Eh. It looks decent enough, but I find Superman to be one of the more uninteresting superheros out there. He lacks a lot of the edge that characters like Batman, the X-Men, or even the Hulk have and his near-total invulnerability doesn’t lead to a lot of excitement when he’s up against tall odds. I love comic-based movies, but I’m probably waiting for the video on this one.
Kneel before Zod, new Superman movie!

If you want cool stuff – there’s a fanfilm (very high production) called World’s finest. It has batman and Superman togtehr and the trialer looks great. I’d rather have seen that in theaters than this. Do a seach for “world’s finest trailer” and enjoy.

Here’s the link for the trialer:

I’m having a hard time getting excited about this. There are too many movies being made that are just remakes of movies from 30 years ago, or of old TV shows. I thought the new “Shaggy Dog” was funny, but there has to be a limit somewhere. I’m waiting for Pixar’s “Cars.”

Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor is ideal casting.
…I hope Brainiac is in this one.

Is it me or does this Superman look like a wimp? I mean, c’moooooon! He looks soft, dare I say it – GAY!!
Why can’t they find a rugged tough looking guy to play Superman?
I think it’s another attempt by HollyWeird to sneak their gay agenda upon us. I can see the execs sitting around giggling, “wait till Red America sees their superhero! har har” (then kissing each other).
Look what HBO’s doing to the Sopranos!! It’s become “The Sopranos meets Brokeback Mountain”!! How many times do we have to see Vito kissing that other man??
And HBO is so sneaky about how they portray this new gay love interest of Vito. They have the gay mobster (Vito) living in a sleepy little all-American town in New Hampshire, filled with gentle white folks (looks very red-state, mid-west). And they introduce the other gay guy as an all-america male (no lisp, no feminine actions, no bizarre hair or piercings) just a totally straight looking guy, who also happens to be a VOLUNTEER FIREMAN AND A BIKER! And then this guy raises in and RESCUES A BABY from a burning building (picture looks very reminisent to the Okla bombing fireman….
HBO couldn’t make it more obvious of how they are trying to promote this gay guy as Mr Mainstream America, They create this wholesome image of a gay man in a small all-american town.
Too bad they don’t show the image of the gays I see walking around Philly, the creepy ones strung out on ecstacy, looking pale and infected, prostituting themselves.. Doomed to an early death, unhappy and miserable.
Remember the Batman movies? Recall George cLooney in a suit with built in nipples, and recall how gay Arnold looked as “Mr Freeze” and Jim Carey’s “Riddler” – all gay.. it ruined the movie.
HollyWeird would love to make have us believe that Mainstream America is typical of the gay culture.
And I believe this choice for Superman is another step towards slowly brainwashing society that gay is mainstream. They just keep jamming it down our throats….
Richard Davis on May 3, 2006 at 1:20 PM
And you sound so sincere.
ZRyan on May 3, 2006 at 2:09 PM
I’ll wait for the video, as usual. Not much will tempt me into paying $10+ to sit in a theater. This looks good, but like the previous Superman movies, I’ll likely be disappointed. Am I missing something obvious? Where is he returning from?
high_desert_wanderer on May 3, 2006 at 2:26 PM
Forget about the Superman movie. I saw the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 2–oh wow! Impressive! And I didn’t care much for the first one.
jaleach on May 3, 2006 at 2:42 PM
I follow pop culture so you don’t have to.
Superman allegedly “returns” after taking off after the events of Superman II (forget Richard Pryor and Nuclear Man ever happened). He’s been gone from Earth about six years, and it turns out Lois Lane, though still single, has a six-year-old son. Hmmm…
Director Bryan Singer bailed out on the third X-Men movie to direct this instead, so there’s a rivalry there. And yes, Singer is gay, so there’s been a lot of geek-talk about him “gaying-up” the movie Schumacher/Batman-style.
saint kansas on May 3, 2006 at 2:50 PM
What? the Director is gay? I knew it….. Why do all the gay people get the superhero movies?? No doubt they love the costumes, they make the scenes so that everyone looks like some Sado-Machocistic crazy party person orgy scene. They know how to film it, because they LIVE IT.
The only one who will look like a “conservative” will probably be Spacey as Luther (and his henchmen), this gay director will make him look like a Dick Cheney or G. Gordon Liddy and he’ll be real cruel and EVIL, I’m sure ha ha.
There’s no doubt this version of Superman will be “gayed-up” as you said. Thanks saint kansas, I appreciate the info. Take care.
Richard Davis on May 3, 2006 at 3:22 PM
Somehow I don’t think that it is any sort of new development that the well-muscled, yet always well-coiffed spandex-wearing, caped superhero has a rather homoerotic vibe. Of course, Richard may just see that as evidence that the gay conspiracy has been going on for decades.
Instead of what, the sex-crazed drug addict that you’ve convinced yourself is representative of homosexuals based on your observations of street walking drug-addicted prostitutes in Philly? That would be like basing your stereotype of the heterosexual male by hanging out in seedy strip bars, or by basing your stereotype of the heterosexual female by taking a drive down the strip in Las Vegas.
The only reason the image of a homosexual as a mainstream American is foreign to you is that you’ve never considered that a good 2-4% of the mainstream Americans you pass on a daily basis are actually homosexual.
Mark Jaquith on May 3, 2006 at 3:23 PM
While we’re all reminiscing, anyone remember when ‘gay’ meant ‘happy’, not ‘homosexual’?

