Moussaoui Asks for a New Trial

Convicted “20th hijacker” Zacarias Moussaoui is asking for a new trial, apparently because the last one just wasn’t the thrill ride he expected. “Ridiculous!” cries Stop the ACLU:

“Moussaoui wishes to withdraw his guilty plea because when he entered the plea his ‘understanding of the American legal system was completely flawed’,” his lawyers said in the motion.

Moussaoui said in an affadavit “I now see that it is possible that I can receive a fair trial” in the United States.

“Even with Americans as jurors,” he went on, “I can have the opportunity to prove that I did not have any knowledge of and was not a member of the plot to hijack planes and crash them into buildings on September 11, 2001.”

So what are the odds this guy gets a new trial? Given the hair-brained way things are going these days, with even President Bush disavowing incarcerating captured terrorists, probably not as bad as you’d think. One thing these terrorists have been trained to do–and yes, in spite of his odd after-last-minute change of heart, Moussaoui is a terrorist trained by al Qaeda–is game the Western media and legal system. They’re trained to lie about what happens to them in prison in order to gain the sympathy of the likes of the ACLU and Amnesty International, which then write up scathing reports that fuel bogus stories about Koran flushing in Newsweek, and the terrorists are trained to use whatever means they can find to mess with the courts including using their lawyers to shuttle messages in and out of prison. Right, Lynne Stewart? So today’s retraction is probably just another terrorist gambit. And for that reason, it may gain some traction.

Over to you, Human Rights Watch.

By the way, Moussaoui has just become the poster boy for handling all terrorist cases via military tribunals. Civilian courts just aren’t the proper venue for dealing with war criminals. Not that anyone in Washington has the spine to make that argument now.

Not surprising. Which happens first, Zac’s new trial, his first book is released, or the Memorial gets STARTED?

I think they should free the guy and make him go live with the head of the ACLU. Knives optional.

As he departed the courtroom, he growled that “America lost and I won”. Now he cries he lied…that’s perjury. The “usual suspects” will be forming in the sympathy line for him and his new trial and ultimate release.

I believe he finally saw what the rest of his life will be like being buried alive in his new home called solitary confinement.

Give him the rope.

doingwhatican on May 8, 2006 at 6:55 PM

Well, if he can get back out on the street he would be a potential candidate for the Democratic party! After all, all you need is name recognition and a passionate hate for America…….

sMack on May 8, 2006 at 7:12 PM

Oh, he didn’t think we’d be fair? Oh hell, anybody could make that mistake…

After all, we are infidels. But now he realizes, he was wrong about us.

Oh hell, it was just an honest mistake, who hasn’t made an honest mistake??

Somewhere out there, there are liberal lawyers (and judges) lining up to get him a new trial.

Gee, I thought he had won!

Moussaoui: “Do over! Do Over!

Me?

I hope I don’t live long enough to hear the tripe that begins:
“He’s paid his debt. . .”
“He’s an old man he can’t hurt anyone. . . ”
“He’s changed in prison. . . ”

And I plan to live a long time!

I can’t imagine that this trial judge will grant a motion for a new trial — no matter how liberal she is, she put up with a lot of Zach’s crap over the past few years and made sure along that he understood the process. I’m also not sure he’ll get much relief from the Fourth Circuit if and when he appeals the denial of a motion for a new trial. As I’m sure most of you know, the Fourth Circuit isn’t filled with too many liberal judges.

I have faith in the courts on this one. Hopefully they won’t prove me wrong.

Again, he lied; therefore, he must be a democrat.

Whither, rot and die in absolute aloneness.

doingwhatican on May 8, 2006 at 8:01 PM

I guess the idea of living out the rest of your natural life in a 7 X 12 cell doesn’t appeal to Zac. Should of thought of that earlier. I agree with you completely on the idea of military tribunals handling these scum as opposed to our bureaucratic court system.

I’m all in favor of martyrdoom for good old Zachie that way we can make doubly sure he’s going to be a good old boy! Why don’t we send him a good strong rope, one braided with ultra thin strips of hog leather!

Of course, in the event of his untimely death, a successful appeal would be moot, so to speak!

DougW on May 8, 2006 at 8:52 PM

What happened to that defiant Massaoui who declared “America lost” when he was handed life in prison?

Poor guy… It only took a few days in solitary confinement to figure out that he wasn’t going to be a martyr after all – and now he wants out.

He’s not going anywhere. Like th judge said – he will die with a whimper.

I think if he does get a new trial it will be just another nail in the coffin of our great country. The appeasement and tolerance movements have become completely out of control. The Judicial branch is almost impotent from liberal controls. Our Legislative branch is almost impotent from special interests, pork spending, and appeasement. Our Executive branch has become spineless and impotent.
I support Bush im saying as a whole the Executive branch is not what is used to be. You think Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Regan would have taken the crap from other countries that current Presidents have in the past? I think not!

the observer on May 8, 2006 at 10:37 PM

He’s just following the playbook.

greenpiece on May 8, 2006 at 10:41 PM

Find a new jury.
Give him a new one day trial.
Find him guilty.
Sentence him to death.
Hang him.
Forget him.

I’m telling you…this drama is not over yet. The ACLU and the limosine liberals will get involved. Hollyweird will get cLooney or Baldwin to play Moussaoui. They will get someone else who looks evil, but acts and sounds like an idiot, to play Bush.

Maybe they will have Moussaoui testify before the House if the Democrats take it back? Can’t you see Nancy Pelosi (aka Skeletor) holding his hand, and comforting this man who was wronged by the big bad USA! Impeach Bush! Free Moussaoui! will be their mantra…

Maybe he’ll get out and get offered a seat on The View as the first male on the show. He can sit next to the Bloated Loudmouth and commiserate about the Evil Empire…

However, I do feel sorry for Moussaoui. So, out of the kindness of my heart…I feel that we should all send some pacifiers to Supermax for him to suck on…

hoosier_federalist on May 9, 2006 at 9:01 AM

Okay,,new trial…just let me be the JUDGE.

gary on May 9, 2006 at 6:25 PM

I am thinking that for Moussaoui to ask for a new trial because he claims that he lied, he believes that he can actually get a new trial. He probably feels this way based on what he sees as America being indecisive about the war, how to fight terrorism, and how Pres Bush is being made to look like the enemy.
