jeff thought a mummy was “hot”, once upon a time.
doingwhatican on May 16, 2006 at 8:14 PM
Snow is good and effective. Too little too late?
hestrold on May 16, 2006 at 8:15 PM
Carl Rove may very well be a more astute politician than the toe sucker….but I wonder and worry that ousting Scott for Tony was too late in the game.
Yes; he loves the rope-a-dope: bringing the enemy in..closer, closer, closer, until THEY commit..then BAM. Until he sees the whites of their eyes.
He still has time before the election, but what is Tony to do with the ROTTEN clay (illegal immigration) that Bush will ask him to make into anything pretty?
I’d bet my eye teeth that as far as [illegal]immigration is concerned, Tont Snow is turning toward his wife on his pillow at night and asking her, “What have I gotten myself into?”
Guaraneffingteed.
Sorry, Michelle. I had to vent.
Jimmyboy1 on May 16, 2006 at 9:35 PM
Someone needs to tell that woman that she died, so she can go back to her grave already!
Just another infidel on May 16, 2006 at 9:38 PM
50 bucks says Helen smells. That’s why Martha Raddatz has that perpetual scowl on her face. She’s been sitting next to HT for too many years.

Silly – it was Nosferatu. She was the lead. I think she got the Oscar that year.

I watched our Tony this morning and was glad to see that an adult is in charge, FINALLY. His impressive intelligence, combined with the ability to formulate and communicate his thoughts to this bunch of cretins is truly amazing. But they still think they are in charge..or so Helen Troll thought she was….her snide comment about wire taps did not go unnoticed. Tony needs a bit of seasoning and he will have them in their place…..the truth always wins and Tony carries the truth.
Sandys Beach on May 16, 2006 at 10:23 PM
…and I was going to add something nasty about Birdman’s’ comment about Bill being turned on by Helen. But my fingers will not work with that image in mind. BLECH!!!! ..running to the john!!!!!
Sandys Beach on May 16, 2006 at 10:30 PM
Tony can bring decorum to the briefings…if nothing else, by example. And I love how he didn’t let them run with a false premise or a heresay column.
I doubt that he is concerned about what he’s gotten himself into. Based on what I’ve seen, he’s thrilled to be there and plans to be an asset to the President. Maybe he will communicate the President’s agenda a little better to US!
I agree with Fred Barnes. The Administration needs to put him on as many talk shows, news panels as is possible. He’s a keeper.
jatfla on May 16, 2006 at 10:41 PM
I have to admit, I didn’t really know much about Tony Snow until he was given the job, but having seen this today, I say that W. hit a home run with this pick. It would have been nice if he’d done it sooner, but it’s good that someone is there who can stomp on that gross old witch in such a nice way. Good job Tony!
Jezla on May 17, 2006 at 1:14 AM
I can’t hear it. Anyone know links with better/louder audio or with transcripts in writing? Where can we watch daily briefing videos on the internet?
Tony is a natural. I think I’ve just found a replacement for daily entertainment. I’ll keep HotAir and Lucianne.com, of course.
CountryDoc on May 17, 2006 at 1:14 AM
C-Span.org is always the best place to find videos. Their server is fast and reliable, and the video will run in a number of players.
I really like Mike O’s idea of creating a blogger row in the press room. Somebody email Hugh Hewitt and ask him to talk to Tony about it!
Lynx on May 17, 2006 at 1:59 AM
Tony Snow remains a class act endowed with finesse, and I fully enjoyed watching him patiently explain to Helen Thomas the facts of what was really reported in the USA Today paper. I am sorry that we couldn’t see her face during that exchange though…
Maybe if Mr. Snow was to talk to our senators he could wake them up as well?
DannoJyd on May 17, 2006 at 2:45 AM
Dread Pirate Roberts:
You can get the whole press briefing at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/05/20060516-4.html
Video is available.
rndnum on May 17, 2006 at 3:55 AM
The true beauty of this situation for me is that Mr. Snow’s smooth eloquence and strict adherence to facts, history and reality will trump liberal “Gregory/Thomas” type diatribes every single time. God bless him.
Now I will pray he wakes up the Congress and George as to this illegal invasion onto our soil. OK, it’s not the Press Secretary’s job, but if not him to do it, who then? The voices of us mere constituents don’t seem to matter!
horsepower_1st on May 17, 2006 at 8:36 AM
Helen Thomas is an embarresment. She has no tact, no professional skills and very few active brain cells. She comes off like some drunk that stumbled into a press conference. She needs to be escorted out of the room and provided with a swift boot out on the street. Just another example of how our culture has forgotten how to deal with misbehavior.

Being on dial-up, I don’t download many videos. I just read the transcript of the news briefing. Only very few of the questioners’ names are mentioned, and Helen Thomas isn’t one of them, but I knew immediately which question and exchange was hers. What a batty old fool.
Tuning Spork on May 17, 2006 at 1:06 PM
Between Helen Thomas and Maureen Dowd, I can’t get past their editorals without wanting to hurl.
As Bugs Bunny said, “What a Maruoooon!”
Kini on May 17, 2006 at 2:35 PM
Having Helen front and center during the press briefings is actually a good thing for the administration because it shows us all what those in the Left really are all about. The rest of the MSM try (not well) to seem objective, but Moonbat Helen has just given up on attempting to report on the news, and just focuses purely on bashing this administration. Tony is going to have a blast putting these people to shame.
Rick on May 17, 2006 at 3:01 PM
Dread Pirate ask “Anyone know if the entire briefing will be rerun? ”
You can go to Whitehouse.gov and see the entired press briefing.
Great post Allah – a belated welcome back from a long time fan.
Ann on May 17, 2006 at 3:28 PM
As an old woman (ugly, but at least not fat), I have to beg for mercy on her for her age since we all age, if we are fortunate. What I can’t forgive her for is her motor mouth and stupidity which she should have outgrown. Of course, if she had outgrown both, she wouldn’t be in the press pool.
I’m so thankful that we have Tony Snow on board — thank God for the bright and the quick, like Michelle and my children!
Margaret McC on May 17, 2006 at 6:52 PM
So, Helen is thinking of duplicating what Hot Air has done, but for the Democrats maybe. Wow, that’d be some video.
