Best VENT yet, Michelle! Close the borders, now.

PoppysBoy on May 1, 2006 at 4:01 AM

I saved all my shopping this past week, waiting for today – the ultimate “Buy American” day! As far as I’m concerned, it’s Christmas in May.

First stop, Wal-Mart.

Ed on May 1, 2006 at 4:37 AM

"¡Mi país no es su país! ¡Mi país NO es su país!" Practice it. Mean
it.

bdfaith on May 1, 2006 at 6:18 AM

Great idea, this boycott. Let’s extend it permanently. Drive the businesses that hire illegals OUT of business. Force the owners to hire legals only. Read the news for places that gave workers the day off. Ask places where you shop if everyone has legal status to work. Ask your contractor if they hire only legals. Look around your city for places closed today. Find out who their competitors are and patronize them next time. When they open tomorrow, keep driving by. The rest of us can’t take today off because WE WORK! Use the power of your wallet to make your statement!

Great rant Michelle! Keep up our fight!

kmackie6612 on May 1, 2006 at 6:28 AM

Excellent vent and makes me proud to know that while America was sleeping, Michelle Malkin was wide awake and spreading a grfeat good word!

DougW on May 1, 2006 at 7:23 AM

Best vent yet.

ecamorg on May 1, 2006 at 7:38 AM

Great vent. But call me stupid. I am not sure what that was that MM was holding at the end of the vent. Looked like a spatula to me.
Best Regards.

chow on May 1, 2006 at 8:02 AM

I’m furious when I hear politicians answering questions with platitudes in regard to the “bastardized” anthem. Do they NOT see the real agenda? And why are they pandering for votes to this bloc? Given the right to vote, what kind of detrimental legislation would these people pass (given they have little regard for the law)? I can’t imagine it gets much better than free medical care/schooling/housing and food!
I’ve sent the “cero pesos” back with the latest plea from the RNC. They’ve lost my vote, and next I’m considering withholding my taxes.

Leiren on May 1, 2006 at 8:13 AM

She’s holding a toilet scrubby.

And she’s right. There are no jobs that Americans won’t do. Just ask the miners of West Virginia.

Enoxo on May 1, 2006 at 8:19 AM

Michelle, I could not stand listen to have of that latin bastardization of our National Anthem and hated that flag display. I am also sick of the media covering it as a day without immigrants. Immigrants is NOT the issue! ILLEGAL immigrants is the issue! Why do they pander to this movement. As I type this ABC news just again said immigrants are boycotting schools. It is ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ABC!!

airgun1 on May 1, 2006 at 8:32 AM

You outdid yourself with today’s VENT Michelle!

I intend to check out what they’re doing in center city Philly this afternoon.

Will I see any friendly faces? I didn’t get my “Hot Air” hat yet, so look for the American Guy with the VFW hat and say “hello!”

Richard Davis on May 1, 2006 at 8:55 AM

In Houston MSM reporter is standing on KHOU in front of a Taquiera breathlessly reporting that it looks closed for the day, over her shoulder in the 7:30 am report is a sign,

OPEN AT 11:00 EVERY DAY

EricPWJohnson on May 1, 2006 at 9:02 AM

Well said! Let’s see what happens today. I personaly suspect the union organizers are only going to get so far…but we’ll see what happens.

Josue on May 1, 2006 at 9:09 AM

Exellent Vent. Spot on the problum. I really hope this opens some eyes.

MalkinFan on May 1, 2006 at 9:09 AM

Derb is right at The Corner this morning, let’s hope today’s protests are successful beyond anyone’s hopes and dreams. That will force everyone to finally address the illegal immigration problem once and for all.

