Gritty American cop “drama” keeps Iraqis glued to their sets

“‘The show is shown on an Arab station with Arabic subtitles,’ said a rep for the network, ‘and the Iraqis think it is a serious police drama.’ ”

Insert punchline about security in Iraq being a joke here.

Blowback

Makes me wonder what they think about the episode where Jones and Rainesha join the Nation of Islam.

Hey, we can send them South Park, too.
It’s safe for muslims.

Ha. Yeah, good point. “All praises to the Allah.”

Allahpundit on May 7, 2006 at 7:59 PM

Just don’t send over “The Bugs Bunny & Road Runner Hour.” The carnage would be unimaginable.

fluffy on May 7, 2006 at 8:33 PM

Why don’t we send them the current HBO series – “Sopranos meets Brokeback Mountain”.

Richard Davis on May 7, 2006 at 8:53 PM

You’re kidding me, Michelle? Wait til they see the epidodes of Gomer Pyle.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

Kokonut on May 7, 2006 at 9:11 PM

Ha ha ha…I don’t want to imagine what would happen if we send them detective Vic Mackey

Ropera on May 7, 2006 at 9:53 PM

Wow. I can’t believe they take that seriously.

Tom Shakely on May 7, 2006 at 10:02 PM

And they probably think “24″ is great comedy.

Don’t you all remember that during the first Gulf War, the Iraqi propaganda ministry was trying to demoralize American soldiers by announcing that their wives back home were having affairs with various Hollywood types, including Bart Simpson? Here we are more than 15 years later, Saddam is gone, a new government is in place, but Iraqis are still having trouble separating fiction from fact. Perhaps decades of repressive government has eliminated the collective societal sense of humor, or at least the ability to discern fiction from reality. The more things change, the more they stay the same . . . . Kinda makes you wonder if self-government will actually work in Iraq.

I think this is sad. It really illustrates how little people in that part of the world know about us and understand us. Of course, the MSM probably loves it, since it keeps them from knowing what real Americans think.

As a former police officer I can tell you the show is not too far off from what really happens on police departments. The stories I could tell…the amount of freaks, weirdo’s, and deviates you meet is truly awe-inspiring. Not to mention the ones you work with… :)

I worked with people who reminded me Soooo much of the characters from the show (or vice versa) that it was scary.

hoosier_federalist on May 8, 2006 at 1:25 PM

I’m for sending them South Park. Especially the episodes that delve into the tumultuous relationship between Saddam and Satan.

violet on May 8, 2006 at 3:43 PM

I just hope Iraqi security personel do NOT, I repeat do NOT, incorporate any of Reno 911′s police procedures into their own duties.

……..Hoosier_Federalist, I don’t need to know that. In fact, that scares the crap out of me.

CmmnSns on May 8, 2006 at 3:59 PM

Send them episodes of “The Three Stooges”. nyuck, nyuck.
People in depressing times need a good laugh.
