I am so dismayed by our elected officials response to this issue. It seems it would be so easy to take care of.
1. REALLY secure our borders...national guard on duty while barrier is being put in place along the entire length of the border with Mexico.
2. Stiff penalties for business who hire illegal alien workers.
3. Once the first two were in place the third issue of what to do with the illegal immigrants in this country would be taken care of. No job, no papers, no services and they would all be traveling the other way...

El Presidente Jorge Booosh, Presidente De Estados Unitos De Mexico.........

You all must understand that since King Jorge Booosh became presidente, some of our laws were changed behind closed doors. Before Jorge can enforce any of our laws, specifically our border laws, he must first confer with King Fox. King Fox has total authority in all aspects of our borders. King Jorge, rightly aplogized to King Fox for talking about depolying some Gaurd troops on the border. He did not check with King Fox first. Our beloved Lordship and King assured King Fox that his subjects (also called tax payers) will REPENT and stop complaining about the rightful and real citizens that cross our borders from Mexico. Hail to our King, Senor Jorge Booosh. I bow and honor him so dearly, we are not worthy of his great leadership.

A loyal and faithful Subject

True Margaret, since the left is anti-war and dislikes us conservatives they would probably be glad to see us go. At least until the country went bankrupt because of all the social services that no one would pay for.
A few things to think about if it came to fighting to keep the Union.
Liberals are typically small in stature and easily thrown about. This is from their diet of tofu and sprouts.
Being anti-gun, most of them would have to fight with protest signs and folk singing.
Pretty easy fodder for a couple of red-blodded, cute animal meat-eating, fur-wearing, gun-toting, family-loving, tougher than boot-leather guys from Texas.

Well, I think it's pretty evident the Prez has an agenda and it sure as hell doesn't include us, the American people. You have him calling the MinuteMen vigilantes, the Arizona governor doing everything in her power to thwart attempts to control that border, the Border Patrol instructed to tip off the mexican authorities on where the MinuteMen are, releasing illegals, Schwarzenegger says we shouldn't use the military..........Hmmmmmmmmmm.

So whatcha think? We're all standing in crap up to our eyeballs from these lying politicians.......and I mean all of them except for the brave few.

It just plain smells like a rat. Don't know what else to say.

This is a very, very difficult situation for GOP voters. Under NO circumstances can the war be handed over to Democrats in 2008 (and not even partially now in November). I see no way to avoid a schism in the party over this "immigration" debacle, yet: wouldn't it be ironic if we deliver the Dems - and thus al-Qaeda - their dearest dream next election day?

There is some legitimate concern about how deportation, if successful, would affect our economy in terms of undermining housing prices (immigrants buy up the old housing stock enabling the sellers to buy newer houses, etc.) Also, what happens to people who have been here for decades and have nowhere to live in Mexico?

I favor curtailing immigration completely except for humanitarian reasons -- victims of genocide, for example. We are already a crowded country and running out of natural resources. We have opened up our country to so many diverse populations and cultures and religions that we are effectively Balkanized. We are threatened by old diseases again and new exotic diseases from around the globe. Plus, after five years, the elderly chain-migration family members get to tap into Medicare and Social Security. No wonder those programs are headed for bankruptcy.

I once figured that if we descended into a Banana Republic that our military might stage a coup and return us to freedom once they cleaned up our laws. Sadly, I have cousins who attended West Point and I discovered that they are anti-war and PC fools. That was truly disheartening.

Re: Secession -- It may come to that and since the Left is anti-war, would they mobilize and fight to keep the Union? Not likely. Don't forget that Alberta is a province with a young, more conservative population who dislike the liberals who run things from Ottawa. They would be natural allies and they have oil and other natural resources.

Meanwhile, write your letters to the editor and call your representatives -- keep pushing back at the Left. They aren't used to taking criticism. Speaking bluntly can be very effective. We need to be on the offensive to keep them on the defensive.

It isn't just Bush procrastinating about the border. It seems to be the ENTIRE CONGRESS with the exception of a brave few. They're soooooooo far removed from the American populace and seem so enchanted with power they're literally disregarding what the vast majority of the American people have demanded.

Let's face it folks, other than the abortion issue, there is absolutely nothing which differentiates the GOP from the Dems. I never thought I'd say that, but sadly enough, it's true.

Like Rain Man, I too expected less spending, more conservative judges, and all of the other issues I used to think Conservatives stood for to take priority. 6 years ago, with the Senate, House and White House finally under GOP management, I stupidly made the assumption that our goals would finally be achieved. You know, things like smaller government, reduced government spending, social security reform, lower taxes, secure borders, etc. Other than the Bush tax relief leglislation, our reward for voting GOP has been increased spending, massive illegal immigration, more and more layers of government, no social security reform and conservative judicial nominees abandoned under the threat of Democratic filibuster. What we have here are a bunch of spineless, gutless, finger-in-the wind RINO's absolutely terrified to stand up for their convictions.

Now, we have a President and Congress letting a corrupt Mexican government influence our border and immigration policies. You gotta be kidding.

I hate to admit it, but, if Nancy Pelosi stood up tonight and said effective tomorrow, every illegal immigrant will be arrested and deported and all of our existing immigration laws would be enforced, she'd have my vote.

Thanks for re-opening registration.

I think President Bush would do better to soothe the conservative base of his electorate.

