Very cool and fun Vent today, Michelle. Loved the bloopers, but am absolutely horrified by the Backstreet Boys video!

Keep the good stuff coming!

jaleach on April 28, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Are those frogs on your slippers?

sponginghouse on April 28, 2006 at 3:18 PM

You are correct, Internet video is here to stay. With bandwidth speeds going up and prices going down, video is finally at home on the Internet.

JB on April 28, 2006 at 3:25 PM

Phew! I thought I was going to have to make it thru the whole day without a new Vent. I’m already hooked on this site. Keep up the great work.

Go RBNY on April 28, 2006 at 3:26 PM

Dont have the talent to produce a decent video. But I am looking forward to others. This should be a gas. I remember on Rush’s old tv show, he had views send in clips and some of them were awesome. Good luck MM and all the hotair staff.
Best Regards.

Goodbye or Good Riddance to comrade Katie? Nice vent, and please practice your fly fishing..

Wade on April 28, 2006 at 3:28 PM

Michelle, this place is going through the roof. Way to get in front of the curve!

Pablo on April 28, 2006 at 3:35 PM

You are to much. One second you are battling global jihadist and domestic extreemist…and the next, relaxing in your sofa and pink fuzzy slippers! LOL Now that is what I call entertaining news. Awesome episode today.

Now I gota go home and figure out how to convince my wife we “need” a video camera…I certainly don’t want to be left behind the new online video revolution!

Josue on April 28, 2006 at 3:37 PM

Hey! Did you steal my slippers? I can’t find them anywhere. ;(

Any farewell I could whip up for Katie wouldn’t be suitable for viewing.

pistolero on April 28, 2006 at 3:40 PM

Not frogs. Care Bears! Wish Bear to be exact.

Michelle on April 28, 2006 at 3:46 PM

I agree with my fellow commentors, Michelle. This was a fun video. It will be great to see what the contestants come up with.

You made a very important point that the MSM no longer has the stanglehold on media information and I do not feel sorry for them in the slightest.

We are quite fortunate that you are in the forefront of vlogging! And this first week went quite well, and your site will only get better and better. NO WORRIES!!!! :-D

BTW-nice sofa!

Michelle,

thank you for the effort you make every day as a mom, a wife, a citizen and a journalist.

as an independent conservative from the mid-south, your work with your columns, your books and your webpage touch me deeply. we’re in the fight of our lives and the entire history of western civlization depends on it. The apathy of the populace is scary.

if only rummy were w, we might have a chance on immigration. if, if, if a frog had wings, he wouldn’t bump his butt a’hopping.

anyhoo, i’m proud of you for having backbone, especially in light of the cowardice of the “progressive left” as illustrated by your hate mail.

and you are way dreamier than a gal has a right to be. :)

rock on,

Wonderful vent today! And a great first week! You have hit on alot of subjects this week, some of which, or at least one of which, were hard. (United 93). I am glad to see you wrap up the week with relaxed humor. This site is gonna hit it big.

I have not the talent nor the creativity to do your Katie Curic goodbye thing, I wish I did. But I will look forward to the submissions, I bet there will be some good ones.

Hmmm, by brother has a vidcam….and alot of talent….the ideas are brewing…see ya all later!

MalkinFan on April 28, 2006 at 4:59 PM

OMG, I just reviewed the vent, and I realized what the CBS emblem so looked like….The all knowing eye in Mordor. Sauron, in The Lord of the Rings. Haha! I do not know if that was on purpose, but if so, rather fitting!

MalkinFan on April 28, 2006 at 5:06 PM

All I can say is that everything would be fine if only Michelle would leave her husband for me, but alas, poor me, I guess i’ll have to go to the Diner to drown my sorrows in a cup of coffie and smoke a cigeratte or two, or or half a pack; but I forgot I live in N.J. O damm I will have to walk out side to smoke at least 25 ft. from the door. I’ve got the Blue State blues again…

birdman on April 28, 2006 at 5:10 PM

The rising speed of internet technology is reminding of the old 80s series Max Headroom.
Live & Direct from Network 23…

MalkinFan, I saw the Sauron eye too then said to myself ‘Nah… not possible.’

allie on April 28, 2006 at 5:15 PM

What is this anyway? A political site with a daily centerfold? Granted, it’s a sight for sordid eyes–but enough. It’s hotair (a divine wind), not the fox channel.

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on April 28, 2006 at 5:15 PM

The Sauronic appearance of the C-BS eye is intentional. Because CBS is evil.

Bryan on April 28, 2006 at 5:17 PM

Great site, but that graphic at the top of the page looks a bit too much like Algore.

“HE BETRAYED THIS COUNTRY! HE PLAYED ON OUR FEE-ERS!”

How can I get that out of my head? gaah

pappy on April 28, 2006 at 5:33 PM

Wasn’t this person in that James bond movie “Goldfinger” Al Gore and her flying curcis. Hey Dr. Charles lighten up, pretty girls that are intelligent and right thinkers put A smile on my face. Would you like to see her wear A burka. Fox news has plenty of pretty girls thats one of the reasons everyone watches.

