Video of immigration activist: “People from Europe are wetbacks, man”

posted at 2:06 pm on May 3, 2006 by Allahpundit

Michelle has the rundown.

Full video is at the KSTP website. And here’s Goldstein writing yesterday on this very subject:

[W]e should draw a lesson from the charges of Bill Bennett’s “racism”—cast by those who don’t believe Bennett intended to say anything racist, but who insist, rather, that his words themselves were racist (an idea that grants that public perception is the locus of meaning, and that the utterer can be held accountable for the public perception). Such a dismissal of the importance of intent has led, predictably, to a rhetorical condition wherein those who protest the loudest (and can play to our emotions) will have effectively seized control of “history” as it is constructed and disseminated through language.

Update: The daughter of the last president to grant blanket amnesty holds true to typically dopey form, tying border enforcement to “rudeness.” Or something.

[O]n May 1, thousands of immigrants across the country marched and waved flags and professed their love for America. Doesn’t anyone see the irony in this? These are people who not only put up with the same climate of rudeness the rest of us do, but they’re paid poorly, they will never get their Social Security benefits (if they’re here illegally) and now there is a move to send them all away. Yet they sincerely love this country. They’re willing to see past our obvious shortcomings and work hard to live here.

This woman is a perfect example of how the minority groups in this country are allowed to be racist while at the same time complain about white racism.

All white people are racist!”

Eric12470210 on May 3, 2006 at 4:05 PM

I e-mailed this idiot’s employer, the president of the University of Minnesota (actually you have to e-mail his assistant and tell her to forward a message, since his e-mail isn’t listed) and told him it was nice to see he employed a racist AND and idiot, and told him to check her green card.

People like this are why are universities turn out blathering idiots.

clyde on May 3, 2006 at 4:15 PM

What is wrong with the UofM lately? First that one group of worms smeared red paint all over the military recruiting station, and now this woman with “Europeans are wetbacks,” and, “People of color don’t have the power to be racist.”

ZRyan on May 3, 2006 at 4:32 PM

In her video, this racist twit say minorities can’t be racist because they don’t hold power and therefore cannot not impose on “whites”. Hmmmmm, wasn’t the point of this May 1st protest for illegals a supposed show of their “economic power” over the rest of the U.S.?? According to her definition it was an EXTREMELY RASIST event.

Secondly, the second she walks across the border into her beloved mexican hell hole she is instantly a “majority” and no longer a minority. What a joke this whole thing has become. This twit should be fired and deported whether she’s a citizen or not. Give her back to mexico.

darwin on May 3, 2006 at 4:43 PM

As a lawyer, she knows she can get away with it – European-American is not a legally recognized group afforded additional protections under the law. Racist is such an overused term that one can no longer sue for defamation after being called a racist – the current law is that the word has no meaning.

Read a great piece on white guilt by Shelby Steele (http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110008318) – I’ll quote a small piece from him here. “Possibly white guilt’s worst effect is that it does not permit whites–and nonwhites–to appreciate something extraordinary: the fact that whites in America, and even elsewhere in the West, have achieved a truly remarkable moral transformation. One is forbidden to speak thus, but it is simply true. There are no serious advocates of white supremacy in America today, because whites see this idea as morally repugnant. If there is still the odd white bigot out there surviving past his time, there are millions of whites who only feel goodwill toward minorities.”

Can hyphenated Americans make the same claim? And what would we hear in response from our esteemed UofM Professor? Don’t forget another Big Ten professor, one Juan Cole has been hired by Yale to advance their Middle Eastern Studies program to maybe the 9th or 10th Century. Maybe the hyphen should be taken out of the American and we will all be one step closer to equality.

SOI on May 3, 2006 at 5:47 PM

Funny… she doesn’t look like a pure-blood american Indian.

Oh wait… they too are ‘wetbacks’ from Siberia (who crossed over the landbridge) aren’t they?

Yet another professional moonbat employed by our education system. Good luck getting her fired — how is Ward Churchhill doing?

CrazyFool on May 3, 2006 at 6:11 PM

No one should be surprised by this; the U of M is a collegiate moonbat roost and has been for years.

Also: the “Page Not Available” error message came up when trying to access the full video at the KSTP website. Interesting.

Stupid is as Stupid does. No wonder I keep noticing more dumb college grads as I age.
That woman was not only racist, but ignorant. What was that reference to saving our bleeping bleeps?? Since when has Mexico saved any of us in the United States. They have been anti- U.S. in all the World Wars (I and II). They applauded 9/11 in their cities. Give me a break.

gary on May 3, 2006 at 6:16 PM

This month’s issue of Archeology Magazine has an article titled “Impossibly Old America”. This article alludes settlers in America from Europe via the now accepted Trans-Atlantic route were here, possibly, thousands of years before this woman’s forebearers crossed the Siberian land bridge.

Win one for the “Wet Backs”.

Meant to say “now accepted Trans-Atlantic route THEORY”

A good first step in taking our country back would be to take our language back. Time to become immune to gratuitous accusations of racism.

dman on May 3, 2006 at 7:41 PM

“Minorities can’t be racist”…hope we don’t have the idea that that’s a far reach for the left in this country. It is one of their Ten Commandments. In my state, we taxpayers pay instructors to teach that very commandment to UConn students. And God help you if you disagree.

arch on May 3, 2006 at 8:17 PM

I suppose she’s right, technically. Racism does involve a level of power, the power being used to negatively impact someone based on race. She is simply a bigot, and a foul mouthed one at that.

right as rain man on May 3, 2006 at 8:18 PM

Watch and listen to the synapse…

just like the guy profiled on that show..about the hispanic National Anthem.