Jeff Naylor on May 1, 2006 at 9:14 AM

AMEN to that Michelle! VENT ON MM! I am in a slow burn today. Smoldering about this entire thing. I returned to the US after living two long years in Paris..yep..that one! When I left, I told ppl Paris would burn in 5 years..it didnt take one! That is the result of the “guest worker” ..it creates an underclass that lives in its own ghettos and has no interest in assimilating. They dont learn the language or become part of the Country. It only creates a seething resentment on behalf of people who can see the Dream but can never acquire it. Can you imagine MILLIONS of resentful, unassimilated, MILITANT, “guest-workers”???? If you cant, look back to the riot in France in the Fall. Those will be on YOUR doorstep soon if we dont secure the borders NOW and begin making the US much less accomodating!

labwrs on May 1, 2006 at 9:33 AM

Thank you Michelle for pointing out the racist element at play here. “We are Latino”, says it all. These invaders are smart enought to understand that it’s OK to be united racially, as long as that race isn’t White!
The “street” term for what they are doing to our country is “punking.” They are looking us right in the eye and challenging us to do something about it. They understand so well what the MSM and public education have drilled into our national psyche for decades; that it would be better for country to simply die than for it to admit that 70 or so percent of us are White People!
Untill Americans lose their fear of being-God Forbid-a white majority, we will continue to be “punked” by those willing to take advantage of our own weakness! Enough is enough! What does Diversity really mean? Duh! It means LESS WHITE PEOPLE!

Gault on May 1, 2006 at 9:40 AM

OUTSTANDING VENT, MICHELLE!!!!

I wonder what the REAL REASON was for that guy from Great Britian to create this Spanish version of our National Anthem? Why doesn’t he translate God Save The Queen into Hindi or Arabic?

The reason why all of this is going on because Washington, DC has become…..WASHINGTON, PC!

INDEED, THE FEAR OF NOT GETTING REELECTED, THE FEAR OF SOMEONE’S COUSIN NOT VOTING FOR THEM IN THE NEXT ELECTION HAS OUTWEIGHED THE NEED FOR NATIONAL SECURITY AND OUR BORDERS.

TOO MANY OF OUR CIVIL-SELF-SERVANTS HAVE DECIDED THAT THEIR POLITICAL CAREERS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR COUNTRY.

The False Dervish on May 1, 2006 at 9:41 AM

Great Vent as always. Spot On! Michelle has more courage than any of our elected Non-representatives. It took this old man a few seconds to recognize what household item Michelle was holding at the closing. Maybe a plunger would be more appropriate and symbolic of todays Vent.

Wade on May 1, 2006 at 9:45 AM

Don’t you find it odd they come to the United States to protest? Why don’t they use all that energy and rhetoric a little further south, say…………like MEXICO. Go home…….change your own country. WE don’t need you, never have. Leave and your vacuum will be filled instantly.

darwin on May 1, 2006 at 10:02 AM

Wonderful Vent!

You, Mrs. Malkin, have, in brief, articulated, packaged and presented the frustrated views of the too silent (mostly attributable to today’s MSM co-op) ‘majority’ better than any.

. . . I’d vote for YOU in any election. . . .

MD Resident.

BJ Phisch on May 1, 2006 at 10:21 AM

Above posters are all sooooo right. I need to vent also.
Darwin..I have demanded an answer to that little question myself..and here it is: they would be shot and their family taken away, never to be seen again. Parts of my family emigrated to this country in the ’50s. They needed a sponsor, a job and a place to live. This uncle died a few years ago….a millionaire!! He was a tailor and a barber. They worked hard and never stopped…to say they were grateful to this country and its citizens is an understatement. One of his grandsons is a famous actor today…I will not reveal his name here but this is s true story of hope and hard work and if he were alive today to see what is going on, he would be so very ashamed. And wherever they built their homes, they enriched the neighborhood. What do you see with these illegals today?? neighborhood are destroyed, houses become unlivable and the crime rate amongst them is enormous. And that is another gripe I have….so many of these border jumpers are bad people…drugs and crime seem to be what motivates them. In their country they would be shot..no questions asked.
SEND THEM BACK! IF WE DO NOT THIS WILL BE A LESSER NATION FOR IT. A fence will not work…arm the borders and build a steel wall….patrol it with B52’s and shoot to kill.

Sandys Beach on May 1, 2006 at 10:25 AM

A “Day without Immigrants”? Hell, can we make it a week? Or how about a month?