So later this year can we expect Hot Air to run in-game footage of Halo 3?
Alex K on May 3, 2006 at 4:02 PM
I say enough of the theatrical versions of comic books and video games.
Well…
At least until Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six is finally a movie then I say “Enough of the theatrical versions of comic books and video games.”
allie on May 3, 2006 at 4:45 PM
Seriously – check out that link I posted above. Superman is huge and much less gay than the mainstream release.
2wylde on May 3, 2006 at 5:45 PM
Mark, I’m not stereotyping gays, as you conclude. I’m saying that HBO is using the most wholesome image in their indoctrination and brainwashing of America, especially our youth (23 or younger) to get their pro-gay agenda out and flaunting it in our face.
I’m not alone when I say, I’m fedup over the content of movies and shows coming out of Hollywood, Cable, and Broadcast TV.
Again, they’re all in cohoots, and don’t think for a minute that this twisted culture that they are jamming down our throats does not play a major role in why America has problems and people hate us.
Why does HollyWeird give honors to movies that glorify and flaunt the gay lifestyle? They rarely show the seedy side, which I spoke of.
And Why do they revel in showing the slimey side of any “red-stater” as much as possible?
Richard Davis on May 3, 2006 at 6:33 PM
The same thing that’s been said about Superman Returns was said about the first two X-Men movies, that there was some hidden pro-homosexual message secretly woven in there. The biggest allegation is that Singer casts with the little director’s head instead of the big one.
That would make him the FIRST DIRECTOR TO EVER HAVE DONE THAT!
The problem is, if there’s some agenda-driven story-telling going on (as was on display, obviously, in V for Vendetta), then they hid it well. Then again, if there really was some element of truth to that, it would’ve won an Oscar™.

I cannot say I am all that much excited about the new “Superman Returns” film. One thing, the Christopher Reeve Superman movies were during my childhood, and the first Superman movie just cannot be beat. It’s my opinion that the opening sequence of the first Superman movie is the best opening sequence of any movie I’ve seen. The strong, musical March with the credits coming in toward the viewer on the big screen was just way too cool. I have the Superman Collection on DVD, so I can watch the classics anytime. As far as I am concerned, the new movie was made out of desperation in order to cater to my generation of adults who grew up with the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Sorry, no cigar. I refuse to see the new film. It just cannot top the Reeve films, eye candy or not.
bradenmikael on May 3, 2006 at 8:44 PM
If their pro-gay agenda is the treatment of homosexuals as ordinary citizens with full economic rights, then yes, they’ve brainwashed many people into supporting that. If you’re talking about their plan to turn us all into sissified homosexual automatons, then no… that devious plan still only exists on the shelves of your local Christian comic book store.
Yet you still subscribe to HBO. Vote with your dollars. The Passion of the Christ killed at the box office. Hollywood may be generally distrustful of and antagonistic towards Christianity, but there is nothing they won’t do for a chance at your entertainment dollar.
…jamming down our throats, in exchange for our money. I’ve never been forced to watch something I didn’t want to watch. And I’d much rather that America be hated for its freedom (the necessary consequence of which is the tolerance of moral codes that may be different from your own) than be ignored for its irrelevance.
I’m not sure that Confessions of a Gay, Coked-out Philadelphia Prostitute would do well at the box office… not even among homosexuals.
Most Americans are themselves red-staters. Sex, violence and corruption are entertaining themes to many. I know I’m a big fan of 1973’s Walking Tall.

Who else here is old enough to remember the old Max Fleischer rotoscoped Superman animations?

Wow, Superman. Wow, another Poseidon Adventure. Wow, another Willy Wonka. Wow, what are they gonna REDO next??? Paint your Wagon?
Not only is Holly-weird, they apparently have lost their ability to dream up NEW movies. Hey wait, they ARE just like democrats, not a new idea among them!
NRA4Freedom on May 4, 2006 at 9:36 AM
This is why I stopped going to movies. Look at the “new” releases – most of them are sequels, prequels, remakes, or political statements; why bother? The last movie I actually went to see in a theatre was… uh… err… hmm… “Star Trek: First Contact”, I think. That was back in ‘96; ten years ago. Lately, I just wait for the DVD release; it’s usually cheaper than the movie ticket + soda + popcorn, anyway. And it usually comes with “extras”. Many’s that night I’ve just gone through my DVDs and watched the behind-the-scenes featurettes, the interviews, the technical backgrounders. Tonight: “Stargate: The Ultimate Edition”…
