“If you believe the former Alaska governor is too guarded with the mainstream (or ‘lamestream,’ to use Palin’s term) media today, I would submit that Parker bears some of the blame for that. Her early and unprovoked attack cannot be underestimated, inasmuch as it also provided cover for anyone else who wanted to portray Palin as a lightweight.

“Parker’s columns allowed other critics (who previously may have been hesitant) to argue that even a respected female conservative columnist thinks she’s a joke. In terms of changing Palin’s future behavior — as well as changing the perceptions about her — Parker’s column acted more as a thermostat than a thermometer.”
