Yale thankfully has someone in the student body, who has experience dealing with these women if they show up at that institute of higher learning showing their faces and forgetting their modesty during sport competitions.

Unless those things are skin tight, it won't do much for their times. Then, as under Sadam and Ude, they will have a part of their body cut off for not winning.

BTW - I love Groupers comment - soooo right on!!!

labwrs: For the woman living under Muslem law it is terrifing, you are no more that A slave, to be used or abused as your husband (master) sees fitting. A woman is nothing more than an object, and treated like dirt, to be dicarded at will.

I lived in Paris 2002-4 while the hijab in schools debate was raging. It was my first upclose and personal experience with women who were clothed head to foot. They didnt look human to me..they looked like chattle. Invariably the men with them were wearing casual and comfortable clothing while the women and girls were forced ( yes FORCED!) to resemble a clump of fabric. They dont even look HUMAN in those things! Every single time I see a woman like that it looks like slavery to me! I do not believe for one second this is voluntary..it is indoctrination and intimidation by men who are afraid of women. I attended the demonstrations and attempted once to take pics of the men with sticks "instructing" the covered women when to chant..they threatened me and only a big French riot policeman intervened. To this day I am disgusted with myself for NOT shooting the pics, instead I ran away from them like the girl I am. And if the scared and intimidated me in that moment when I could get away from them, what is it like every minute of every day? It terrifies me.

This is ridiculous! I can understand the philosophy of modesty, but to make those women wear restrictive clothing during sports event is simply foolish, especially during swimming where wet clothing adds weight. Wearing the tight "Bay Watch" swim suits during contests or the T-Shirt and bikini shorts during track meets does NOT suggest promiscuity or loose morals on those women. It is a SPORTING event!!!!

This reminds me of the Miss Afghanistan situation where Afghanistan sent a constestant to some beauty contest where one of the events was the swimsuit competition. Miss Afghanistan took part in that event. She was then condemned by the Afghan Womens Affairs Committee of the Afghan Govt for wearing the bikini and I think she faced some type of punishment for it. Indeed, then what was the purpose of her competing in the contest in the first place????

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing sensible about this type of sensibility.

The 100m butterfly is to be immediately followed by the always popular wet burka contest and then a public execution for immodesty and immorality
