Ropera………what is your point? Translation into different languages is fine for educational purposes in other countries, but in the US it should be in english. The current controversy is that it’s not only in spanish but the words have been changed to reflect an ungrateful, militant, greedy horde that is too used to a free handout.
BTW, if mexicans, who for the most part are of SPANISH descent have a problem, they should take it up with Spain.

The Star-Spangled Banner has already been translated into Spanish by the U.S.Bureau of Education in 1919 (several years before it became our National Anthem)

The release of “Nuestro Himno” was timed to coincide with the ongoing debate over illegal immigration to the United States. Well after having listened to the translation and read the lyrics all I have to say is that it is even more unsingable than the English version and is about as stirring as a wet dishrag. It is clear that this was purely a political stunt by some artists who favor amnesty for illegal aliens. I believe that this “act of solidarity” will backfire. Most people prefer their national anthem in their native language. That is why Canada has both an English and a French version of “Oh, Canada!” I see this Spanish version of the National Anthem as nothing more than a juvenile prank which adds nothing to the immigration debate. It is merely a minor hiccup on the political landscape and will wind up as a joke, much like former Vice-president Al Gore’s claims concerning the internet or Dennis Kucinich’s presidential campaign. I apologize if I don’t sound like a big Bush cheerleader, but I was never really fooled by his “plain talk”. I bet it was a lot more fun when he was flying high. With the coming of May 1, a couple of things to consider. I posted a comment on the UN and Iran, and I want to tie another link with that post and May 1. In Flight 93, Todd Beamer and other heroes came together and acted when the Government clearly failed, and neither could, any perhaps would, do anything. Similarly we have the equivalent of Todd Beamer on the border. He is personified by the Minutemen. They have come together in the clear failure of the Government to take effective action to secure the boarders. These men are not vigilantes, as they were so mistakenly labeled by Bush Administration officials. Futher, May 1 is International Communist Celebration day, and the message of these people is not that they want to sing the National Anthem or become Americans. Their message is “Get out of our country.” IOW, the Nation does not belong to the people born here or given citizenship here, it belongs to the invaders, and they don’t mind telling YOU! The failure of our Government to control the borders is now hitting us full in the face. And so far, the people who are putting themselves on the line, the Todd Beamers, the Minutemen, are being called “vigilantes” by an incompetent, clueless, uncaring, and corrupt Government. Merciful God help us all, we are in mortal danger.