To counter today’s boycotts, on Friday I will be boycotting Cinco de Mayo. No Mexican food, no cold Coronas, and will have to mow my own yard and clean my own house this week.

Robbie Cooper on May 1, 2006 at 10:26 AM

So. These peoples lives are so bad in their country, they illegally come to our country to find illegal work. Then they take money out of our economy, don’t pay taxes, and spend most of it south of the border. Then they start marching with signs that say things like “this is stolen land” and “reclaim California for Mexico.” Then they bastardize the national anthem and turn the flag upside down. Then they expect free college education for their children and welfare for themselves at our expense. Then they protest not being able to attend school or go to work by taking a day off from school and work. And now they expect mass amnesty, why? We’re supposed to sympathize with these people? Like Hell. LIKE HELL! The demonstrations today are nothing to me except a great opportunity to make arrests and deportations. I say start now, before the riots start.

Savage on May 1, 2006 at 10:31 AM

We took our kids to Schlitterbahn in South Padre Island, Texas yesterday for a day of fun in the sun. (FYI, this is on the border of Texas/Mexico). the predominant language spoken was…drum roll please…spanish. oh yea, and on the way back home last night, we were stopped at a homeland security/border patrol checkpoint somewhere in between Harlingen and Corpus Christi. The agent poked her head in the window and asked if we were all American citizens. “oh si, ocifer.” no checks, no searches, no nothing. we literally rolled through the checkpoint. so much for border security…
just one question – WHERE ARE MY REPRESENTATIVES WHO ARE LOOKING OUT FOR MY RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN??? short answer: they are catering to the protesters, wringing their hands and fretting over what to do. bunch of spineless wusses.

pullingmyhairout on May 1, 2006 at 11:13 AM

one more thing – i always tell my friends, “why visit Mexico? we already live there.”
ya’ll have a great day!

I just sold my condo in Cancun. The service there has been in decline over the past few years and now I refuse to spend one more dime in that Country. Who the hell wants to go where drugs are legal now? It is a shame because at one time Cancun was a great and very affordable getaway.

For the world – especially AMERICA – to get the message, the MSM should devote exactly 14 seconds to covering any walkouts, protests, etc. Any school teacher or student who is absent or walks out in protest of our laws should suffer consequences – suspension without pay for teachers & suspension for the students. Here in the midwest, I am sick at what is happening & how truely gutless our reps are in Washington. Having lived on the border (El Paso)I know the costs vs. the benefits of illegal aliens: the costs FAR outweigh the benefits. So, until we elect new reps who actually come with a spine that isn’t made of jelly, I see no cogent solutions coming out of all this mess. Keep venting Michelle – lots of us are standing behind, NO, make that BESIDE, you!

blueskieswoman on May 1, 2006 at 11:49 AM

Here Here! I urge us all to go out and shop today, due to the fact that all the illegals will be protesting, we won’t have to wait in long lines because of them!

TheStephenCoyShow on May 1, 2006 at 11:51 AM

Wow. Best Vent so far.

I’m a first generation American. Neither of my parents were born here, but they came here legally. These guys are fooling nobody with their ‘Immigrant Rights’ bull.

Even for leftists these protests hit a new low for being disingenuous and counterproductive.

Good.

lauraw on May 1, 2006 at 11:58 AM

Oh, btw, after being at home in EP recently, found MANY supporters of closing the borders completely. My next door neighbor was talking about how she & her family are “LEGAL and d*** proud of it!” These protests will only serve to strengthen the membership in Minutemen & to solidify those of us who DO respect the laws of our country. Also has had the effect of more people thinking about & FEELING our National Anthem – not the bastardized one which has enraged a LOT of people now that they are finding out it isn’t JUST a translation. Too bad Dean can’t understand spanish. Just adds to the list (in book form now) of the many things he already cannot understand.

blueskieswoman on May 1, 2006 at 12:01 PM

As a Canadian, I was surprised to hear Howard Dean talk about the Canadian National Anthem. First, of course, it was written in French but, more importantly, the English words were approved by Canada’s parliament. And, the English (and French) words are patriotic and are meant to unite, unlike the the Spanish words of “Nuestro Himno”. It’s almost as if the words to “O, Canada” ended with “we’re all Anglos now and we conquered you French, get used to it”.

