Spot on Jezla. The fact that these three groups are even giving this democracy thing a go is a huge deal. There is bad blood to spare and scores to be settled between these groups, and yet they’re trying to make their new government work. The fact that there are those who do not see this as anthing other than encouraging truly puzzles me.

I don’t agree with the statement above that democracy won’t work over there. The point is that the three groups are TRYING to work together and get a government going. I think the level of cooperation the fledgling government is showing has got the terrorists worried, and should be encouraging to us (if the MSM would ever report on it, that is).

The US is arrogant? I suppose some commenters here want the US to be weakened and vulnerable to domination by another country. Just like former SOS Albright said once (paraphrasing we can’t be the only superpower. I don’t see how promoting democracy makes the US arrogant. I suppose some commenters here think it was alright for Communism to spread throughout eastern Europe and not think of it as being arrogant. I think it’s arrogant to assume that people do not long to be free, do not want to be under the thumb of an oppressive dictator who shredded people who were his political enemies. Maybe some commenters here wish they lived under a totalitarian regime like Saddam Insane’s Iraq. Then they could enjoy the benefits of living in a non-arrogant country.

Zarqi knows he’s losing. They tried fighting us, it didn’t work, it only led to dead jihadis. They tried fighting the new Iraqi Army. Same results. They tried to export the war to Jordan, it didn’t work. They tried to start a civil war, it didn’t happen. They tried killing civilians but it led to (formerly simpathetic) tribes fighting back against them. Now the Sunni insurgents are fighting Al Qaeda and I read somewhere that Zarqi got “fired” for all of his above listed failures. Which begs the question: Who gives a crap what he says???

Liberals are simply upset because President Bush put into action the Clinton doctrine.
Whenever something catastrophic happens whether it is a natural disaster or even war liberals can be counted on to do one thing, demand a study. Liberals have conducted studies on everything from global warming, (the sun is getting hotter), to the mating habits of 3 toed green eyed tree frogs. What have they actually done? Well since the 1940’s when Roosevelt instituted all of his grand goverment programs. . . nothing. They have whined and griped about everything but they have been very limited in any action. It is conservatives who finally take action, normally in an attempt to shut up the liberals.
Social Security reform good example. We are plagued every election cycle by what a mess SS is in and how something must be done. Finally this president tried to do something and who stood in the door of the school, the Dems.
The libs need to just sit down and shut up on the war on terror, more appropiately named the war on Islamofascism. Once this global war is over come on back out begin your screeching once again about how wrong it was. Just don’t forget which country it is that allows you to act that way.

So mxmat your solution is to simply allow brutal dictators to rule countries with violence to quell violence.
My answer is to make these people act like human beings. Murder for any reason is not acceptable whether you try to rationalise it as a way to control people to inflict your belief system on them. We are not trying to make Islamic people act like the western world all we are trying to do is to get them to quit resorting to violence as an answer to any grievance they have. Whether it is cartoons, books, music, or religious symbols they only have one response. we have ignored this behavior and kicked it down the road for too long. Allowing this behavior, no matter if it is visited upon their own, or those with who they disagree must simply stop.
Sadly in todays culture where all of life’s problems can be solved in a 30 minute sitcom, most civillized peoples do not have the persistence to see this through to the end.
The ant hill has been kicked over and it is time to stop it now.

And perhaps this is the first video tape because Zarqawi (your spelling may vary) isn’t in Iraq any longer, or is so far removed from the “action” that he now has time for making home movies?

That’s what we’re seeing now. Shame on us.