Michelle, congratulations on a stellar first week. I loved today’s vent and can’t wait for the next, much like every day this week : ) You rock.

America1st on April 28, 2006 at 7:34 PM

Okay! Its official! I am addicted to this site! Loved today’s Vent. How you find the energy for all these projects, Michelle, and still look gorgeous….its amazing! Gives us regular gals hope lol.

Laura

xanadu1015 on April 28, 2006 at 7:45 PM

The future of news is here…..and Michelle Malkin is
on the cutting edge of the information newscast business.

dec5 on April 28, 2006 at 8:18 PM

Pappy, the graphic reminded me more of howling howie; rolled up sleeves, waving the arm about in front of a camera and screaming like a banshee.

The CBS emblem needing Vizine! What a hoot!!

I recall seeing the Chinese kids (with Yao Ming jerseys) doing that video. That was hilarious.

Michelle is a natural doing Vent. Keep up the excellent work.

JammieWearingFool on April 28, 2006 at 9:19 PM

Essentialy, agreeing with most. The quality of the video was pretty darn good and the ability of an average user to slide in and make it work was nearly effortless.

This is going to work and work well.

flaco on April 28, 2006 at 9:45 PM

Michelle – I think one of the reasons your site will be so hugely successful is the obvious passion you bring to what you do. Even on the couch in slippers you outshine the average “talking head” on TV. The passion comes through in your writing, but even more so on video. Agree with your views, as many conservatives do, or strongly disagree, as many liberals do, you nevertheless inspire reactions in people because of that passion. I am sure I speak for many when I say thank you for giving voice to the issues many want to hear discussed but are studiously ignored by the MSM.

Hey, it’s Business Casual Friday on Vent! Or, as we like to call it, “Biz Cas Fri,” ’cause you gotta “abbrev” everything these days.

Unfortunately, my mind is just twisted enough that I was thinking of Weird Al’s parody of that Backstreet Boys song:

“Tell me why, I need another pet rock,
Tell me why, I got that ALF alarm clock,
Tell me why I bid on Shatner’s old toupee,
They had it on eBay”

Hmm, maybe my wife should do a dance routine to THAT version…heaven knows she spends enough time (and bucks) on eBay…

This site is poised to become one of the most consistently clever and throught-provoking sites out there. Kudos and other granola snacks to Michelle and the whole Hot Air team!

Erbo on April 29, 2006 at 12:12 AM

Enjoyed your vent today. A little bit of a problem though during the first load. The video is loaded in batches because I’m still using cable broadband service. It is only in replay that I can watch the clip without the annoying pauses. Wish that fiber optic broadband is already available in my area.

I believe this new media you have embarked on will be enhanced and really take hold if fiber optic broadband is made available to all. The chances however are not too good for those who resides in older communities, which is about 70 percent of the country, as major broadband incumbents are going to focus fiber deployments in newer and profitable communities. Waiting more than 10 years for fiber optic broadband in a lot of communities will not be uncommon. There is a real technology gap that needs to be fixed.

Hope you can advocate on behalf of us who are clamoring for the availability of fiber broadband.

TrueKatipunero on April 29, 2006 at 3:17 AM

Truekatipunero, If you start the vid and immediately hit “pause” you can watch the light grey status bar and see when the vid has fully loaded, at which time it will play uninterrupted.

Nothing more frustrating than video that keeps locking up in mid-word. ;-)

BTW, not necessarily true. Verizon is planning to build fiber service over their entire network and some of the first areas being built are those older, rundown areas with lousy, neglected old copper networks. It isn’t coming fast, but it is coming! (At least in Verizon areas)

Pablo on April 29, 2006 at 6:36 AM

Loved the bomb Iran Video, and I loved the fuzzy wish bear slippers. “Lets roll”.

birdman on April 29, 2006 at 11:27 AM

Hope you are right. However, I am still pessimistic as I am in Verizon’s service area forever and finally took cable’s triple play offer because I got tired of waiting for Verizon’s DSL to come.

I think municipalities should take it upon themselves to provide the infrastructure, the way they provide essential roadways, water, and wastewater. If treated as a municipal enterprise, it will kill the monopolies as they can allow all service providers to light the fiber and maybe, just maybe, earn a little bit to reduce the tax burden of their constituents.

TrueKatipunero on April 29, 2006 at 1:04 PM

Michelle,

Great Vent…. I love the slippers. Not so much the Backstreet boys.

What a great casual friday.

Keep up the great work.

I don’t have a video camera, but may i suggest to those of you who do, that you may want to consider using Patty Smyth’s “Goodbye To You” as a potential theme for the perkster Catie vid?

Great fisrt week Hot Air! Been here every nite. Keep on keepin on!!

Michelle,

Here’s a 2nd opinion from another Doc: While webcasting from the sofa may not seem “professional” to some, I think the approach is designed well to reach the segment of the population that is going to be critical to the future of this country in 10-15 yrs. The tone of conversation here may be very casual, but the content is certainly important and relevant to this country.