mark on May 1, 2006 at 1:06 PM

Wow……I’m just speechless after listening to some pro-illegal goons on the boob tube. One of the sad effects of these protests is people are changing their opinions of hispanics, in particular mexicans, for the worse. Are they really that stupid to expect us to welcome them with open arms after they DEMAND “rights”? What a gold mine for a politician. I will vote for anyone with brass balls who will aggressively deal with this problem.

darwin on May 1, 2006 at 1:15 PM

Great coverage Michelle! It is just outrageous how American citizens are being sidelined in favour of these ungrateful, illegal migrants. America should stand up against this, otherwise the country would quickly lose its pride, and it will go downhill all the way from there. We in Europe support a strong America!

Nordish on May 1, 2006 at 1:19 PM

Part of the problem is a lack of term limits for the invertebrates in Congress. They are more concerned about future votes, than current ones. And I am sure that the party bosses also take a “long run” view of illegal immigration, and dole out the money accordingly.

I also think too many people erroneously assume that Hispanics will vote in a monolithic block for the next forty years, a la black Americans. Clearly the Republican Party is afraid of this. While the Democrats see illegal voters as the mirage du jour that will give them 51% of the vote again.

CaptiousNut on May 1, 2006 at 1:25 PM

The following companies have closed in support of their illegal workers. Please don’t buy products from these folks.

Perdue Farms
Gallo Wines
Tyson Foods

darwin on May 1, 2006 at 1:33 PM

Has anyone been seeing any action from the latino Major League Baseball players? I love baseball, and I’m not picking on the latino players-I’m just wondering if they have been feeling pressure from the activists to give up their thousands of dollars per day salary and refuse to play today. They are union members, and the unions seems to be pushing this agenda, along with the communists at ANSWER and illegalatinos. There-I made it one word.
Covetting what we have as Americans is not justification for trying to steal our citizenship. Go to the back of the line; if you do indeed love our country, obey our laws.

Doug on May 1, 2006 at 1:59 PM

Excellent vent, Michelle

Now lets do something about it – suggestion:

This Is An Election Year — Candidates Need Real Support

Save our pocket change and each time it amounts to $10 or more send a money order to a candidate that supports: Border Control, Immigration Control, Right To Life and Traditional Values.

And for good measure email the RNC and tell them where your money is going.

roydee43 on May 1, 2006 at 2:01 PM

Have been to Wal-Mart and McDonald’s.

Both as busy or busier than a normal Monday.

Worth noting that a lot of Hispanics ARE at work today, and not taking part in this boycott.

Lady Heather on May 1, 2006 at 2:11 PM

A pure translation of the anthem into Spanish is no problem for me. Changing the words to support a foreign invasion is the issue here, no matter what language you use to sing it.

Mark Jaquith on May 1, 2006 at 2:36 PM

Throughout the day, I have watched our various civil-self-servants and pro-illegals constantly stress that America is a nation of immigrants.

Well, I am getting a bit tired of hearing this theme that the both of them constantly recite. It sounds as if noone is born here and that our population is solely based on people coming into the country.

I am third or fourth generation American. I was born here, my parents were born here, my great grandparents were born here, and I am fairly certain that at least one of my great grandparents were born here (and that parent entered America LEGALLY-sorry about that you hardcore lib/Dems and Reconquistadors. So, by no means am I an immigrant and neither are my ancestors I have mentioned.

And let us remember, a LEGAL immigrant IS NOT the same as an ILLEGAL alien. For many of the children of illegal aliens who state that they were born in America and that they did nothing wrong, they and we must also remember that their parents crossed the border for the purpose of making sure that they would be born here, thereby abusing the law that a child that is born in America is automatically an American. This is the anchor-baby scheme. So, I cannot fully agree with their claim. While they did not choose to be born in America, that does not mean that their birth in America was done (by their parents) with honest and LEGAL intentions in mind.

Indeed, if I tried to pull a stunt like this in any part of Central or South America, I would be arrested and deported for violation of immigration laws. And that would be MY fault because I chose to break the laws of those countries.

