Spanish Version Of National Anthem: Why I Don't Think It's A Big Deal

A lot of people have taken issue with immigrants singing our national anthem in a different language. The other day, Bush said he thought the anthem should be sung in English. Even our old friend, Ted Kennedy, agreed.

[...] Rice, unfortunately, is speaking from pure ignorance on this matter. “Nuestro Himno” is not merely a straight translation of the “Star-Spangled Banner” into Spanish. It’s a politicized rewrite for the purposes of galvanizing pro-illegal alien amnesty forces. The song includes improvised rap from Latin pop stars trashing America’s immigration laws as “mean.” And the chant at the end brags: “We’re Latinos, baby!” [...]

[...] More op-eds coming out now, too. Mark Krikorian launches the newly redesigned NRO by explaining why comparisons between today’s rallies to those of the civil rights movement — especially MLK’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial — are off base. The proper analogy, says Krikorian, is to Vietnam protests. He also reports that Lamar Alexander is set to introduce a resolution in the Senate today affirming that the national anthem, as well the pledge of allegiance and various oaths, should be recited by immigrants in English. (Listen to a snippet of the new Spanish-language version here.) The resolution will presumably be offered in connection with Alexander’s “Strengthening American Citizenship Act.” [...]

Ropera.........what is your point? Translation into different languages is fine for educational purposes in other countries, but in the US it should be in english. The current controversy is that it's not only in spanish but the words have been changed to reflect an ungrateful, militant, greedy horde that is too used to a free handout.
BTW, if mexicans, who for the most part are of SPANISH descent have a problem, they should take it up with Spain.

The Star-Spangled Banner has already been translated into Spanish by the U.S.Bureau of Education in 1919 (several years before it became our National Anthem)

[...] Ahh, yes, everyone seems to be in a huge uproar about the translation of the United States National anthem into Spanish. The release of “Nuestro Himno” was timed to coincide with the ongoing debate over illegal immigration to the United States. Well after having listened to the translation and read the lyrics all I have to say is that it is even more unsingable than the English version and is about as stirring as a wet dishrag. It is clear that this was purely a political stunt by some artists who favor amnesty for illegal aliens. I believe that this “act of solidarity” will backfire. Most people prefer their national anthem in their native language. That is why Canada has both an English and a French version of “Oh, Canada!” I see this Spanish version of the National Anthem as nothing more than a juvenile prank which adds nothing to the immigration debate. It is merely a minor hiccup on the political landscape and will wind up as a joke, much like former Vice-president Al Gore’s claims concerning the internet or Dennis Kucinich’s presidential campaign.
Darwin -- You head on down, and I might try to meet up with you later. Don't forget your seal bat.

When do you plan on taking your important services to the Canadian border? Rumour is...that is where the terrorists come in.

I apologize if I don't sound like a big Bush cheerleader, but I was never really fooled by his "plain talk". I bet it was a lot more fun when he was flying high. Since I never really believe him, I don't feel duped. But what about those who did believe him? Do you ever feel you've been duped? And if not, how do you square that with your own quest for truth and integrity?

Here's the song they really ought to be singing---and, I suspect, are humming under their breath---

All for La Raza, (To the tune of La Cucaracha)

[Verse 1]
There you sit, your hands a-wringing,
If you’re broke now, don’t worry,
If it’s money you are after,
To America, amigo, hurry!

[Verse 2] (Both verses sung before chorus)
We will clog up many hospitals,
with bad diseases we might bring,
To the streets, we’re takin’ our fight,
Here’s the song the we will sing:

First Chorus

All for La Raza, the rest get nada.
Our vista is Reconquista.
All for La Raza, the rest get nada.
You gringos don’t understand-ah.

2nd Chorus
All for La Raza, the rest get nada.
We send our dough to old Mexico.
All for La Raza, the rest get nada.
You gringos don’t understand-oh.

Repeat Chorus until you get it.

All for La Raza, (To the tune of La Cucaracha)

[Verse 1]
There you sit, your hands a-wringing,
If you’re broke now, don’t worry,
If it’s money you are after,
To America, amigo, hurry!

[Verse 2] (Both verses sung before chorus)
We will clog up many hospitals,
with bad diseases we might bring,
To the streets, we’re takin’ our fight,
Here’s the song the we will sing:

First Chorus

All for La Raza, the rest get nada.
Our vista is Reconquista.
All for La Raza, the rest get nada.

THIS IS OUR ANTHEM...

In response to the "Nuestro Himno" illegal alien anthem nonsense, I thought it would be nice to celebrate the history of our national anthem--instead of rewriting it to pander to ethnic grievance-mongers who don't respect Amerian laws or traditions....

Many thanks to any immigrants who came here legally, learn english, our heritage and add to the overall well being of the United States. Your voices are extremely important. Please speak up. It not only let's others know that you disagree with their actions and words, but encourages others to pursue their dreams and hopes the right way.

With the coming of May 1, a couple of things to consider. I posted a comment on the UN and Iran, and I want to tie another link with that post and May 1. In Flight 93, Todd Beamer and other heroes came together and acted when the Government clearly failed, and neither could, any perhaps would, do anything. Similarly we have the equivalent of Todd Beamer on the border. He is personified by the Minutemen. They have come together in the clear failure of the Government to take effective action to secure the boarders. These men are not vigilantes, as they were so mistakenly labeled by Bush Administration officials. Futher, May 1 is International Communist Celebration day, and the message of these people is not that they want to sing the National Anthem or become Americans. Their message is "Get out of our country." IOW, the Nation does not belong to the people born here or given citizenship here, it belongs to the invaders, and they don't mind telling YOU! The failure of our Government to control the borders is now hitting us full in the face. And so far, the people who are putting themselves on the line, the Todd Beamers, the Minutemen, are being called "vigilantes" by an incompetent, clueless, uncaring, and corrupt Government. Merciful God help us all, we are in mortal danger.