If something isn't done about the illegal alien problem then we can all bid good-bye to our way of life.

The President and the congress-critters have a DUTY and an OBLIGATION to protect and defend the U.S. and the constitution of the same, if they can't get it together and do so then they deserve a pinkslip from the American people.

Duty, Honor, Country

Mr. Norwood said:
"But there's another troop formula, a la Janet Napolitano, designed to win public opinion points without really changing anything, to hoodwink the House into going along with the Senate's grotesque amnesty plan, and to leave the southern border open to new waves of illegal aliens"

He's right about that amnesty plan being "grotesque" and prior to the above portion of the article he outlined how troops on the border could effectively stop illegal immigration without having to enact new laws. So, the President has a choice between doing the right thing or appeasing Mexico, some voters and, sadly, many politicians. I fear he will go all Neville Chamberlain on us and choose appeasement.

to pay for the wall- Fine each illegal invader alien $1,000. They all paid more to sneak in. 12 million x 1,000 = 12 billion. Divided by 1,951 mile Mexican border equals more than 6 million dollars a mile to build a fence and secure our border. If they claim they cannot pay- have them build it.

All so called anchor babies born to Mexicans in the U.S. are also Mexican citizens and so can be deported along with their parent/s.

All Mexicans legalized as Americans can vote in Mexican elections and American elections. So they get to vote twice.

Mexican constitution preserves Mexican culture and Mexicans only can serve in the legislature and many jobs. So it is a very racist and nationalistic constitution.

msplitt's experience at the Red State site is an example of why the Republicans are in danger of losing the majority. Apparently we're supposed to swallow any malarky they feed us, touch the "R" on our nice new touch screen voting machines every election, and shut up.

Funny, I expected less spending, more conservative judges, and an administration mentality that didn't appear to accuse me of bigotry for wanting secure borders.

Vincente Fox telephoned our President to express his 'concerns' about the National Guard and what did Bush do? He reassured el Presidente Fox instead of America's citizens!

Even before he delivered his speech, allegedly to protect our southern border, Bush assured Mexico he really doesn't mean it, and will thus allow Vicente Fox to continue to shuffle Mexico's poor across the border and onto the backs of taxpaying Americans.

I sincerely hope that America's people do not succumb to this latest political ploy designed only to sustain and continue the invasion of our nation.

So, it begs the question. Has the Bush administration allowed some type of "acceptable" number of terrorists to enter our country from Mexico. If the answer is no, then logic would say Bush would have already sealed the border 100% with troops. By leaving it open, he must have made the decision that "some" terrorist infiltration is "acceptable".

Yep, I was actually banned from Red State, a Bush a** kissing site where you can't speak ill of our President. I asked why isn't this Treason, or at least an impeachable offense, taking an oath to enforce the laws of our country, then refusing to do so. I was kicked out and told to go post on DKos.

A lot of people talk about the border in terms of "security issues" and "possible terrorism" but do not want to hear the specifics, which are terrorists have already crossed the border and are now living in our cities waiting to strike. And it's inconceivable Bush doesn't know this.

You hit it right on the head there. What you said above is what so many simply refuse to understand when addressing terrorism in this country.

Methinks it means he's been very successful in pulling the wool over our eyes and telling us what we want to hear. Only now it's gotten to the point where people are starting to smell something rotten. All we can do at this point is write the white house, our senators and representative and bitch like hell. I know I have. Are the American people pissed off enough to stage massive protests? Will they miss a day of work to show how they really feel? You wanna shut down the economy? Let your average joe and jane decide not to come in for a day.

See, you can't separate terrorists from Mexicans when talking about border crossings. If Bush fights to keep Mexicans streaming across the border, he is knowingly fighting to keep the border open for terrorists. Our border is not equipped with "Muslim detectors", allowing only Mexicans to pass and zapping terrorists.

So if George Bush is knowingly aiding our enemies, and fights at every step to continue to aid our enemies, what does that mean? Where do we go from here?

Amen brother. It's all or nothing. Sending the military to the border, and then tying their hands behind their back. It's a disgusting joke. Let them patrol the border. Let them fire warning shots at approaching mexicans and terrorists trying to cross. If they don't stop, arrest them. If they resist, do what soldiers are trained to do with a hostile force.

Thanks for your service RustMouse. Anyone returning from Iraq should be the last to be put on the border. But I agree with you. It's a sham, a political stunt. Anything to buy time so he can continue to sell this country out. I used to really believe in Bush with his effort in fighting nutbag islamists. Now I think the only reason he's doing it is to protect his cronies. Something smells fishy with this border thing. His inaction has been way too blatant. Way too cozy with el hombre Vincente too.

msplitt: of course it aids our enemies. what a joke this has become. He's in someone's pocket and it's getting clearer all the time.

I've been National Guard for over 17 years now. In the last three years, between all the deployments, I've been home less than 8 months. Now, they wish to mobilize us for more duty, and waste our time in a sham political stunt? Most of the guard in my state has returned recently from the Middle East, and we still have the burden of typical duties (fire fighting, civil disturbance duty, etc) and they wish to uproot our lives to send us down for "administrative support"? That's a waste of both taxpayer money and our time.

Give us a meaningful mission, actually protecting our borders, and I'll be the first to volunteer. Keep using us for a press photo-op and I'll be the first to turn in my retirement packet!
