Moussaoui to “speak out” at sentencing this morning

posted at 10:00 am on May 4, 2006 by Allahpundit

I was worried that he might not have another opportunity to grandstand and wish death on us all before being sent away to Supermax. Thankfully, it seems my fears were misplaced.

Standby for the embarrassing conclusion to this pathetic spectacle.

Update: He broke down in sobs and begged Brinkema to impose the death sentence, lest the glories of martyrdom be denied him.

No, just kidding. He did his usual little turn on the catwalk.

“God save Osama bin Laden — you will never get him,” Moussaoui declared moments after walking into the courtroom flashing a victory sign.

“You have branded me as a terrorist or a criminal or whatever,” he said. “Look at yourselves. I fight for my belief.” He spoke for less than five minutes; the judge told him he could not use his sentencing to make a political speech.

Upon leaving the courtroom, he turned to the custodian from the Supermax facility and said, “Sooo … what’s for dinner?”

J/k again. I hope.

Update: Brinkema tells him “you’ll die with a whimper.” Just like the rest of us.

Update: That story last night about France possibly demanding that he serve out his sentence back home? Not a rumor:

France and the United States signed two agreements in the 1980s about the transfer of convicts and Moussaoui’s mother Aisha el Wafi and his lawyer have asked that the Frenchman be allowed to serve his sentence in his home country.

“A possible demand for transferring Zacarias Moussaoui could be looked at within this framework,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattei said at an electronic press briefing.

Update: NRO didn’t get the memo about the Great American Martyrdom Denial of ’06 either.

I am somewhat disappointed he did not get death, although life without parole is OK for him also. The thing I always worry about is ‘without parole’. What does that mean, until some liberal Judge decides different? ‘Without Parole’ always reminds me of a lifetime guarantee associated with a product. Who’s lifetime, not mine if the company goes out of business.

In the Islamofascist world, this sentence will look like another American weakness. It will look as though we do not have the will to enforce our own laws. And, to a large extent, that is true. The dispute over illegal immigration is one glaring example.

Surely this will embolden Bin Laden and his ilk to try again, since it is apparent to anyone in the world that we will take stuff lying down.

If he is really isolated and can not receive news from the outside world, a couple of years down the road, I would hire an Osama look-alike and let Moussaoui have a glimpse from afar (5 – 10 seconds), that will keep him thinking for the rest of his life.

Now, this is real:
AP News today:

“Moussaoui’s mother Aicha El Wafi, pressed for her country to intervene. “My son will be buried alive because France didn’t dare contradict the Americans,” she said.

French authorities said Thursday they may eventually press the United States to have Moussaoui serve his life sentence in France under two conventions on the transfer of convicts. They were waiting to hear the conditions of his sentencing.”

Actually, I believe the correct position we assume is bending over, not lying down.

If he just lives out the rest of his life in super max ignored and silenced, I don’t think it much matters. If the media keeps his name in the news or tries to gain prison interviews where he can trumpet his Islamic BS, he might still do damage. Better to have given him the Tim McVay treatment. I liked the idea of tormenting him with an Osama look-alike; that would be sweet.

Any truth to the rumour that the DSCC is looking for him to run for Senate?

Steve L., I stand corrected! Too funny!

Description of the “cell” mussowi gets to live in: I bedroom furnished with TV, Radio, shower, toilet, etc. More comforts than home probably. I wonder if they will apply direction arrows on the floor pointing to Mecca?
I worked for Tx. Dept. of Criminal Justice some years back and the TV’s were all cable, so I guess he will be able to enjoy Fox news and also tune his radio into Rush.
His room will be 7 ft. X 12 ft…..that may be a tad smaller than some of your childrens rooms probably.

I demand recount! How about death by expert marksman? Bullets dipped in pig fat maybe?

Bang! “Ooops, did I get him in the leg? I better try again.” Bang! “Ooops, was that your arm? Sorry, my bad.” Bang!

Instead he gets life in prison, hopefully in a cell where the only view is of the American flag on the wall.

Condi ’08!

I am compelled to agree with Chappy. I’ll take it a step further. The fact that we lack the will, the hardness, the guts to enforce our own laws even against a POS like that speaks volumes about our country. I hate the fact that America has a yellow streak a thousand miles wide running clear through it.

We tell ourselves that it’s not cowardice, but that we are above fighting fire with superior fire. It’s not fair if we crush our enemies completely with extreme malice. By letting our enemies kill, humiliate, and taunt us we are demonstrating our superior compassion and morality. That is 90 proof Horse#@%t!

Sell that pathetic delusion to the families of the boys we’ve lost in every scrap we’ve been in since WWII, our men sacrificed and maimed needlessly on the altar of our imaginary high moral ground. It fills me with rage. We’ve played this suicidal charade for far too long.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve cursed the cowardice of our elected “leaders”, and some self loathing, bleeding heart idiot compares me to Hitler. I couldn’t care less. I’d rather be ruthless and walk away whole, rather than sacrifice my brothers so I can lie about how honorably our disgusting weakness got them killed.

Angry? I’m light years beyond angry. If we don’t have the stones to fight to win, we deserve to lose. Hell… we’ve already lost.

I’m mixed on this…in some ways, I’d like to lock him in a dungeon and make him suffer for 90 years. “Suffer” isn’t something that happens in US prisons. “Death by a thousand cuts” would have been nice, but that wasn’t on the list either. On the other hand, making him a martyr is bad also. Bullets dipped in pig fat, or maybe made of jacketed pig bones, would harken back to unconfirmed lore from the early 1900s — amusing to contemplate but less likely to be sanctioned in today’s politically correct environment than deporting 12 million illegal aliens. Paying to keep him incarcerated doesn’t seem like a good response to 9/11 either, so I’d support making him work to earn his keep at slave wages.

Now his mother is pleading to have him to serve his life sentence in France. That has possibilities. Unfortunately, the Bastille Saint-Antoine was demolished…

I would have preferred this loser to have faced death by firing squad in Time Square on a Saturday afternoon. But then, to know he is sitting in an AMERICAN jail, being fed by AMERICANS, eating AMERICAN-MADE food, breathing AMERICAN air in a kennel-sized cage having no contact with humans with plenty of time to think his crazy thoughts – for the next FIFTY years! (hah, hah, haaaaaaa..!) is such good visual.

It is more valuable to us to lock these sorry wankers away and let them rot than to kill them. To kill them is to martyr them. To also deny the sickos the 72 virgins (trying not to laugh) means more punishment. Then to have them see America not only survive the ‘Great Jihad’ but prosper in the next decades will eat at them. That is great punishment.