Mentally reading off talking points..trying..desperately…to belong TO something “powerful”. Why? Same reason why MOST people become lawyers: They feel powerless!

Watch the eyes..looking, glancing at the ceiling,,trying to remember what she is supposed to say…

If she works at a University, she’s in for life!

This woman is a real lawyer? This lady graduated from a Law School?!?!?!? And she passed the bar exam?!?!?!?!?! She rants like a high-school drop-out.

My opinion of the legal profession was low before, but I think it’s now heading into negative territory.

gilbert_sundevil on May 3, 2006 at 10:04 PM

How did she (or her ancestors), save my back??

Haha, she is soo blind to herself.

ryan on May 3, 2006 at 11:14 PM

Has anyone else detected that, with rare exception, those who shout “Racist!” the most frequently and loudest refer to themselves as (hyphenated)Americans…African-American, Mexican-American, etc.
I sometimes feel I am the only person remaining who recognizes the historical failure of every “Balkanized” State. We were a melting pot of nationalities as we grew to a world power; as we developed and improved our industries and technologies; as we fought 2 World Wars and the Korean war against emperialists, facists, and totalitarians. Our Government and educators are
And a thought: an immigrant is one who comes from another country for the purpose of changing allegiance to the new country. An alien swears allegiance to another. The US is not troubled by immigrants, but by aliens, including those who claim to be citizens but act and think as alien.

uremus on May 3, 2006 at 11:53 PM

EDIT…sorry…..Our Government and educators are rewarding those individuals and organizations which are “Balkanizing” the US, and isolating those who wish to return to the melting-pot concept which made us strong and unique in the world.

uremus on May 3, 2006 at 11:58 PM

How irresponsible can these so-called “leaders” get? They promote political agitation over solid, fundamental ideas about good citizenship and strong personal character. It’s a real disservice to the very people they claim to be fighting for.

What an utter embarrassment. I can only hope that most Latinos don’t buy into this victimhood BS because this woman is a complete disgrace.

Metro on May 4, 2006 at 12:09 AM

Why am I so intellectually vapid to be able to understand what the supposed elitists in this country can not understand?

I have never been to college.

I never finished highschool.

But I know when our borders are being invaded by another country. We are being invaded, and it is not small. It is huge, and if we continue to be gutless when it comes to border security it could turn into war over our borders with Mexico.

Actually I’m sad to say that I think it might actually be in our future. This is not good at all, this is more important right now than high oil prices. It’s more important than economy, or.. anything. Maybe short of the War on Terror. But not a lot, because it’s connected in a lot of ways.

However, this whole debate may well turn into a good thing. It’s bringing the whole subject to the forefront of objectivity on the part of the voting public. My own son, who is only fourteen years old, understands the ramifications of unleashed anti-American immigration, and he has learned it by way of, god forbid, public schools. (Weekly Reader) There is hope.

Let’s not forget the imperialism wich wrested the Central American paradise of human sacrifice from the indigenous empire, and sucked it up into the catholic-or-die invading empire–all before a single gringo had set foot in the hemisphere (unless we want to talk about the norse oppression of the Inca???).
All of this wanking over who was where first is going nowhere. If Mexico had retained the territory which it clearly DID NOT, it would not be worth inhabiting today. There would be no city of Los Angeles–there would be a great harbor going to waste north of Tijuana. All there would be is an ass-ton of Mexicans sneaking across the border about two hundred miles north of where they presently do so.
The fact is that the United States of America encompass the area the aztlanistanis are whining about, much to the benefit of both the US and Mexico. The reconquistitas know this and do not dispute it–what they want is the IMPROVEMENTS, not the original land. If they were truly interested in helping their Raza, thhey would hop across the border and put in some irrigation projects, establish some micro-credit networks, go WWOOFing or some other silliness. Why do they insist instead upon converting vast swaths of the Western WOrld back into the Third World? These people are coming perilously close to discovering the true depth of American resolve, at point-bank range.

“…against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”

I kind of like (Townhall.com columnist) Mike Adams’ definition:

“Racism is best defined as a pathological tendency to interject race into situations where it is not relevant, merely for personal gain.”

kmcguire on May 4, 2006 at 9:44 AM

OK, GREAT NEWS. Susann De Leon, the loudmouthed ass in the video calling Americans wetbacks is not only a racist, she is a LIAR. I got a response from Robert H. Bruininks, the president of the U of Minnesota when I e-mailed him about this jerk representing the University. He was well aware of it, he said, and told me she did NOT represent the views of the University, NOR IS SHE A PROFESSOR which she stated. She is a part-time teaching assistant ONLY, and has only taught 3 courses over the last five years in some waste of time called “Chicana Studies”.
He said the matter of her purporting to be a professor at the University has been referred to her supervisor who is taking this up with her as I type this. He said she will definitely understand her role at the University after this little display. The world is round, after all, sometimes. Like today!

clyde on May 4, 2006 at 5:28 PM

Minority activists have overplayed the race card – and have lost their credibility. Time NOT to react, and to simply ignore the charge as baseless. There is no point – or need – to defend against it. Just brush it off and press our point. Let them throw their tantrums.

dman on May 4, 2006 at 9:02 PM
