[...] If success is measured by the attainment of goals, then Stephen Colbert’s performance at the White House Correspondants Association Dinner was successful probably beyond his imagination. Despite his lackluster routine, people seem to love the idea that he could so blatantly criticize Bush. Maybe they thought Bush would order him transported to some gulag somewhere? Regardless, Colbert has managed to garner more attention than Bush’s own performance with Steve Bridges, which was far funnier. Colbert’s ratings are up, and he’s getting all kinds of fawning media attention. Many people are attributing the pull of his videos from the internet as some kind of conspiracy, but it’s just C-Span trying to follow copyright laws. However, the transcript of his monologue can be found here, but it’s no funnier reading it than it was watching his tortured recitation. Hot Air has more about the conspiracy to blacklist poor Stephen Colbert. Tags: Stephen Colbert, White House Correspondants Association Dinner, George Bush [...]

Absolutely great Michelle - very funny.

It's apparent that the Libs have found another right in the Constitution that nobody knew was there for 200 years - the right to be thought of as funny (even if you're not).

I think Colbert might be getting less press from the MSM because he mocked them as heavily as he mocked President Bush. They love a good joke when it's the President or Republican party that is the subject, but when they are the butt of the joke, they get a little thin skinned.

A little part of me feels all my postings on the United 93 forums attacking the tin foil hat conspiracists and moonbats gave Michelle the idea of wearing the alien-thwarting crown in this episode!

It's kind of boring without the U93 forums any more.

As most of us probably are in here, I am a conservative. That having been said, I enjoy watching Colbert on TV, which is probably why I was disturbed with my own reaction to his White House Correspondant's Dinner schlock.

I think Colbert's absence-of-mention in a few big MSM outlets can be traced to a single simple fact(let's not forget Occam's [SP?] razor here, folks): It wasn't his best material.

If Colbert is constantly saying stuff he doesn't believe in, that's fine. He's a satirist, for Pete's sake, and more than a blush better at satire than Al Franken is, in my opinion. But you go with what works, right? And I think Colbert made the horrible miscalculation of showing his true colors, that's all.

So, now, let's see: cinco-de-mayo is a national celebration for winning a battle against the FRENCH?

Did they really WIN it? Or did the french just not show-up one day?

Does mexico ALSO have national celebrations for not-rolling-out-of-bed? Or not-tripping-over-the-curb?

Michelle,
Great vent, as usual. I have to point out to Wade and others that the idea that you "clean up real nice" is just not good enough. It is a matter of class. No need to clean up at all. In a sweat shirt & Chucks you would still look better than, and outclass anyone the liberals can put up. There isn't even a reasonable comparison to make. Too smart, too good looking. We win.

Forgot to mention;

I disagree with BrunoMitchell, I received my "HOT AIR" BALLCAP this week and it arrived in great shape and the quality's fine.

The price is VERY reasonable for such a nice cap. I have a large collection of hats and can spot a cheap one from a good one.

I consider it money well spent (to support you) and love to wear mine.

Michelle, can you publish at least your viewership growth rate stats? They must be fabulous. I have caught every vent since you started. Great site. The best in fact. But it could get larger audiences by multiplying the atraction factor. What about some other video blogs daily, like getting Ann Coulter to do a video blog on hotair daily too. Pretty soon, you'd have the audience of Fox news. What about some other video blogs, say by Walter Williams, Dennis Prager, Michael Savage, Michael Reagan, Ken Hamblin ("The Black Avenger"), David Horowitz. At that point, hotair.com would surpass Drudge.

Oh Michelle,

Great Vent. I try to catch it everyday. Your online video is top notch. Almost takes no time to load. Also, your Hot
Air site is a welcome addition to the blogosphere. Thank you for starting it.

Colbert wasn't his funniest last Saturday, but he has made me laugh at loud at least once or twice with some his work on the Daily Show.

Keep up the work. Look forward to seeing your Vent tomorrow.

Truth to power?

Where was this bravery when it came time to publish/broadcast the Danish cartoons?

Oh I forgot, it's far braver to ridicule the president to his face knowing that there won't be any consequences, rather than insult the "religion of peace" and perhaps meet a jihadist who might take issue with you.

Considering the moonbat's craven dhimmi submission to islamic self-censorship, for them to boast about this lackwit's "bravery" is pure unadulterated hypocrisy.

OK, Dennis Miller is great and we should see more of him.

Enough drooling over Michelle's looks! Her cerebral lobes are her best feature.

Just my humble opinion.

I thought Colbert gave a wonderful performance for someone of limited ability and intelligence. However, if he has an IQ above 85, then it was rather sad.

1. Jeez, Michelle, why must you taunt and tease us with your beauty?!? You were hot in Care Bear slippers, but this is just cruel!!!

B. Remember when "stalking" just meant having a crush on someone?

3. The moonbats won't listen to any critism from conservatives about Colbert - they'll just say that we're upset that we had truthiness spoken to us - but how can they ignore Richard Cohen's smackdown of this rude and inappropriate incident? (http://tinyurl.com/hvztb) A snip:
============
"Why are you wasting my time with Colbert, I hear you ask. Because he is representative of what too often passes for political courage, not to mention wit, in this country. His defenders -- and they are all over the blogosphere -- will tell you he spoke truth to power. This is a tired phrase, as we all know, but when it was fresh and meaningful it suggested repercussions, consequences -- maybe even death in some countries. When you spoke truth to power you took the distinct chance that power would smite you, toss you into a dungeon or -- if you're at work -- take away your office.

But in this country, anyone can insult the president of the United States. Colbert just did it, and he will not suffer any consequence at all. He knew that going in. He also knew that Bush would have to sit there and pretend to laugh at Colbert's lame and insulting jokes. Bush himself plays off his reputation as a dunce and his penchant for mangling English. Self-mockery can be funny. Mockery that is insulting is not. The sort of stuff that would get you punched in a bar can be said on a dais with impunity. This is why Colbert was more than rude. He was a bully."

When an ultra-liberal is scolding the moonbats, it shows just how far out they've gotten.