The False Dervish on May 1, 2006 at 3:08 PM

As someone else already said, “How many rights can someone who is here ILLEGALLY demand???”

NRA4Freedom on May 1, 2006 at 4:13 PM

These demonstrations are obviously aimed at intimidating our pols into supporting amnesty. I hope everyone who puts messages on this blog, as well as anyone interested in the future of this country, sends at least an email to each of his/her House representatives and senators making it clear that they will lose our votes by supporting amnesty.

We’re literally in a war for control of the country started by invaders from the south. If we can’t stop it now, we won’t be able to stop it later. PLEASE write your representatives!

Orcaswa is dead on and couldn’t have made it any simpler. Writing our representatives to remind them WHO they represent (not business, lobbyists, themselves, but US!!) is the only real power we have. Use that power often.

It’s time for a major change. If the current crop of pandering politicians won’t enforce our immigration laws and seal our borders, then we need to boot them out and find someone that will. That includes both Republicans and Democrats That have obviously decided to pander to the lunatic fringe and ingnore the majority of Americans.

rplat on May 1, 2006 at 11:24 PM

It would appear that the political elite in Washington have forgotten whom they are to serve, and we are to just accept the 12 to 20 million illegals.

However I have another idea, if Mexico is unwilling to work towards protecting our borders (indeed, they seem to encourage the crossings as a method of propping up their economy), then I think we as Americans are entitled to 12 to 20% of the Mexican land area as compensation.

Seems fair doesn’t it?

Highplains on May 1, 2006 at 11:37 PM

Excellent points all. HOpefully this will spur us all on to end FREE MOVEMENT OF CAPITAL in addition to FREE MOVEMENT OF LABOR around the world. Pat BUchanan has it right about this issue. Free Trade is baloney. This is the result.

I can’t believe how the media has got people hoodwinked over that stupid excuse for an “Anthem.” I’m glad at least the president got this one right: sing it in English! (then you can’t hide your anti-american lyric-changing)

Jezla on May 2, 2006 at 1:30 AM

Best protest sign:
IF MEXICO IS SO GREAT, WHY ARE YOU HERE?
He of course had to run fast.

Oh Jose can you see by the dawns early light that the boycott only angered those who came here the legal way.
Through the flag waving and screaming that united we’ll stay.

rocky on May 2, 2006 at 7:10 AM

These protests and demands by illegal immigrants has completely stripped away any sympathy I’ve had for them! If they want to come here, legally, and work then great! But don’t come here breaking the law and demand privileges that others have had to work hard for!

I think there’s been a huge miscalculation on their part, and they’ll see dwindling support as a result of their audacity.

flipflop on May 2, 2006 at 8:07 AM

The leftist media is reporting numbers that are far too high and the effect was negligible. The American people will not give in to mob rule. That gaggle of criminals can march until their feet fall off but it will make no difference. Deport all illegal foreign nationals and seal our borders . . . now.

rplat on May 2, 2006 at 9:14 AM

Most of the jobs illegals do – I’ve done in my youth. I’ve picked crops, worked on yards, worked in constuction, did housecleaning, dug ditches, and spent many a backbreaking day in brickyards and lumber supply stores – stocked grocery store shelves and worked the local drive-in, did tickets at the gate, ran the movie, worked the snack-bar, cleaned the lot after everyone left then changed the sign if a new movie was upcoming next day… and through it all, I liked the money at 50 cents an hour on average. The jobs bought my first car and paid for many a date-night on the town.

The significance was (and still is) that these are entry level jobs that lead to better ones. I’m still in a 40+ year long job in international satellite that pays very well. So spare me the line, “Jobs American’s won’t do.” We’ve done them well, and would still do them, if they were offered to Americans at a decent starting wage. Spare me too that American’s can’t take the rough jobs… many of us did, with no complaints from the employers. The problem today is different – Mexican thugs lean on those who dare to take “their jobs.” Too many have faced gangs with knives and guns after work.

MM – you’ve outdone yourself… keep it up. We really love Hot Air!
